  • WHM vs. Maat report

Since I couldn't locate StarvingArtist's thread on how she beat Maat, I had to do this the hard way.

Win total: Maat: 2, Me: 1

First fight, I learnt that it's nearly impossible to defeat Maat physically. His stoneskin soaks up 400 damage and you'll get 0 tp for 8 hits or so. You also won't be able to do a thing vs his Protect IV (32 damage a hit with Arcana breaker, too ghetto to buy a Darksteel). Hexa X2 and he uses benediction, then he recasts stoneskin and you're screwed.

Second fight: Lesson learnt - hi-ether is SLOW. Don't touch this one even with a ten foot pole unless you like seeing yourself touch your bum for eight seconds while an old man kicks the crap out of you.

Third time: Target = heal over 4500+ damage.
According to hearsay, hi-potion healing counts, so maybe you can just bring 45 hi potions in and glug them all. but I didn't want to risk wasting money in case this was false.

Hume White Mage level 70, hp 913 mp 608 without support job.

    Equipment:
Eremite's rod (yes it's the level 28 lollypop), Druid rope, AF boots = 55% casting interruption down.
AF armor, Sandorian mantle (bought when Windurst was rank 1)
Full AF except weapon (don't bother with the holy breastplate, the MP is better). Star necklace (1 def, +3 chr, 15 hp to mp)
JSE ring + earring (important!), Demon ring, no other earring (inventory space)
    DEF 257 without protect.

    Items:
    10 Hi-potion, 12 Mulsum, 1 Vile Elixir, 11 Echo drops, Yagudo drink x3. Food = Steamed Crab.

Tactics: Protect+Shell+Aquaveil(don't forget this)+Blink+Reraise scroll. Rest to full mp. Ran right next to the geezer, cast Regen 3, glug Yagudo Drink and attacked. Maat did Dia II and Slow, which got absorbed by Blink (hence why I bothered casting blink - Dia 2 is something I wanted to avoid as long as possible), followed with silence (Echo drops). During this time, he hit me for about 100 damage per hit, and 200 on criticals. He cast Paralyze which was scary, but luckily I got off Paralyna without a single interruption.

When HP hit yellow, I used Cure III as he was about to hit me. JSE ring made me heal about 214 damage. The instant he said something and did a WS, I bust out Cure IV (427 hp). When MP hit about 350, I changed tactics to "Cure III, use mulsum, repeat".
When MP hit 50, quickly drank the Vile Elixir (bye bye 15k gil). Then Maat hit me for a critical (217 damage with Dia II on which he recast) and used Dragon kick (about 440 more) so I had to bust Benediction (657 hp). Maat's stoneskin wore off and I got 100 tp, so I had to use Starlight to get rid of it (Latent effects don't work if you have more than 100 tp and I NEEDED the JSE ring and earring effect). After that, MP hit 33 and I used hi-potions + mulsum while waiting for yagudo drink to restore mp, but then the geezer conceded.

Total healed = 4237 hp, + Vile Elixir + 3 hi potions. (Divine Seal not used) + auto regen + about 400 Regen III.

Leftovers = 7 hi potions, 6 mulsum, 1 yagudo drink, 10 echo drops.

Conclusion: This fight is a huge waste of money. It is also ridiculously unfair because he has about double the HP you do, does three times your damage and you need at least 1080 mp to heal 4500 hp with cure spells (1080 mp which whm does NOT have). If you think it's fair, just try doing it without any $$$$ medicine.

Just cross your fingers and pray he doesn't use Asuran Fists (8 hits, lots of TP and damage, another WS coming your way soon) and uses something stupid like Combo. If you use Astral rings at the start of the battle, be sure to switch out to something like demon/phalanx rings after you use the 25 mp. Don't be afraid of Maat's white magic - he does Banish 3, Banishga 3 and Holy, but none of these should do more than 200 damage (you have high magic resist). It may have been a good idea to use a physical earring in the battle for more hp.

Also, StarvingArtist mentioned how she was soloing Gob Alchemists in Terrigan for testimonies (Decent Challenge at level 70) and I can't really recommend it. Perhaps she was using better equipment, but I had trouble with goblin stoneskin not giving you TP and eventually the only way I could kill them quickly was to cast Stoneskin+Barfira and wait for them to blow themselves up. (Hexa does only 1/7 of their life in damage with arcana... maybe you need a darksteel maul ). Drop rate is very high though.

Edit: Oh, in case you're wondering what all those items do or how to get them -

Hi potion - restores 100 hp, water crystal, distilled water, molbol tentacle, sageX2 (medium level Alchemy) or buy at AH.

Vile Elixir - dropped by HNM, Rare item (only can have one). Alchemy recipe too high level to be useful (requires hard to get ingredients). Instant restoration of 25% hp and mp, costs an arm and a leg, but not as much as +1 (which restores 50% of both). Just buy it from the AH.

Mulsum: Japanese name Aqua Mulsum - restores 10 mp per use, but it STACKS (and doesn't take 8 seconds to use). Get 5 from a quest in Windurst. Cooking skill 55, Ice crystal + Distilled water + Honey, + Grape Juice. Grape juice is 4 sandorian grapes and one dark crystal (go Xarcabard hunting)

Yagudo drink - dark crystal, distilled water, yagudo cherry, buburimu grape or something. Restures 2mp/3sec for 3 mins.

Steamed Crab - Vit up 4, defense up 24.5% or something. Cheaper than Fish Chiefkabob. HQ Boiled Crab.
I believe most sigs are like the people they represent - useless, loud and obnoxious.

Thanks for this information, I think it'll prove very useful once I hit that level.

    It really does sound like a ridiculous money waste, though. -_-;

Scared? You bet... I already blew 210k gil on Raise 3 and I had 30k gil left... buying the Vile Elixir (NOT a good time to do genkai5, btw. Fenrir is eating all the Vile Elixirs and the price is going hellishly high. This is why I wanted to do Genkai 5 ASAP instead of waiting to get money) left me with 15k gil and when I used it my wallet hurt more than Maat did.

My hands were jittery throughout the whole fight... lose and you get NUTS. Too bad, there goes 15k Vile Elixir + all that time I spent hitting dark elementals, goblins and Ochus for medicine. All wasted because you get zip, nada back. The second time I lost I nearly lost my temper and was considering throwing my mouse at the computer screen and writing flame mail to Square-Enix. I have NO idea how you had the patience/perserverance to do this so many times, StarvingArtist. (considering that certain other jobs don't even need medicine, hint: Thief, Summoner, Black Mage)

At one point my I selected Cure 4 manually by habit and spent 5 scary-as-heck seconds hitting the special "Cure4 me" Maat macro I made wondering why the heck I wasn't casting anything. And you'll also be going "oh please don't let me disconnect now".

If you're really desperate I suggest trying the high potion method - if that really works, all this will blow is a 25k hole in your wallet and requires no skill (but hi-po price is also going up...).

I suggest the Medicine (JSE) Ring and Earring (both very cheap) over Astrals after you use the mp from the Astrals. The earring reduces damage by 30% as long as your hp is yellow and you do not have 100% tp (possibly saving you from a soryuu(dragon kick)/kuumei(howling fist)/asura which are all instant almost half-life gone cheese - luckily, I don't think he does asura vs whm). I was also using demon ring despite the -30 light resist because it gives defense and hp and is cheap. Total defense after food + protect was 370+.
I believe most sigs are like the people they represent - useless, loud and obnoxious.

          thanks for the information.

I have try 11 times and fail it all

I was told potion doesnt count so i never use Hi potion. Only used Hi-Ether but god it takes forever to use. I manage to pull off about 4616 heals one of the time and didnt win..Multiple times heal for 4500+.

With the information above, it seem like the number we need is 5000. not 4000 as was said by many people.

          4237+228(vile)+300(hi potion)+360(regen i counted one time i think) =5100ish...

did you do anything such as Dia or Banish? I was told need to do 1 enfeebling and 1 divine magic. which i wasnt sure was true or not and need to get this confirm.

What we know now is requirement isnt 4000. as I have done over 4000 atleast 5 times...

          5000+, potion counts.

can anyone confirm enfeebling and divine? I did one time dia until his blink is gone, then Dia and Banish andheal for roughly 4100 but didnt win...

No, I didn't use any enfeebling spells or banish. I heard that rumor too, but I decided to conserve mp for Cure.

Don't use Hi Ether. Use Aqua Mulsum or normal ether - you can drink hi potion and mulsum one after each other and it is much safer. I'm convinced that what really made the difference is the vile elixir but it has gone from 15k to 70k in the last few days on my server...

I suspect that after you heal over 4500+, you have to wait a short while before Maat concedes. I'm pretty sure it isn't 4000 because the first time I fought him I healed at least 4100 damage. Or it could just be very random.

I healed at least 4100 damage
Yea that made me think of it. Please give us as much information as possible, i like to be prepared when i take out my hammer vs this sucker.

No, Maat isn't undead yet as far as I know of - you're supposed to cure a random amount of damage to yourself.

Defeating him is nearly impossible because of stoneskin/benediction (and you can't do anything against stoneskin except hit him 8 times until it wears off) - by the time you take off the second stoneskin, ten minutes would have passed and you would lose.

Taru can do this fairly easily as long as he doesn't pull off Asuran or Rangeki. The main problem here is MP, not HP, since Cure makes MP = HP. (casting interruptions suck though)

Just finished it on Ifrit server. Went 1 win, 1 loss on it, with the first one mostly being a get the butterflies out mission.

Level 68 white mage, 168 club skill, 163 evasion (Yeah I know it's not maxed, it was 165 after the fight)

                      Primary - Eremit's Wand
                      Secondary - Holy Shield
                      Ammo - Phantom Tathlum
                      Head - none
                      Body - Vermillion Cloak
                      Ear 1&2 - Batwing Earrings
                      Ring 1&2 - Electrum Rings
                      Hands - AF
                      Feet - AF
                      Legs - AF
                      Waist - Druids Rope

                      8x Hi-Potion
                      36x Mulsum
                      1x Vile Elixir
                      1x Vile Elixir+1
                      1x Fish ChiefKabob
                      4x Yagudo Drinks
                      12x Echo Drops
                      12x Blindness potion

                      Pre-cast:
                      Shellra IV
                      Protectra IV
                      Aquaveil
                      Blink
During the first fight, I only used Mulsum so I could get a feel for what kinda pain he dishes out. I died because Maat did a Banishga III for 194, followed by a 107 dmg hit, and then a quick 295 combo, while this was happening I made the crucial mistake of attempting to recast aquaveil (A long longggg cast time)

The 2nd fight was fairly straightforward. I used a Yagudo drink, buffed myself, and charged Maat. I already had made 2 crucial errors (Forgot to blind myself for batwing earrings and I forgot to eat Fish Chiefkabob). Basically the entire fight consisted of me casting Cure III on myself while drinking mulsum during Spell refresh time. Occasionally he would do a WS and I would hit Cure IV. By the end of the fight I ended up using:

                      22x Mulsum
                      1x Vile Elixir
                      1x Vile Elixir+1
                      1x Echo drops
                      3x Yagudo Drink

I can categorically confirm that you don't really need to hurt him much (He was never below 95% thanks to my pathetic club skill and eremite wand combination). I also forgot to use Benediction during the fight but honestly I never wanted to get my health very low to consider using it. Maat can do over 400 dmg with his combo+ attack so be careful.

I just beat Maat on my first try as a lvl70 taru whm. It seemed quite easy. I had 885 MP to start.

After entering the BC I did Protect, Shell, Blink, Stoneskin, Aquaveil, Haste, popped a Yagudo Drink and rested to full MP. I ate a Steamed Crab, and rushed Maat. Casted Dia on him in case you needed to do an enfeeble to win. He casted Dia2 on me right away which I Erased while my Stoneskin was still up. I didn't bother erasing any later dias.

I mainly did Cure3, drank a Mulsum, Cure3, Mulsum, etc.

After burning 85MP I swapped my Asklepios and leather shield for Earth Staff, Bat Earring for Medicine Earring, and 2 Astral Rings for Phalanx and Medicine Rings. At this point I drank a HI-Potion to conserve a little MP. I did a divine seal at some point cause I heard that might have been a requirement.

I popped another Yag Drink every time one went out. Also, Maat would periodically Silence me. Used 3 Echo Drops total for that.

After a while of this Maat decided to Paralyze me. This caused some problems cause my Paralyna was paralyzed 4 times in a row. I decided to do Benediction at this point and Maat conceded defeat.

I finished with about 350MP left. Total consumables used: 20 Mulsum, 3 Echo Drops, 1 Steamed Crab, 1 Hi-Potion. I had a Vile Elixir and Vile Elixir +1 just in case but it wasn't needed. With the Earth Staff and Medicine Earring he was hitting me for about 45-90 hp each hit. His dragon kick did about 110 and Banishga3 about 190.

So overall quite easy if you're prepared. Just watch out for Paralyze. Total HP healed was a little over 4600. I think the fight lasted about 8mins but much of that was resting up at the start. Since the earth staff and phalanx ring were borrowed, my total bill was about 20k gil.

I survived my first meeting with Maat today, so I thought I should share my thoughts on the win conditions. I'll try not to be too redundant in what I talk about.

739 MP to start as a lvl 70. Food was Fish Chiefkabob for 384 defense with Protect IV. He averaged 100 damage on me each hit, with 200 on criticals. I got lucky with the WS', Spinning Attack and One Inch Punch. He threw some Banishga IIIs at me, but they hurt less than his criticals.

I don't think you even need to have your weapon out to win. I did exactly 22 damage to Maat, +whatever damage Dia did. I built 100 tp on him from getting hit, and used it for a Moonlight. We already know that it's not a WHM's job to beat Maat literally, but I'm pretty sure you probably don't even need to hit him.

I didn't use Benediction. The need for it never came up, I finished with a little over 100 mp.

I did use Divine Seal, but I used it on a Cure III rather than a Cure IV, because I didn't feel safe letting him get me so low.

I also threw Dia and Flash at him, in case the requirement for using all 4 of our magic skills was true.

Maat didn't use his 2 hour seeing as how I only did 22 damage.

4046 HP cured from spells. However, when I neared 100 mp, I switched to Hi-Potions exclusively. I used 7 Hi-Potions, and Maat conceded.

Clear time: 7 minutes 35 seconds.

Grats on winning. For future whms attempting this I would recommend not attacking him at all. Doing so will net you 1 or 2 Moonlights and allow Maat to build his TP faster, increasing the possibility of an Asuran Fists owning you.

                              Linaaa (@Lv67): 1 --- Maat: 0

I remember using 2 yag drinks, about 6 or 8 Mulsum, a HQ boiled crab for a lot of def up.
A very low level club with -20% casting interruption.
Vermillion cloak helped to get more MP of course. If you don't have one, get a friend to borrow you one.

I barely made it with about 160HP and 20MP left. I was wondering when he would give up.

Casted mostly Cure III's. I think I used divine seal with a Cure IV or V, don't remember exactly.
Use star light ws to get some more MP, yes you need it, don't Hexastrike for fun. ^^

Fight lasted about 14 mins then Maat crashed down and begged not to finish him off. Well not really, but I bet he was scared!

Most importantly, stay calm & remember Maat is weak!

btw, don't bother casting stuff before you enter the BC, it all resets when you enter. ^-^
just cast it all when you entered and heal MP. (also part of the 14min fight).

Sorry that I didn't make any screenshots of equip. I regret it now.

I really enjoyed this fight, is there anyway to do it again for fun?
