  • Macros For The WHM.. Or Any Mage I Guess

First off i dont assume to know more about macros than anyone.. Im posting this because maybe if someone is having trouble with cluttery macros they will read this and have an easier time.. Im not trying to sound like i know what im talking about.. just posting this to maybe be helpful to someone. even if its one person..

Well i got my taru WHM/BLM to lvl 21. And i got regen. So my macro set up of a cure 1 for each member. a cure 2 for each member. My divine seal, stats, and cute taru emotes etc etc.. I didnt have room for a regen macro.. I could have taken a cure off maybe. But a row of Cure 1 and a row of Regen might have been bad if i needed a cure 2.. or the other way around. Then i thought well maybe set some up on the next macro set. Changing is tedious in the heat of battle. So i thought of this..

My normal macro set up from CNRL 1-6

    /p (Cure) >>> <p0>!
    /ma "Cure" <p0>

And so on and so forth up to 6. And my next line was the same but with cure 2. Very cluttery.

So i thought maybe if i could just have the CNTRL 1-6 set up to target the seperate party members, and have my alt 1-0 set up to cast different spells.. sounded like a big room saver so i tried it out. works fine. example.

    CNTRL 1
    /target <p0>

    CNTRL2
    /target <p1>
    etc etc.

    ALT 1
    /ma "Cure" <t>
    /p (Cure) >>> <t>!

    ALT 2
    /ma "Cure 2" <t>
    /p (Cure) 2 >>> <t>!

    ALT 3
    /ma "Regen" <t>
    /p (Regen) >>> <t>!

So you would just use your CNTRL 1-6 to change who you are targeting in your party, and your ALTs to select the spell and use the <t> to cast on the targeted person... I hope im being clear with all that.

And once again if that seems like obvious information.. I just knew alot of people who had their macros set up the way i did.. Only trying to help. My first character was melee so.. Not used to the mage macros.. =P

Hehe yes, just use your F1-6 keys...

      my normal Setup is

Alt 1-6 "Cure III" <p0> to <p5> (switching to Cure 2 depends on oponent)

      Alt 7 "Cure VI" <t>

Alt 8-9 Barpoisona/paralyna (depends on oponent, changing it depending on monster)

      Alt 0 i forgot

      CTRL 1 - "Regen II" <t>

CTRL 2-7 "all kind of debuffs" <pt>

      CTRL 8 Benediction

      CTRL 9 Devine Seal

      CTRL 0 i forgot...

I'm quite happy and fast with the F-keys.

        Hence, my layout is..

        CTRL+1
        /ma "Cure" <t>

        CTRL+2
        /ma "Cure II" <t>

        CTRL+3
        /ma "Cure III" <t>

        CTRL+4
        /ma "Cure IV" <t>

        CTRL+5
        /ma "Regen II" <t>

        CTRL+6
        /ma "Regen" <t>

        CTRL+7
        /ma "Poisona" <t>

        CTRL+8
        /ja "Divine Seal" <me>

        CTRL+9
        /ma "Protectra III" <me>

        CTRL+0
        /ma "Haste" <t>

The ALT row are my debuffs. I change some of the macros depending on opponent. E.g., I'll change Poisona to Paralyna if fighting in Eldieme.

Gratz zu 50 Miria, hast mich überholt

          @Topic

I dont like the F-Keys a lot, i just use them as a emergency. I normaly have the main tank targeted and have my thumb on the Alt Key while 2 to 4 Finger are on the different heal buttons. Normaly you have one to two people who get agro frequently so i just need to press these 2 buttons now and then while looking on the HP Bar. Its more comfortable to me, but its a question of "feelgood". If you like it and you can do your job, its the perfect setup.

I don't like the instant commit nature of using <t> for healing macros, so I use:

            /ma "Cure II" <stpc>
            /ma "Cure III" <stpc>
            /ma "Cure IV" <stpc>
            /ma "Curaga" <stpc>
            /ma "Regen" <stpc>
            /ma "Regen II" <stpc>

I do use <t> for offensive/enfeebling magic though:

            /ma "Flash" <t>
            /ma "Slow" <t>
            /ma "Paralyze" <t>
            /ma "Silence" <t>

Everything else I pretty much cast from the Magic menu.

I switched several weeks ago from the p0-5 macros to a full set of <stpc> macros, and I'm glad I did. It does take 2 extra keystrokes (F-key and Enter), but it's worth it in my opinion. It saves space, it works while you're in Attack mode (<t> won't), it lets you press Escape if you choose the wrong spell or target, etc. However, I don't think it's necessary until the 20s, since the macro bar probably isn't very full until then.

I use <bt> instead of <t> in most of my enfeebling/offensive spells. For a couple I use <stnpc> so I can confirm them with Enter. Using <bt> means you don't have to worry about tabbing to the right target in densely-populated areas. Plus, when there's no battle target yet, <bt> acts exactly like <t>, so the macros work fine when soloing.

                  what is <stpc>, <bp> <stnpc> ???
For a full explanation, you should search the forums. But basically:

<bt> = Battle Target. The macro action will target the enemy that is currently engaged by you or your party (red name). Doesn't matter what else you have targeted when you hit the macro.

<stpc> = Selected Target - Player Character. The macro will display a blue arrow on screen that will target only players in your current view as your press Tab. It will not target any enemy or other NPC. It will target any player in view, not just players in your party. Often used with the F-Keys 1-6, which will cause the blue arrow to jump to the appropriate party member (F1 = you). After the macro executes, your target will switch back to what it was previously (like the current enemy or another player). Also can be used as a confirmation step for self-only actions instead of <me> or <p0>, like /ja "Benediction" <stpc> will require you to press Enter before Bene is activated.

<stnpc> = Selected Target - Non Player Character. The macro will display a blue arrow on screen that will target only enemies and other NPCs in your current view as you press Tab. It will not target any player character. Often used for Sleep or other actions that may require targets that are not currently the battle target (links/adds). Obviously useful when fighting multiple enemies.
