  • Things to do if you're the only healer.

This is what i do when i found that no one else can debuff.

    INC
    Regen Tank
    Paralyze
    Slow
    Start the curing process....
Slotting in para/slow if it fails in step3/4.
Recast regen should it went off in mid battle.
rest up whenever possible during battle.

usually i'll end up using more than half - 3/4 of my mana after a abattle and the whole group will be waitingfor my mana b4 they pull again. Not to speak of having to cure them of their wounnds b4 next fight. which means more mana is needed...

Is my method ok in this type of grouping? or is debuffing unneccessary? coz sometimes it'll resist and i'll have to spend some tries retrying it and wasting manain the process... but i found that i need to heal a lot less if these 2 debuffers does landed on monster hence = me lesser aggro.

Note: I'm sure someone is going to disagree with this. So take my advice at face value.

As a WHM/BLM, I typically Regen as you do as needed. But if a BLM isn't around, I usually land Bio first. This theoretically lowers resistances. Then I hit Paralyze, and Blind, intermixing heal and Regen depending on who's getting hit. If there monster is still at 75%, I'll hit it with slow. Usually by that point I'll just regen mana.

I'm also a WHM who doesn't keep everyone in the white at all times. And sometimes I use raw numbers instead. Just because they have 600hps, doesn't mean they need all 600. If there's 5 tanks, and they average at 400, the person who has 600 can regen the last 200 (with Regen) after the battle.

I'm sure there's criticism to that point. Have at it.

That sounds like a pretty good plan Kopitiam, and I don't think there's much else you can do. The downtime will be big. That's why I agree with Issaac, it's just not worth it to have only one mage who can heal and debuff.

But if you do find yourself in that situation... The debuffing is important, but don't go overboard. Personally I would not use Bio, because it has a big MP cost, does low damage, and only lowers ATK stat... and its effectiveness is based on Darkness magic skill. That's halved for WHM/BLMs. Dia might be a better choice, get the monster's defense down and perhaps end the fight a bit quicker. Fast cast and low MP use.

Food can help too... Mushrooms for more MP, MND, and MP regen while resting, and juice for MP refresh when needed.

And party config and target monsters makes a big difference... You need a competent tank and good damagers. Make sure they are using the best skillchain possible. If you have to cure more than one person often, if the fights take too long, or you're fighting monsters with AOE damage abilities, you're just asking for frustration.

At higher levels its suicide for a WHM to enfeeble, cure status and be the main healer - way too much hate buildup.
Like Issaac said, I wouldnt leave town in the first place.

Not necessarily true. With the exception of flash no enfeebling draws any kind of signifacnt hate. Dia/Dia2 are the first spell i cast every fight, followed by regen / haste, then cures and regen 3 again if needed. A good white mage can even DS+cure4 with a good PLD tanking -- the mob wont even look at you. All the while using poisona, paralyna, and silena -- you should definately prioritze but it by no means is a death sentence.

I've been in a couple truly bad parties where I was by default the only healer and doing most or all of the debuffing (thanks to neglectful meleeing RDMs mainly). You do draw extra hate by enfeebling, so if you're in that situation you've got to get a feel for how much enfeeb is safe and MP efficient. And without backup healing the long cast times for Regen I/II can create problems. It's just a tough situation to be in, much less to be in and still try to conserve MP to lower downtime. It's not necessarily suicide, but like I said, it's not a good situation. It is best to avoid it.

I don't know the original poster's level, but I'm assuming late 20s/early 30s. That's a far sight different than at level 41+. I won't party without a backup healer and someone to do MP regen, because it's just not worth it. At lower levels it's easier to pull off if you're forced to.

                  Yes agre Xeno ^^

                  My best party was

                  white
                  paladin
                  black
                  black
                  black
                  black

I lvled my subjob and we nuked the hell out of the beasts (mainly gobs in valkum at entrance hidden beach). The exp was awesome and the goblins never turned around.

I lvl with paladins mainly, i get bad fealings with a warrior as main tank. Not that warriors cant fullfil the job. But the equipment has to be up to date. Where a paladin can conceal (dunno if this is the right word) some bad equipemnt due to his heals.

                  Normal fighting situation:
Puller is running out and get something. Hes coming back and i press his F Key so i know when he is near. Once i am able to target him i switch target to main tank and cast regen. When im ready with regen its mostly the sec where the main tank use provokate on the mob. After that i use Dia/paralyse/blind and silence - where silence is first if it is needed (if and only if i am needed as enfeebler). Normaly, in this time the paladin is about to through his first Cure 3 on himself. now i cast regen on the puller so he will be full hp for next fight and concentrate my healings on the paladin. If we fight a mob with bad bad spezial attacks i "spam" Cure 2 to hold him as high as possible where i always take a look if hes not healing himself for agro (interrrupt heal if needed). If it is a normal mob with decent spezial attacks i just sit down, regen some mp wit my mushrooms and stand up now and then to cast Cure 3.

But, without supporter, even the mana efficient tactic will lead you into a lot of downtime.

This is my typical day. Btw, I have a BRD, so I'm getting some nice MP regen.

                    Regen on tank
                    Slow
                    Paralyze
                    Dia
Blind (stopped using if it the PLD has Flash)
                    Regen on puller
Cure 1s many many many times over

Then I pineapple juice it when it gets bad/slow.
