Erase is more like a "status" spell, with Apollo/Light staff, Vermillion/Royal Cloak, Holy/Divine Shield, just that out of these stuff, Erase is the most useless one. >.> Just now, a WHM casted Erase on a member who got cursed by a ghost, nothing happened, then I Cursna and the curse is gone. Maybe it only works with those which doesn't have a -na for it.

Actually:
Having played both a tank and a damage dealer, i can say that erase is desperatly helpful. The problem is that this usefulness only manifests in a few situations. Like....
Defense Down: Any tank who'se ever fought dhalmels wimpers at this ability. The defense down trait HALVES your defence. Nothing quite like a frontline tank taking hits like a WHM. Def down will make your tanks 1-shottable by almost any good attack skill, and will make them almost impossible to keep alive in normal melee
Attack Down: Similar to above, this ability cuts your parties ATK by a TREMENDOUS amount. Say goodbye to chaining anything if you'er party has been afflicted by ATK down.
Is erase neccecary? probably not. But it is the only cure for some of the WORST status effects in the game. Be nice to your tanks. Buy erase =)

It sounds like a luxuary and not a requirement to finding parties.
Would be nice to have if a mage had rasp, burn , etc and wanted to heal and didn't have a rdm or brd to refresh mp. Or how I feel anyways.

I am one of those types of people that play MMORPGS, or any RPGS for that matter, that enjoys knowing every little secret, getting every last item possible, and obtaining the most status and highest of accomplishments, etc., etc.
Therefore, I will get Erase somewhere down the line of my White Mages existence.
Nevertheless, I personally haven't really seen any reason to want the spell. I have't come across any major status effects that seem deterimental to my party, save, that which was preposted earlier by an individual who claimed there are status ailments like a def-down that halves your defense, etc.
Yet, when someone is poisoned in my PT, I usually never cure them until after the battle is over. Because, if I use time and mana curing every single poisoned person in my group, that would be an amount of time I find useful spent doing something else.
So really, I only see a need to get Erase and covet it greatly if there are really an intense amount of moments where status effects can be extremely detrimental to my PT and its victory/xp chaining/down time.
Get it if you have the money. Go to a BCNM and get it. Otherwise, I think a WHM will still do exceptionally well without Erase. Ultimately, its a "luxury" spell.

Goodbye everyone.

Why does it cost so much if it is not that great? Seriously...
All of the really expensive spells I can think of (Dispel, Valor Minuet IV, Flare, etc.) are very far from useless. In fact, they are almost job defining spells.
In my opinion, it is well worth the BCNM battle. I use it all the time to cure atk down and defense down on my frontliners and they love me for it.
What makes Erase so expensive? I got it on my first BCNM40 fight. Is it really rare to get as a reward? Or is it really more useful than most of you people are making it seem?

At level 32 when WHM gets it, it's a luxury. However, at level 65 when you can sub WHM, every WHM and /WHM is expected to have it. At higher levels, status effects can seriously cripple your party and slow things down. Spiders, for example, have a web effect that slows everyone within range. Unlike normal slow, this one overrides haste, and haste cannot be recast over this until it is removed with erase. Also, sometimes mages (or PLDs) are hit with spells like choke or rasp, and can't rest. Erase gets rid of it. Then there's the dreaded HPMax and MPMax downs... ugh. Erase is a good thing, and is very useful.
