I've actually never seen a White Mage do this (use MP-inefficient healing when not in combat), but I see Paladins and Red Mages do it all the time, and it drives me up a wall.

Paladins will cast cures to keep hate, so its not always a waste. As long as they don't cure a fully healed member it has a purpose.

a funny story in eldieme!

dying of a decent challenge hound in eldieme while the others in my pt stood and looked.. tanked 10-12 hits before dying waiting for a voke.
i got raised by a high lvl passing by, and a battle was taking place near, got hit by ae and instadied again just as i was raised.
waited till the battle was over, got raised again, a skeleton aggroed my low hp and comes oneshotting me.

funny yet sooo sad. this was during genkai 1 and we had only just begun.. we got the first drop about 20mins later. and the rdm who got it goes "sorry guys, i need to watch a movie." as you can guess everyone in the pt blisted him. i wont mention any names though (coughfirehawkcough) ^^

The funniest thing I have ever seen is a so called "Battle Mage" I PTed with in Qufim, He was about a lvl 23 WHM He engaged the monster and even began attacking it. Then he waisted all his MP on blasting out Banish and Banish II (Is it is Banishga? Whichever is thelvl 15 spell) The mob did some attack and took most of us down to really low HP. I mean like in the deep red. I think I had like 20 HP. Then the WHM goes "Don't worry, I'll take care of him." And tries to finish him off with some spells. And we're just like, WTF! Heal us you idiot! It was hilarious. We all ended up dying, and we booted him. The WHM got taken down in like 4-5 hits. I was laughing so hard my ribs hurt.

I'm well aware of this. That's why I said "when not in combat", in the very section of my post which you quoted. It bugs me, though, when AFTER the fight is over the paladin is down 50 hp and drops a Cure II on himself to restore it to full. Especially when he's about to rest for MP (and thus recover that HP while resting) anyway.

Shouldnt they cast cure as much as possible anyway? just to raise the lvl of thier healing magic? I'm only lvl6 with my whm but if I have to heal my mp/hp for what ever I cast cure on myself then just sit and regain my mp thats how I get my cure lvl up... mind you i'm still soloing.

At higher levels (above level 10 in my experience) keeping healing skill capped is generally not difficult, and in fact generally just happens as a consequence of healing in combat. I suppose this might be somewhat less true for a Paladin who does not heal as much as a WHM, but even so, if he wanted to raise his healing skill, he would be better off casting two Cures (giving him two opportunities to raise his skill, and using only 16 MP total) to recover the 50 HP he is down rather than one Cure II (which only gives him one opportunity to raise skill, and costs 25 MP).

Whitemage in a party casting Curaga in battle then accidently hitting his benediction macro with 1 banshee arround him and one Lightning elemental then another guy running from a banshee comes and dies right in the frey so that banshee joined that battle.......lets just say everyone died......lets not say how fast tho......I made 3000k off the raises tho^^

funniest thing ever happend to me was in yoator jungle. So here's how the story goes.

I was a level 29 WAR in yoator jungle in an awesom party. I needed 1 EXP until i gained level 30. I was so god dam excited about being able to get the advanced job i was pissing my pants. So anyways, the RNG pulls a gob, ok ok, looks good, its at half life, im practily jumping up and down. Then this lvl 75 THF runs by with maybe 15 gobs on him, then uses hide right when the gobs were on us. I died, and before the whm zoned he raised me real quick while PLD was doing his best with his 2 hour keeping all the mobs off everyone. So i was raised and WHM said "QUICK QUCK! LETS ZONE!" so i accept raise, and get killed by bomb toss, now im around 1K exp till lvl 30, and think well it mines well be better to just go to home point in kazam and run back, right? well, my home point (as i didnt know) was in sandoria, ugggggggggggggh! so now my pt waits for me to get ALLLLLLLLL the way back to kazam and i get on my chocobo and start running back, but by mistake as soon as i got on choco i clicked "dismount" right outside entrance (where goblin smithies always are zoned) so i hop off choco not knowing what was wrong (i thought i was still on choco, because i was in first person) and turn around to /slap the gob. Anyways, it agros me and i run the wrong way (opposite from zone), and die again. Besides the point, i was completly uterly uppset and smashed my home point button, "OH MY FUCKING GOD!", i hear the fucking horns of sandoria, then my game freezes and i get D/C. When i get back in the pt alrdy replaced me and no other pts were online at the time.


The funniest thing that ive ever seen was when a level 24 blm with no sub and lvl 1 armor with only stone spells /shouted "How much is 1 magic point worth? i have a few of them so should i sell them in the auction shop?" and he wasnt kidding:sweat:

Im lv 11 partying in the dunes. The tank pulls a beach pugil (bad idea). Halfway through the battle The tank tells us to do what I was waiting for. MAGES RUN TO SELBINA. Me and the other two mages blast to Selbina avoiding gobs and all that. I have 2 health and I finally get to the gate. As I pass one last PC before zoning, the sand hare hes fighting catches me in an area attack and I die. Luckily a person rose me and We continued on but wow. I can run across the dunes with 2 health then die to a hare right outside the gate.

I don't think I'm allowed to give you any information about this (read the forum FAQs). It helps if you can read Japanese and you know what you're replacing. I'm also pretty certain that some other person must have written a good FAQ/Guide to it. Do a little Googling.

Personally, as a WHM, you're not missing out on very much. Curaga V and Protect/Shell V are pretty, but I'd rather wait for the actual spells to get released. (I've reverted to my backups)

Reflect and (Bar)Terra/Ignis/Aqua/Aeries look rather disappointing... and Holy actually looks better than Holy 2. If you want to see the spells, there's a Japanese site with videos of them, or bug me if you can't find it.

WHM's that cast cureII after battle when it only restores 70 HP.

Well... If I stand long anough to cast 2 manual cures, it takes more mp than tossing one cure II to "top off" and then sit immediately. 2/9 mp is lost, so the mp wasted = 4.

Sitting down 4 secs faster or so > 4 mp. If the healing needed is LOWER than 60hp, then I'll agree it's a waste.

Just my viewpoint. /heal = 80% of a mages career ^^

i have a funny story

ima whm now in yhoator jungle, i was with an veerrry good pty when one person dropped and i decided to get a war. The war was 14 and incredibly stupid when it comes 2 FFXI. while we looked for a camp, he stole someone elses while i their puller was gone and was making fun of the pty that was there saying we stole their camp, to which their leader pleaded me to leave. well a lil while later he decided to pull a IT madragora, I was the leader so I decided to lead my pty near the zone and watch him die as he continually voked. when is hp was at like 100 i typed in /p shouldnt have been a dick boy! and removed him from my pty. When the mandy was killed by someone else i sat on his corpses face while he begged me for a raise while our puller pulled lol. not really funny, i just HATE when lil kids play the game lol, but im only 16 lol so correction, immature stupid ppl lol

2 nights ago, PULLING a worm in Qufim with silence. Running around the island with this worm surfing over land. It was great.
