what is the divine skill used for? i am only lvl 18 whm(since it is my subjob) and i cast banish in parties to raise it, but it would be nice to know if there is any reason to take time for this skill.

Your divine skill affects the damage you do with the Banish/Holy line of spells. It's not a high-priority skill in my opinion, but it's worth it to throw in a Banish when you can spare the MP to keep the skill steadily rising. Just be careful you're not squandering MP when you need it for healing. I generally raise my divine skill while gilfarming or during quests/missions rather than while leveling.

Even with rising skill these spells won't be BLM-type nukes anytime soon, but they do get much more useful. You can magic burst with them, and they can be effective offensively on undead-type monsters and those that are weak to Light.

Divine Magic affects:

Banish (damage)
Banishga (damage)
Banish II (damage)
Banishga II (damage)
Banish III (damage)
Holy (damage)
Flash (I'm not positive here, want to say it is duration as well as chance to resist)

Of the spells above, only Flash is truly important, IMHO. The Banish line of spells all deal weak damage for their MP cost, compared to BLM or RDM offensive magic.

Its only used for banish/banishga line of spells. Useful to keep maxxed so you can kill stuff like elementals easier when soloing at higher levels. Good for the occasional magic burst :p
More divine skill = less resist and more damage when using banish spell.
