I just wanted to know how people set their whitemage blackmage sub macros. I am having trouble deciding how to set my macros and i keep changing them all the time

my whm is at 17 so i have a set of cure1's for the pt and cure2's for the pt, i have a /target <bt> macro, cure <t>/cure2 <t> macros, a slow macro, an hp/mp macro... a prot/shell macro is also a must (after i go pick up shellra from jeuno anyway) and three other macros... i think bind is one (don't use it much) and i usually make an adjusted bar elementa/status macro

well this is what i do!

i basically have 4 full rows of macros

1 for cures and job abilities

      1 for buffs pro/shellra + bar spells

1 for whm debuffs (dia, banishga, paralyze, slow)

1 for all the blm spells i have so far (stone, water, bio, blaze spikes, bind, blind etc)

i put the whm debuffs seperate to the blm debuffs because i thought it may get confusing when im playing the blm as main, but if anybody has a better stratergy then i would love to hear it too!

      hope this helps you

and i can understand why you keep changing them too, it takes a while to get a set up you are comfortable with and can work with, i changed mine because straight underneath cure i had /wave so every now and then i would wave at someone instead of curing them!! lol (so i chucked all those macros and put them much further down).

as you gain more spells you will always be messing with your macros

        Interesting...
I get by with just one "set" of macros...
I put all of my party status enhancing/curing on the "alt" line, and all of the debuffs, etc. on the "ctrl" line.
Basically, my setup is like this:
        Line 1:

        Cure1 <st> | Cure2 <st> | Protectra/Shellra | Curaga | Divine Seal | Benediction | Poisona | Barfira (for goblins)

And that is it for right now (all other spells (e.g. single person protect/shell) I just get through menus, since they aren't normally crucial to get off NOW!
        My second line:

Status (my MP) | Slow | Paralyze | Dia | Blind | Silence

And i think that is it for that line..can't remember exactly. BTW, i use <bt> for all of the enfeebles, a lot easier to handle in a situation than manually targeting the mob, imo.

Basically, i am of the opinion that you don't need to have a seperate button for each cure person on your list...the refresh time on cure is long enough that using <st> will be plenty of time to get off the spell before timer is elapsed.

Also, think about getting a gamepad...it makes this game soooooo much more enjoyable. I recommend the PS2 controller (you can get the ps2 to usb converter at radio shack for $10) as it was recommended to me, and i love it. Only thing is...rumble causes some folks to crash, so if you have problems after installing controller, that is probably your problem!

thanks for that info i had no idea about the <bt> i shall put that in straight away, and sometimes i use my menu's but i do like to have most things macroed too as when im solo i use menus but when i'm in pt i use macros

does anyone know if you have to put a /wait 2 between all /ja and /ma macros? i tried to fire off divine seal and curaga but it said command error

            can anyone help?

              The "wait" issue.
Ya, you need to have a wait in between skills and such on your macros.
This is because the macro just fires off line after line in quick succession.
Basically, running a macro is like quickly typing in each line and hitting enter immediately.
So if you have something like:
              /ja "Divine Seal" <me>
              /ma "Cure II" <st>

The computer is just going to quickly run both of those commands...the problem is, it tries to run the second line before your divine seal is finished casting.
So, yes, you need to put in a wait timer for the amount of time that it takes to use your ja.
I'm not sure the exact wait on that one though. ^^

These are my current macros. I know it is a lot, but to help clear that up I use the Belkin N52 gamepad. If you notice there are five keys on each row, two rows = 10. So it helps break the macros in chunks. This is for my WHM 23 BLM 20 btw. (This is for when my BLM reached 24)

Hey guys, I just made a whitemage character, I have played as one to sub for my warrior with my now Dragoon character, but I really didn't pt with my white mage. I have a basic cure macro right now, but I have to not be engaged in battle to use it, I press f1-f6 to get the desired party member and then ctrl 1. Is there a better way to do this or is that the preffered way, I just want to be quick and good, and make sure I have the best way.

Sounds like your cure macro is:
                      /ma "Cure" <t>

                      ...
                      Change it to this
                      /ma "Cure" <st>

This way you pick your target *after* you click the macro .. you can use the f keys to do that.
IIRC, you can also use <stpc> or something (not sure if that is the exact command, i just use <st>) to make sure you pick an ally, and not an enemy. However, if you are using the f keys this isn't an issue.

ZenXIII has a good point: Healing/enhancing macros using <t> aren't a good idea. In fact, if you ever engage in battle, they are flat out useless. So I'd also suggest using <stpc> with the Function keys. <st> will work too, but I think that <st> will default to the battle target, whereas <stpc> will default to either you or a party member. (Sorry, I'm not 100% sure on the details, I've gotten so used to just pressing macro-functionkey-enter I never even look anymore! )

Also, I personally don't like switching macro sets during battle. I also really liked having individual party member macros up until the late 30s, so my set looked like this:

                          Ctrl: Cure p0 - p1 - p2 - p3 - p4 - p5 - Dia <bt> - Paralyze <bt> - Slow <bt> - MP Report

                          Alt: Cure II p0 - p1 - p2 - p3 - p4 - p5 - Regen <stpc> - Cure III <stpc> - Divine Seal <stpc> - /p Danger! <call2>

Other spells I cast manually (Protectra and Shellra, -nas, Banish, etc). For Benediction I still use the Ctrl-J menu. All of the non-Cure I and II spell macros have a /party chat line that uses the tab-translator to announce the spell name and the target.

But I've since changed my setup to have Cure I - IV targeted with <stpc>, freeing up spaces for Regen II, Sneak, Invis, Haste, and others.

I don't macro any black magic spells when playing WHM. But when leveling BLM, I have a set of macros much like my earlier-level WHM set, but replacing Slow with Blind, DS with ES, and a couple other changes. I don't macro the elemental spells. Choosing manually forces me to slow down my casting and wait for bursts.

hey another quick question for you. When using <stpc> or <st> how do you tell the party who you are healing, I've tried to play with it breifly and couldn't figure it out. So I can heal but they'll have to look to see who's getting healed.

                              /ma "Cure" <st>
                              /party Casting Cure on <t>

Since you already have selected the target it will show there name in the <t> spot so it will look like
