  • Is Taru RSE worth it?

I'm Lvl 33 , and I have the Faerie Tunic so far, and it gives DEF 22 and +2 to many elements.

When I hit lvl 34 I can get the Cloak which is only 8k in cost and gives DEF : 27!

I was thinking I could sell my Faerie Tunic and would then be able to afford the Wonder Kaftan, but that only gives DEF 18 and MND +1 is the only stat on there that will help my.

So, is the RSE Body really worth it? Its a lvl 33 piece of equipment and makes me wonder why a WHM would opt for it over a Lvl 34 Cloak which is half the price.

Actually its free if you do the quest, I do not recommend buying them unless you have the gil to blow. So your basically saving 27-40k on the Body Piece alone.

RSE armor is good to have reguardless if you like them or not (on character or mog house safe). It makes a perfect mage armor until AF, saving you thousands of gil. It can also save you cash with jobs that usually don't tank like THF, use RSE until better armor shows up. Note that there might be better choices in armor passed 33-52 but spells are usually more important than armor as a mage.

Only hard part is getting the keys if your not a THF, since most monsters that drop keys for the RSE parts are in the high 30's early 40's lvls.

      do the quest and get it and either use it or sell it..either way yes its worth it...defense dosnt matter for the average taru (mage) because they shouldnt be taking hate anyway.....the RSE has alot of +'s to stats and i would take that over a few extra defense -_-;

Yea its just that i doubt i'll be able to muster up a party to help me get the keys, so I doubt i'll be able to get it for free.

I don't think the Wonder RSE armor is that great for WHMs.

RSE is basically designed to make up for racial deficiencies. For Tarus, that makes it more suited to melee classes or those taking damage.

Look at the body armor for example:

          Wonder Kaftan
          DEF 18 | HP 36 | STR 1 | VIT 2 | MND 1

          Frost Robe
          DEF 21 | MP 6 | ICE 2

On my server the Frost Robe runs for about 3k at the Jueno AH.

I would much rather have the increased DEF and enough MP for an extra cure than 36 HPs and 1 MND.

          Look at hands:

          Wonder Mitts
          DEF 6 | HP 12 | STR 3

          Devotee's Mitts
          DEF 5 | MP 8 | INT -4 | MND 5

Devotee Mitts are also not that expensive on my server. The time spent getting the RSE could be used to farm the gil to buy the Devotee Mitts. I would much rather have another 8 MP for heals and 5 MND than 12 HPs and 3 STR.

Between those two items alone you are increasing your max MP by 14.

The only piece of RSE that I think might be a good selection are the Wonder Braccae. There really aren't that many inexpensive pants in the game for WHMs around that level.

Taru are racially designed to be mages. Therefore, if we are played correctly thee is no need to make up for a deficit in that area.

I think RSE for non-Tarus will give them a much appreciated MP boost.

I found the entire Tarutaru RSE set to be quite useful as a WHM, and I still carry all pieces even after acquiring part of my AF. What I did was use Electrum jewelry (-HP/+MP) and offset the HP penalty by wearing RSE. The Wonder Kaftan is pretty good on its own, and the Wonder Braccae are fantastic for WHM.

If you don't have a lot of people you can count on for RSE key/chest hunting, however, it can be very difficult to get the pieces, not to mention extremely time-consuming.

Still, I found that RSE armor made a huge impact on my performance from level 35-50, and it still gives me some nice options at level 54.

Based on stats only (I have yet to get my own RSE.. I'm lazy.. waiting til I can do it solo) I'd get the pants only.. MAYBE the body..
                Just for the +MND boosts.
Boots and gloves only offer + str which isn't useful to me.. and +HP.. which is nice, but I don't want it THAT badly. >>

I never thought about it that way. I may definitely grab the pants now and translate those HPs into MP.

Ideas like this that completely escape me are the reason I am glad I come to these boards.

                  Thanks.

I see a lot of whm and blm people wearing any kind of rse into the high fourties and sometimes fifties. Then again I've seen others that are still wearing level 1-10 gear.

I've found the Taru RSE legs to be no-brainer. I wear the body too, I like it better than the Frost Robe. (I also wear some -HP/+MP equipment though.) The Bishop's Robe is the only other pre-AF body piece that interests me, because it has higher DEF, +3 MP, and +2 MND... but it's not so much better that I need to drop 30k to buy it.

In general, I look at stat bonuses before def, which is why I've never understood why stuff like Wool Robe and Cloak are popular/expensive. The Cloak even makes you give up your head equipment, which for me adds lots of MP (or def and evasion, depending on what I'm doing).

I haven't bothered to quest for the Mitts or Clomps yet. I agree that the Devotee's Mitts are much better than the RSE mitts. I still wear Mage's Sandals, which aren't that great but good enough that I haven't felt the need to get the clomps. The clomps will definitely be my next RSE acquisition though.

I'm a Bard now, would the RSE benefit me more now?

                          Taru RSE looks terrible.

It all depends on what you like. RSE generally compensates for a races weaknesses. In a taru's case, it's the physical side of things. I got all my RSE, but only to sell since I don't care too much for it being a mage, and the HP bonuses aren't all that important to me. The legs ARE nice but, hehe, I hate the way taru RSE looks.

Anyhow, tarus that are meleers benefit the most from a full suit of RSE, but mages can find uses in it to for themselves. It's just a matter of preference.
