Regardless of what led up to it, if it came down to 1) using Benediction and die as a result but saving the rest of the PT, or 2) leaving rest to die but run and survive, which would you choose?

Just like any other job should do it - if a certain action saves the rest of the party, but makes you die, you should do the sacrifice. That doesn't only go for white mages, but anyone and everyone really. ^_^ We just have a handy tool.

I'd rather sacrifice myself if it can save the lives the 5 other people =) That skill is there for a reason Besides, if I knew I could've saved my whole party from dying but didn't do it, I'd feel horrible later on.

There are certain cases. If your party can take it on but 1 or 2 people will die... it's better them than you. On the otherhand, if you're on the brink of a total wipe-out (no MP, everyone's HP in red...), use it :p

One thing to remember before you die for your team ... It seems the higher level you become the more difficult the zones become to access. If you are the only one to die, who is going to raise you? Are you going to sit in a potentially remote zone begging for a raise? Or even worse die and make your way back to the zone? It's often much more efficient to raise the one or two members who die then continue xping.

It's why I'm glad I chose Mithra - i only died ONCE from using benediction, and that was from three ghouls as my party tried to run away :p It's nice not being cut down like a taru =)

It depends on the PT, if weve all been playing well and having a good time and something pops on us or the puller accidently gets two or what not then ill use it.

If the PT has been bad, exp slow, people in general being idiots, no friendly conversation etc then i wont use it.

Icemage has some excellent advice on the use of Benediction in this thread. Benediction doesn't always have to be a suicide move.

Yes you should use benediction like someone said if you are out of MP and everyone is in red, and then after you use it sit there and pray that the warriors can get it off you in time. =D

If not, well the best thing about leveling down is getting to level back up again. ^_^

I have never died using Ben i have cought myself using it twards the end of a fight when it is going to be very close and i wont have enough to keep the half dead tank up but i am full hp , i pop off Bene and prey the party kills the beast. but i am a Galka so i can usualy take a couple hits.

used it tonight 2 dead and 4 almsot dead, but i was also checking mob and seeing he was way down also, so i tried to time it and hoped mon didnt crit on main tank. cast it, 4 tanks back to full health , mob didnt even look at me, it died 30 secs later.

2 mobs later got crit for 600 dmg and died lol

There's another topic in this forum about benediction macros in which Icemage had some great points. The major point being that you don't have to die to benediction. Use benediction when you have 0 mp and you're gonna die. It's as simple as that. How about laying off a little when the fight gets really hairy, casting blink and stoneskin on yourself, and then using benediction. While the mob is franticly trying to murder you, recast blink. That should buy you enough time for the tank to pull the agro back onto him. Hail Icemage, the uber wise white mage.

Sometimes, it is a tough call because there are many lower level Whm without Stoneskin or Blink. One of the biggest mistakes (if you can call it that) that I've found is that many Whm run around and around after they cast Benediction. If you are going to use Benediction and have no zone, cast as many enhancing spells as you have on yourself quickly, take out your hammer and shield and attack it. Because if you run around, your party cannot attack the mob while it chases after you. You have a much higher chance to survive if you stand and fight.
