Subjob BLM useless?

Well, WHM/RDM is a bit more defensive choice but once your WHM gets level 40 then BLM is the way to go. Fast Cast ain't all that good.
I don't know what level you are but once I started using Cure2 regularilly I never had any problem with healing "too slow", always plenty of time and when a mob does a special bringing a pt member low just throw a larger heal.

The only thing I would use the BLM sub for would be MP and Warp. What's wrong with only casting cure spells? Let the BLM's and maybe the RDM's nuke the monster.

I will probably use SUM as a sub when I acquire it only for the MP boosts and other things relating to MP.

I've heard the same goes with the paladin's and Warrior's def up innate ability is that it doesn't stack.

When i started FFXI i thought i will do WHM/SMN. Due to the fact that BLM is available at lvl 18 when i got my subjob i decided to start with blackmage sub and did it only to lvl 10. A bit later i finaly decided its time to lvl subjob because i wanted warp.
Now, today at lvl 41/20 WHM/BLM i will not do summoner. I may have a little more mana but i love the spells i got as aditional as black mage. I cant count how often bind and sleep safed my and the butts of many else.

Ill not throw away these realy great spells for a bit more mana. Last night in crawlers nest we wanted to kill soldiers and got a mushroom agroed (about lvl 48). As he was going to own us the tank said "run" and runned, i bound the thing, healed the tank and everybody did it safe to zone. No way i will trade that in for 50 or 100 more mana.

When you're 58, you'll love Escape more, a lot more.
