  • Should I use rdm/whm or whm/rdm?

    Which should I start with?

I really want to be a good white mage and I really want to start as a white mage but I've heard you can only use red mage weapons if you have red mage as your main job. is this true?

Also what about clothes? If I started as rdm would I be able to wear whm clothes??

Your whole equipment depends on your main job. If rdm is only your sub, you will not be able to equip swords etc.

If you started as rdm you'd be able to wear all the clothes your rdm main job allows you to. Often those are whm clothes, but it does vary.

Starting a rdm is easier, because you'll be able to fight properly. They will always be wanted, too. Whms are able to get access to great healing spells sooner than rdms, but a rdm can access most of the spells a whm can, plus blm spells.

In the end, it's your decision. Choose the job you feel the most comfortable with. If you want to be primarily healer and enjoy helping people, go for whm. If you want to be an all-around character (good at a lot of things, outstanding only at enfeebling magic), go for a redmage.

Thanks I really appreciate your help and swift reply.

I am really keen on using a sword and white magic. Is this possible?

Also, I intend on being a summoner for my advance job. What would be an ideal sub before if I plan to take whm in the beginning?

OFF TOPIC: miriamel, can i please know what 2 spells are being casted in your sig and your profile, since they look pretty cool, i havent got the game yet so bear with me if its a very common spell or something that i should recognise.

ON TOPIC: im thinking of being a wht/smn in the long run (rdm/wht and wht/rdm in the short run) are wht fun to play? does it get boring, like loads of people make it sound to be? in battle do they ONLY heal or do they do something else? the word variety comes to mind.

        thanks in advance.

edit: i guess both questions are kinda off topic, but i might as well ask my 'on topic' question along with the other one in one post, instead of wasting space creating a topic about it.

          On the original topic:

RDM is easier to raise than WHM at the beginning. Note: You do NOT have access to a subjob when you first start the game. That ability comes after you complete the support job quest in either Selbina or Mhaura at level 18+.

I am really keen on using a sword and white magic. Is this possible?
Play a Paladin. Red Mages stop being able to hit things around level 35.

Also, I intend on being a summoner for my advance job. What would be an ideal sub before if I plan to take whm in the beginning?
WHM/RDM is good up to WHM33/RDM16. WHM/BLM is better at WHM40/BLM20+.

Don't count on being able to play Summoner any time soon. It's VERY hard to get the avatars (you need a full group of level 60ish players to beat each Prime Avatar - that means you generally can't beg some high level player to get it for you. It just isn't possible.)

miriamel, can i please know what 2 spells are being casted in your sig and your profile, since they look pretty cool, i havent got the game yet so bear with me if its a very common spell or something that i should recognise.
The spell in Miriamel's profile is Blink, a WHM19/RDM23 defensive spell. The spell in his sig is Regen, a WHM21/RDM21 enhancement spell that heals damage to the target over time.

This depends entirely on what you enjoy doing. Some people can't stand playing healers/support characters. Others wouldn't have it any other way. Only you can answer this question for yourself.

Hey sorry I forgot to mention I'm a hume. So what do you think of the pal/whm combo? I've heard that you have significantly less mp than a whm main job. I wanted to be a quite efficient party healer with a sword. Do sub-jobs have a lower maximum stat or do they just take longer?

EDIT : ok.. I've done a little more research. quote : "PAL/WHM isn't great... but it's the best melee/mage class combo in the game..... " is this true??

              'her' please..
*nods* Totally right, though. Blink and Regen. In my opinion, they are the best-looking spells I have so far.

If you plan to go paladin I would suggest warrior as your subjob. A paladin's main role is to tank and a warrior subjob gives paladin tools needed, namely provoke. I've heard some people go PLD/WHM but they generally end up as mediocre healers.

That's true. I've heard they are ok allround rather than specific. Prehaps this will be a good thing for me as I'll want to be constantly changing and with a decent supply of items, I can play the role of anyone we should need in a party. It'll also be great for solo play and PvP

not much point at being pld/whm since the paladin job gives you access to heals anyway...

thanks for the help everyone, I think I'm gonna go for whm/rdm. I don't think paladins are as good as they look.

PS: I've also decided I am going to be a taru taru to maximise my potential. I'll make a different character for my hume pal/war

no need to lock  but I feel like adding on into this topic. whm's are a basic surport class imo. whm/rdm is a good combo you'll get alot more mnd for stronger cures but pretty soon cures get to a cap which doesn't cure no more cure 1 max - 30 | cure 2 max - 90 | crue 3 max - 190 (please correct me if I am wrong  ) so pretty soon your curing skill will raise to it's max. whm would go good with blm also since they give you a bit more mp which some races could use and some black magic to keep you safe like bind (saves me alot of times  ) rdm is a surporter also since they have a key spell called refresh which mages love. Also even tho rdm's don't use swords at high levels when they solo they use there sword as one of the key offense. So ... good luck plz correct me if im wrong
