Ok, AFAIK, for this quest, I've been to Quicksands, found the ??? and took the stuff back to quest giver, and took his stuff to Sandoria to give to another friar, who told me to wait another day. It's already 4 in-game days and he's still asking me to wait, am I missing something here?

have you tried zoneing out and back in again?

logging out and in doesn't count as zone. for many quests I had to zone

You have to talk to this Friar in Rabao, can't remember his name, but you need Sandoria fame to get started with the quest. He'll ask you to bring a tablet from Quicksands, and there are 4 possible spots, near the 2 entrance in Eastern Altepa.

1 and 3. All you have to do is just hug the left wall or right wall of either entrance, and move straight until you come to and end looking for ???. You only need sneak in here, nothing aggros on sight IIRC, but if you're in this long tunnel where all the cactuar and anticans are, warp, don't bother trying to run out and recast sneak. And after you have found the ???, go back and talk to the Friar in Rabao, and he'll give you some key items, then you have to go back all the way to Sandoria, the basement of the church, and talk to the guy outside the room in the basement, and wait ONE REAL DAY. Yes, not one vanadiel day. Good luck.

Gonna start my Vahzl Teleport quest later.

Can you please be more specific as to the 4 locations? I've died three times already looking for the damn ???. At one point I found one in G8 of Map 2 but all I got was an "Antican Tag". ><

I did the Teleport-Altep quest yesterday. I found the ??? at E-9 on the first map of Quicksands. Of course, the location changed after I touched it so it might not be there again (on Midgardsormr). It was on the floor in a room with a ton of anticans standing almost on top of it. Just wander around checking all the rooms in the first map.

Uhm, funny. I looked again today and found it around E9 of the second map (eyeballing it... around the time I saw the ??? sneak started to wear )
I guess it is totally random.

You don't need Sandorian fame in particular. Perhaps it's based on hometown or overall fame, but I got this quest with ZERO Sandorian quests done. None. Had done enough in Bastok for the Gobbiebag quest and Goblin Tailor RSE quests, and also Teleport Dem. About 33 with who knows how many repeatables, 10 windurst with tons of repeatables, and a few other quests here and there.
                  I am still a noob. T_T

I've gone into Quicksands for this quest a few times now. Haven't found a ??? yet unfortunately. When I go into the entrance marked 1 on Synbios' map, a little ways in I reach a ledge that I can't get back up. I dropped down there once and looked all around, no luck. My question is, do I need to drop down there again, or would the ??? be before that ledge? I assume I need to drop down, but just wanted to check. Once I drop down, the only exit (well, other than Warping out) I found is at point 4, I believe -- the earth protocrystal area. That's a long walk.

Going into entrance 3 there's no similar ledges, I can walk to the hallways that have the sandy circular rooms branching off them and walk back out.

I also assume I shouldn't have to drop down into a quicksand whirlpool to the lower levels of the caves. Right?

                    Thanks for the help.

There's one pop at L-10, and it's quite safe over there, so you can hide at a corner and wait for the ??? to rotate to that location, when I was hunting coffer for my friends, like 4 times, the ??? popped right there while the coffer always pop in M-9. Yea, all 4 times, the ??? popped at L-10 and the coffer popped at M-9. So much for randomness.

After a couple more hours of wandering and going in various entrances, I finally found it at H-6. Over the course of the days I was looking I found the treasure coffer twice, and wished I was a THF. I was operating without a map, so it was hard to relate all the entrances and tunnels.

In Sandoria, the friar said it would be a few days before I should come back, so I take it that means at least a few hours. I'll try to pick up my scroll after about 18 real hours.

                        Thanks again.

The only real usefull information about the location inside the dungeon is from Synbios. Im gogin to luck up the ??? today and informations like

I finally found it at H-6.
                            or

I found the ??? at E-9 on the first map of Quicksands
Are so completely useless with 6 possible maps. A (H-6) is on 4 of these 6 maps possible. E-9 is also on 4 of the 6 maps possible where only 3 of these 4 maps can be the "first" map. What ever entrance you use

Looks like i have to stay at L-10 and search random. When i find it somewhere else ill post the map with the location. Gather more information on this one.

Notice that the E-9 comment mentions the "first map". This is actually probably more useful than you apparently realize.

Quicksand Caves is a giant one-way dungeon. You can enter and exit at many of the same locations (presumeably the pits don't work this way, but I've never tried to use any of them to get in), but there are a number of drop offs within the dungeon that don't allow you to return back the way you came.

So the "first map" would therefore be the "top" of the path.

Killing Ifrit (www.killingifrit.com) has a nice selection of maps that will help you to figure out which entrances in Altepa lead to which sections of the caves, and where you need to enter in order to be able to visit the entire thing.
