  • quitting WAR...for WHM

Well as an elvaan lvl 24 war/12 mnk im tired of waisting 3 hours of my life looking for a PT so im concidering ging whm/blm depending on your input.

I would be going PLD/WAR but it's really frustrating waiting for PTs.

Is being an elvaan going to cripple some of the BLM spells like the elemental armors, Aspir, Tractor, ect. since elvaans are high MND but low INT?

Is starting over at square 1 (except for missions and quests) worth not going PLD/WAR compared to WHM/BLM which get PTs in 30sec not 3 hours?

Any other pros and cons of doing what I'm suggesting would be appreciated to.

BTW I have been looking at 3 forums on info on both elvaan/WHM/BLM/PLD so don't worry I'm not a slacker just asking questions.

Elvaan mages are amazingly unspectacular, but still playable if you work at it. However, that being said, you should never, ever play a class because it is in demand - if it doesn't suit your temperament or play style, then you're going to be wasting even more of your time.

Not everyone likes playing support, and a lot of people dislike the responsibility of playing WHM. In the case of BLM... oy.. Elvaan BLM are pretty bad early on, and they don't get much better with time. Their spells do less damage, and their MP pool is low.

Regarding getting party invitations... the best thing to do is to cultivate friends and acquaintances who like playing with you - if you don't socialize and make friends, yes, it is very, very, very hard to get a decent number of party invitations. But that's still better than playing a character that you may not like. Still, no one can make that decision for you - you have to make it yourself, based on your evaluation of your own preferences and capabilities.

After leveling warrior to 30 myself I can understand the annoyance of sitting around for hours. However, to not sound like a broken record ... (hopefully).

When you DO get a party be nice to the people in the party. As a warrior your main job is to keep the monster off the mages. Things I found helpful when playing warrior is that set up a skillchain and a provoke order as well. Try to do these ASAP about within the first 5 monsters. Once you've got a routine its all easy from there. Print out a skilllchain chart! Basically try to have an impact on the people you playing with - a good one at that. If you are the warrior that asks right away, and tries to fit themselves into the party ASAP. Chances are they will remember you over the warrior that didn't. During my last few levels to 30 the people I partied with were people I had befriended. It may sound unfair but being warrior is quite competitive as there is only a million of them around. If people remember you chances are they will invite you again, this game is all about knowing people. As long as you have fun the key to this game is to make tons of friends! I'd take a warrior I knew was good over one I know that I don't know any day.

Another thing that is helpful: be in the right location. In general:
      LV 24-26 Qufim
      LV 26-30 Batallia or Kazam

Having Kazam airship pass on less populated servers is a big party plus!

My switch from WAR/MNK to WHM/SMN was purely because I love playing support. When I first started playing FFXI I didn't realize this. Man did I realize it... oh about 23 levels into WAR. *hee hee* In fact some of the people I befriended playing WAR/MNK are starting over with advanced jobs so I'm still partying with some of them - but as the supporter now.

With all that said if you truly like being melee/tank then I don't think you should change... however that is your decision. Being a healer/supporter is quite hectic at times in every MMORPG if you don't truly love the class I don't see why you would put up with it.

(Em... yeah. This post should prolly go into a tips for playing warrior thread I think. It fits here too. Heh.)

I played thief up to lvl 12 then I got bored of looking for whm so I decided to make one.

It is fun, if you don't mind the pressure.

It is indeed very easy to find a party. The only hard thing is to decide which one to join.

One annoying thing is that when I log off it means that the party is over unless they can find another one. So I can fell kinda bad to ruin everyone fun.

Thanks for the help. I've decided to try and stick out WAR aand give it one more chance for PLD/WAR.

I do love supporting but I'd need to wait for my equip for WAR to sell to buy equip for WHM/BLM and being 5/1 was sad
