  • Are Black Magic really weak when it's a sub job?

    I've been reading many threads about how weak damaging Black Magics are if u have it as a sub for a white mage.
    I always thought black magic's damage is effected by INT...
    In a case of a TaruTaru, even though it's main job is a white mage, if you sub a Black Mage it's INT becomes stronger than MND. Would this help to deal decent damage with a white mage or are there other things that decreases the damage of black magics casted by white mages.?:confused:

    Several things determine the damage of your offensive black magic, but the major component is your Elemental Magic skill. Since a /BLM subjob will only be half your main job's level, you will deal basically no damage - for instance, if you were WHM40/BLM20, your black magic spells deal damage as if you were a level 20 Black Mage with a few extra points of INT. and around 60 Elemental skill. That might sound like a lot, but I assure you it would barely even tickle a level 40 enemy.

    For any character with /BLM subbed, basically ignore all of your elemental spells, as they will have no impact, and won't be worth casting at any time. If you absolutely have to hit for damage with a spell, there's always Banish and (and level 50) Holy, though personally, I think WHM should focus on keeping the party alive, not attacking.

    If you want to be able to do both attack and heal, then you should consider playing as a Red Mage instead.

      I am under the impression people sub BLM for the extra mana pool,and spells like warp. Those are the reasons I wanted to sub it

      3 Mithra are better than 1...

          ok well Smn does give you lots of mp, but I must say having the Blm will make you more diverse with the enfeebles and will keep your pt loving you.

          Blm spells that are very nice in pts or solo: Warp, Escape, Aspir, Drain, and they're enfeebles like Bio Shoke/burn/drown. etc. Bind, Blind.

          Dont forget however, Blms still give an mp bonus; just not as much as the Smn.
          Full Cursed= O
          Full Str Gear= O
          Apocalypse= ; ;

          DRK - /war /thf /nin /sam /whm

            I'd love to sub summoner evetually or try it as main job but really before you hit 30 its not an option to sub.
            I'm subbing BLM to 10 so I can cast blind,bind and bio as I continue on my WHM mainjob from 18-30.

            Going straight to 30 with no sub until i could get summoner would be harder I think and the extra mp from subbing is nice.
