  • Bastok WHM Lv.10 Soloing?

I need the advice of another white mage.

I go to Wadi and die, I go to Konchstat and die, I go to Palburough and die. Where should I go and what should I do?

At level 10 it's too difficult to find a party, and when I do find one, I only get about 9 exp per kill.

Can anyone please guide me? I've been stuck on level 10 for 4 days now.

Well, Palburough is what I did to get through 10. They may be low experience, but kill any and every Quadav and Hare that cons easy to you (Yes, I said Hare). You'll get 15-25 experience per kill, and will be slowly working your way up to 11 and Cure II. You'll also be making a decent amount of cash from not having to share the drops (Yummy 100 gil shields and shells) plus you can pick up the pieces required for Mission 3--Yes, even off the Quadavs at the entrance.

Do NOT go too far into Palburough. If you see an Onyx, Veteran, or Greater Quadav you're too far. If you see a Copper Beetle, you're too far. If you see anything that cons even, turn around. If you see something that cons "Decent Challenge", it's up to you--You could win, you could lose. I was somewhat decently equipped at that level (I ended up dying enough times that I made enough to fully suit myself in decent armor and a so-so weapon), and I still am, so I can take out decent challenges (Level 13 ATM).

There are two ways to fight... the first is just melee the bastard to death and heal yourself up afterwards, and this can be pretty mana efficient if you stick to the lower conning monsters. If you're trying on something harder, start off with a Paralyze, then a Banish, then a Dia, then melee, and Banish everytime it becomes available, healing when necissary. Build up TP and use Shining Strike when available. You should win almost everytime.

Do not join groups unless you know it's going to be a good experience (And be good experience). Do not help people out by throwing them heals in the middle of combat, unless you're sure they're not going to die and sic the monster on you. Do learn the layout of the place so you can run anytime you need to. 2-3 hours is all you'll need to level up, and then you can move on to the Highlands or stay around in Palburough until level 12 (Which I did). From there you should be able to find a Dunes group, though I found much better experience by duoing with a warrior in the Highlands. Remember--It isn't always a good thing to group with people higher than you. Sure, you're killing things harder than you normally would be in your average group, but you're killing their and your experience if the level difference is more than 2 (Rough estimate).

Oh, and remember to deck yourself out. At least have that 8-damage hammer or that 5-damage +2 MND wand, otherwise you're just spinning your wheels if you can't do damage.

      Thanks

Thank you so much for the advice! I think my problem is I've been completely ignoring easy fights and going straight to decents and evens.

I went into Palburough looking for the Quadov parts, and thought "Well, theres no way they drop off of these easy guys at the entrance.", So I ran all the way down the deepest tunnel I found, then started climbing upwards. Eventualy I died. Tonight when I get back from work I'll go there and just stick near the front.

As for doing decent damage with a weapon, at level 9 I went to San'Dioria (No one in party had a map, it was hilarious watching us wander around aimlessly for 5 hours) with signet and killed for about 2 hours in Ronfaure, this got me enough conquest points to buy a legion staff. 12 damage, 368 delay, 6 hp, 6mp. Only problem is I died all the time when trying to find some tougher monsters, so I traveled back to Bastok.

Edit: Of course, after our very long journey, signet wore off. There is a Bastok I.M. guy in a building in North San'Dioria.

I have the same exact problem with leveling...only I am at level 8 right now. No matter where I go it's so tough to level up on my own...and with my regualr party of warriors and monks, they're all already at levels 12, 13, and 14. I am not sure what to do or where to go. Most of my solo battles I end up using ALL my MP just to heal myself...and more than once I've been saved by other players (to which I am eternally grateful!). Any advice to a low level white mage about where to level up more easily while soloing? Or even in a party for that matter.

Zagreus, I did what Aniga mentioned. I'm level 9 and got there soloing at the zone in at Palburough. But I bought a shield and a bronze hammer from vender (players charging to much). I'm also a Hume, so I can take a bit of damage.

Just be sure to con everything first and do easy only. I usually start with a Dia spell to pull mob, get my weapon out prior to them getting to me and wack em dead. Then heal self, rinse.. repeat. What I like is the fact that the zone is right there in case I get adds or forget to con them.

Also if you team up with just one other (tank, thief, whatever) you can kill tons of mobs at entrance with very little down time.

          good luck

            WOOT!

<--- *Points to the Lvl 11 underneath his picture to the left.

Woo hoo! I had a blast in Palburough tonight. I wandered around killing nothing but rabits for an hour until I got to level 11. Immediately someone saw me asking cure II and wanted me to group with them. We were exp chaining tough and very tough mobs for about 2 hours (With breaks, not a compelte chain, lol).

Eventualy we got too confident and got wiped out, but I still got more exp than I lost. Yay! I'm so glad to be level 11 now.

Was so happy that I redid my journal (link to external site in sig if anyone wants to see). I had a bunch of negative comments on how whms stunk and werent' good for newbies to start out with and stuff. But now that I'm out of that rut, it's quite fun again.

You have a couple options from here. You're going to be getting to the level pretty soon where a group is going to be a must for decent experience (You're not quite there yet). To make the most out of your soloing or duoing levels, I'd suggest sticking around Pal. Mines for one more level, duoing there, or going to the Highlands and duo around the Crag (Kill Lizards, Wasps, and those little walking butts). You can make decent cash off them still (Crystals, Beehive Chips from the Wasps [2,500 gil for a stack of 12], so forth) and the experience isn't bad--they'll be Decent Challenges or Evens, so you and a warrior should be able to handle them. Once you hit 12 or 13, head on over to the Dunes and hope you get a good group, and you can blaze through two levels a day like I did earlier today :D

Just be careful in the Dunes. If you're a good White Mage, you're probably going to die, a lot, because your Warriors most likely will not be that good

I did what Aniga did. I went to the mines, and I basically hitted everything that I saw, not to mention you make a nice deal of money. When I got to around level 12, me and 2 monks went to highlands and killed mist lizards, and probally got to lvl 14 like that. Now i'm currently at the beach near Salbina(sp?) and we're killing crabs.

                Goodluck on your leveling guys.

There's no shame in grinding up on easy prey. As a WHM solo I almost always get killed by an even match (unless I have my TP at 300% and go balls-to-the-wall on offense). Decent challenges with high defense often pose a real challenge, especially if they use magic, especially if they link on you. I had a string of Qdavs come after me, I fought two of the three off and I thought I was going to make it. I was running really low on MP. And then ANOTHER joins the fray and I am slain.

A fast nickel is better than a slow dime. If you take the risk on even matches you can easily set yourself back a long way.

Why do people have to spam shout when they can use search and send tells to party leaders asking whether they need a WHM or not.
