  • Elvaan White Mages

I'm planning on being an Elvaan White Mage and then at level 30 white mage will become my sub-job. My question is what advanced job would go with white mage the best and give me the ability to be able to play without a party? If i will not do wel without a party, what adv job would be the best in anyone's opinion?

Beastmaster. Ive never played it, but Bst/whm sounds like a good combo for soloing.

Best advanced jobs for white mage are beastmaster, summoner (looks at Veskar's pic), and bard. I have a blm/whm Elv right now and it's pretty cool too. =)

        Yah! Elvaan white mages rule!

With a high MND stat, all they need is items that boost max MP, and they're set!:

And you'll have so many party invites

        Merit Count : 26
Current Merit Target : Critcal Hit Rate @2 (1/2)

Elvaan are the second worst mages, they have high MND ooh who cares cause healing caps, you have crap MP and not any itmes will bring it up to a HUME/Mithra or a Taru. T.T

so..? wouldn't the high MND help them land status spells like sleep and slow on enemies?

No, the MND stat doesn't effect the Sleep, Slow, Paralyze, etc... spells, the magic stat "Enfeebling" magic effects if your magic is reisted or not.

When I was leveling whm as a hume, I was always jealous of taru mp. Imagine how bad elvaans will be... and yes mnd hardly effects healing amount since cure 1 caps at 30 (31-33 on light days) and cure 2 caps at 90 (91-99 on light days) and so forth. If you are a elvaan whm you will need a dedicated 2nd healer since you will most likely run out of mp. But if you are dedicated to this the best would be Bard/Whm since bards dont use much of their mp anyways (you will not be able to cast raise at 50/25 though without +mp items)

I'm pretty sure that MND affects your enfeebling magic.

                      Re Elvaan WHM

Hi ya, I also wonder what is the best advance class, but I'd go for the beast Master, Sommer isnt soo.... (personnal opinion of course) I'll be in Sandoria, defending my Kingdom, so they'll need WHM that's for sure It's also a challenge for me, I just want to enjoy playing thats all hehehe.

So, I went Elvaan WHM, because I thought that the MND boost Elvaan receive would be really nice, even at high levels. I had no idea I was wrong, but I've invested quite a lot of time into my character at this point, and I'd really like to continue on the WHM track.

So, is this viable? I was really considering taking WHM up to very high levels. Can I just not do this anymore? Isn't there some way I can work around being a silly, ignorant newbie? =/ Thanks for your help...

It's possible to play Elvaan WHM to high levels, but you REALLY have to watch your MP usage, because you're going to have about 30-40% less MP than a Taru mage at the same level depending on equipment. In general, Elvaan just don't make very good WHM. Their high MND stat becomes mostly meaningless after level 15 or so, when all WHM and RDM start hitting the soft cap of 30 on Cure.

I saw several high level Elvaan WHM in the beta, one of whom made it to level 50, so it IS possible, but just be aware that you're not going to be able to protect a party by yourself as an Elvaan WHM simply because you won't have enough MP to last through a xp chain, no matter how careful you are about what you cast.

Still, if you find it fun, there's nothing wrong with sticking with it for a while as long as you're having a good time. Technically, all race/job combinations are playable until at least level 20.

Thanks for the info, Icemage. =) I suppose, from a more objective viewpoint, staying as a WHM until 30 should be pretty okay -- at 30, I'll branch out and explore something different, perhaps an Advanced Class of some sort. Donno what, though, but we shall see.

Actually, the more I read, the more it seems that I should have levelled my subjob first, which is really just fine with me -- I'll just use WHM as my subjob. So, I'll stick with WHM until 20 and then switch to RDM, possibly, level RDM to 30 and then pick an Advanced Class of some sort. Unless I really should go BLM for the MP boost it'll give me? But then I'm kind of stuck in the same problem, having two high-level casting jobs and that's it. Even with RDM, that's a little bit of a problem... maybe I should just switch to melee now and have it done with, but that's 12 levels kind of wasted.

Anyway, any more advice is appreciated. =) In hindsight, I don't think I made a mistake being a WHM, as it's been ridiculously easy to find a group and level up. And if the levelling is easy, it'll make it even easier when I go back through with a subjob, so... all things told, it could work out well, I think.

You really haven't wasted any time at all, actually. Regardless of what job you choose to pick as your main, using /WHM as a subjob is often a good choice simply because it reduces the amount of downtime you spend resting while at this awful low levels (level 1-15).

As with WHM, Elvaan RDM suffer from much the same problem. Particularly because one of their most powerful abilities, Convert, relates directly to the amount of HP vs. MP. Convert exchanges your HP for MP and vice versa. If you have low max MP and high max HP, Convert isn't going to give you back as much MP as a character with more balanced HP/MP stats. I heard some higher level RDM in the beta complain that Convert wasn't really useful, but most of those complaints came from Elvaan RDM

Elvaan make excellent Paladins, if you're inclined to be a support character, incidentally. Levelling WHM will help you there because it will give you a leg up on raising Healing skill, which is critical to the success of a Paladin.
