  • Why is this a bad idea???

    WHM / MNK

Okay, in terms of an ideal party, the White Mage shouldn't attack and doesn't really need that much HP. But I want to change my main job to BeastMaster later on and have white mage as my subjob. Can someone tell me why picking monk as my subjob now is bad?? I don't want to be a WHM / BLM...... everybody else already does that.

I wish I knew. I played through with my monk until lvl 22 where i got a little bored, so I decided to experiment with a whm/mnk so I wouldn't have to lvl my subjob. Right off the bat I am having no difficulty soloing. There are some pretty good stat increases, too, including an extra two points on MND, which improves white magic. Being that the monk's evasion is especially high helps out quite a bit, too. The only drawack that I can see is that there is no increase in MP. Now my opinion might change as my lvls increase, because anyone can solo at the beginning lvls, so I guess I'll see how I do when I need to start partying, and having to stand back and cast rather than fight.

monk can be useful if you can use the power-ball-shooting ability. it is as fast as taunt so it's quite a nice tool to steal monsters and NMs. well. i don't know what level that is and also you'll get holy which is also super fast with wilder range. apart from this i see no good thing a /mnk can offer for whm

/blm you not only get desion and mp boosts. for solo kill you get drain and aspil, and escape later on. you also get sleep. which are all super useful tool for magic users and can a lot of time be a life saver.

WHM/MNK the first reason I would think that is a bad idea is this, there is a serious LACK of mages in the game. Too many people do not wish to play the noble mage in lieu of the glorious fighter I suppose. That being said, often times as a WHM I have to play a little BLM during battles in PTs. If you have chosen MNK for subjob, you obviously cannot do this. This makes you less useful to the PT. And being less useful will mean you get less requests to play. Since the vast vast majority of the players are native JP, you have to be the best player you can be so they will not want to throw you out for being an unwashed American^^.

By being WHM/MNK you will have a HP bonus you do not need and added strength you do not need. And you will be significantly less versitile to the PT.

Just out of curiosity... how does a Tarutaru WHM/BST sound to all you experienced players? Looking at the stat calculator (which probably isn't 100% accurate) you'd still have a lot more natural MP than a Hume WHM/BLM, though I doubt the pet would be too usefull at half your level. And you'd have to worry about re-taming it... eh I think I answered my own question.

As others have said, no. You're going to want SUM for the MP boost or BLK for the special spells such as de-zone @ lvl 34/17. Also, the pet would be useless and drain 30% of the EXP, so it would not work.
