  • Overabundance of Whitemages?

I know that Whitemage is the most needed job for a party but are there a lot of Whitemages wandering around or are there too few?
    I dunno! I don't know either! Well i don't know. We're so, stupid!
Blue sky, white clouds, clean aiiiiiir! Mountain roads are so unfair, the pavement is bare. Even if you run with all your might you're never gonna catch up to a car Doo Daa!

I can ALWAYS get a PT with my whm... Just like BLM and RDM and BRD, there is only one of each of that type of class... BLM and RDM are interchangeable really... But still, WHM and RDM's are really usefull ^^ So is the BRD... BLM is just a plus ^_-

There will never be an over abundance of White Mages. You can have millions of fighting classes, such as Warrior, Dragoon, Ninja, etc. But the only jobs that are good at healing would be White Mage, or a Mage class with a White Mage subjob. Every party needs a healer, or else they will be resting after every fight and not fighting to the party's full potential. You normally only need 1 healer per group, and I guarantee there will be more fighting jobs out there than there are White Mages. The White Mages will be dispersed into all of these different party's. So if you have a large amount of fighter types and a large amount of white mages, they will group with each other, but anyways, I'm not making much sense, but trust me, there will never be too many White Mages. :p

Yea i did a search during the peak hours(of the Cactuar Beta) when there was 380 people on. I think for the world search i got 40-44 White Mage or something. There are over 100 Warriors, 90+ Monks, 30-35 RDM, 25-30 BLM, 50-60 THF. Im pretty sure about the WHM, WAR, MNK, i just guesstimated the others.

Judging by the amount of PT invites I got as a whm (especially as I got to a higher level) I would say there are not enough. I don't like putting up anon but I started doing that whenever I was ungrouped, just because I felt uncomfortable responding to PT questions (JP).
Still trying to play way too much...

Right now, white mage would be the first thing you look for to make a party, and it looks like there are never enough white mages. But that might change soon. I was checking message board on POL and found this

              <quote>
In connection with "the problem of a jam in Jeuno", we are considering of "increase of healers".

As things are stand, many players form party at the place where people gather (ex. Jeuno) and head to camp location. It would be great if you could form party right away, however, if you couldn't you would have to waste your time and stay in one place until you form party. We understand that this is the one of the reasons why Jueno is always crowded.

An ideal party has well-balanced healers and attackers. We understand that the reason why players are not able to form party is that the lack of healers such as white mage or red mage.

To improve this situation, we are considering of "adding potential MP". With this, when you choose a job with MP as a support job, potential MP of main job will be add to your main job which originally doesn't have MP. This way, you'll have more chance to heal you HP.

They were also talking about adding ability to carbuncle and light elemental, adjustment for cure3, 4 and 5, and make it easier to get raise2.
I had 4 melees and a rdm (with refresh) and a smn instead of whm yesterday, and we made 4000 exp per hour. I think whm will still be ideal job to have in your party, but it's totally doable without whm, and with the potential MP, it will be easier to form party without whm.

The potential MP idea sounds weird. They've pretty much sorted out how support job works, and I wouldn't go messing with it now.

If they want to increase the number of healers, why don't they give extra healing abilities (not MP-based) to monks and paladins? Or have a new class like temple knight.

There should be more curing potential in the melee classes as they stand right now, without messing with the support job system.

I don't see any problem with raise 2.... without these harder-to-earn magics the game wouldn't be fun really.
I feel I WANT to level up WHM just to use my raise 2... if it's a common spell you can kill a rabbit and get it, I won't be excited to use it and might even lost interest in playing WHM at all.

Actually, tho, I've obtained 3 raise 2 myself and sold 2 of them .... keeping 1 for myself. The journey to obtain this spell requires team work, which is the fun part of the game.

as far as the game goes, WHM will always be welcome to PT. no other jobs can cure as much status as WHM, and travelling to good hunting place would be real pain without WHM's teleport spells.
of course the "healer" role can be performed by summoners and redmages, there's still a huge advantage worth enough to pick WHM over any mages.

You may see more white mages now since many players want to become summoners. And white Mage is the only suitable sub for summoner job. So you may have new super improve white mages if they pick Sum/White Mage or White mage/Summ.

Combine a good WHM with raise, bar'spells, teleport spells, status cures, etc. with the nice bonus spells of a BLM such as dezone etc. and That would make it very useful in any pt.

                        overabundance of w mages?

                        NO way!

well... just a comment on that...

of course the best healers in te game are pure wh mages with a good sub.

                        and

the best parties ive ever partaken in were ones with 2 pure wh mages out of 6 members. yup... so one can rest while the other heals, then switch. chaining is sooo easy like that.. as long as you have a b mage or summoner and tanks.

that being said, even if wh mages represented 33.3% of the entire population of the gaming world, we'd still be sitting pretty...

and lord knows that would NEVER happen.

I just have a question... Why do some write that a whm can't solo after level 10?
Because I really want to be one, but if it is impossible to solo after level 10 then I’ll choose a rdm or blm instead.

I'm 11 and I can still solo fine, just have to know your limits and be really picky about what you fight.

After level 12 it gets kinda hard to solo with any job, not just WHM. But you could solo WHM up till 12 if you wanted to.
