  • Warrior Gear and Martial Axe (Wall of Text)

I had my account stolen end of February and got it back in late March early Aprilish. All of my good gear that I had was stolen and most likely sold. I think everthing on the below list except my AF and my Great Axe were stolen. At that time i was lvl 69 and my gear consisted of:

    Head: Sipahi Turban
Weapon: Demon's Axe (Name might not be correct but it's the Greataxe with +6 STR), I had some axes too but they were taken so i forget what they were.
    Earring: Fowling + Assault Earrings
    Body: Haubergeon
    Hands: Enky's Brc.
    Legs: Sipahi Shorts
    Feet: AF
    Rings: Garrolous + Sun Rings
    Neck: Chivalrous Chain
    Waist: Potent Belt

When I got back in April I farmed back the majority of my gear which took maybe 2 weeks, Partied to 72, and then i took a break from the game at the beginning of May and just came back end of last month. At the moment i have a little bit better gear since the prices had dropped around the time I got my account back to the point where Hauberk was cheaper than my stolen Haubergeon.

I am now a lvl 71WAR lol I deleveled when a few of my linkshell members and I tried to fight Aquarius and failed.

    My Current Gear consists of:

    Head: Sipahi Turban/Wivre Mask
Weapon: Rune Chopper/Demon's Axe (Axe: Martial Axe + Woodville's when I buy it
    Ammo: Bomb Core
    Earring: Fowling, Fang
    Body: Hauberk
Hands: Pallas' Brc. (WS), Dusk Gloves
    Legs: Exorcist Hose
Feet: AF (Probably going to buy Dusk Boots next)
    Rings: Sun/Garrolous (WS) and 2x Woodman's Rings
    Neck: Chivalrous Chain
    Waist: Potent Belt/Warwolf Belt

I would really like Martial Bhuj since I try to /SAM alot, but since its 900-1mil on my server, I might just skip out on it and try to get my LS to go after Rampager in ODS.

    Couple of random questions:

I see most WAR that /NIN Dual Wield Maneater and Woodville's Axe, I was wondering would it be alright to main Martial Axe and sub Woodville's since I can't use Maneater until 73?

Since the Martial Axe gives adds the effect of 100TP when you get 100TP and in theory it should do pretty good damage and not too harsh delay, why don't warriors use this main hand and Maneater or Woodville's Axe as a backup?

I thought I read somewhere (Probably Allah so it may not be true) that you get the effect of Maneater even if its not in the main hand which i hope is true :D

Lastly how's my gear look so far. Probably going to update it again within the next few weeks if everything goes as planned. Since I came back a 2 weeks ago, I've made altogether about 1.7 Mil just farming and crafting most I've ever had at one time was about 600k so now at 1.1 Mil i'm pretty happy at least until I have to spend it all on gear lol.

    Maneater hiddens work while offhanded.

martial axe isn't worth it because 100% extra tp doesn't help Rampage enough.

Since you're using Rampage or Raging Rush, you want acc gear MORE, not less. Don't swap out +10 acc for +6 or 7 STR. That 5% higher hit rate will outperform the +1-2 damage/swing the STR will offer (just looking at the rings, here).

Also, Martial Bhuj = worthless 'til you have Steel Cyclone. At which point you can go ahead and macro all that STR gear back in for it (and even then, you'll only use Steel Cyclone if you have a Bhuj or if you're fighting something really big).

While it sucks that you got hacked, at least it's a good thing you got it back and are on your feet. While I can't give you any definative answers on which gear is best I can give advice and compare what I use.

First off is the Martial Axe vs Woodsville, and the simple answer is that Rampage doesn't really get too much stronger with more TP while the Woody has better DPS and the +5 Str.

As for overall gear, this is what I use at 74. It's not the best, but I'm cheap so this is what I ended up with.

Head: Voyager sallet or Panther Mask and will get the Walmart Turban at 75
      Weapon: Maneater or Perdue Gaxe
Sub: Woody or Mythril Grip+1 or Pole Strap
      Body: Haubergeon
Hands: Spiked Fingers/Dusk Gloves with AF for WS
Legs: Thick Breeches (DW) or Barone (Gaxe). May get some 4th Breeches though
      Feet: Amir boots
      Neck: Chiv Chain
      Back Psilos Mantle
      Earrings: Fang/Storm
Rings: Woods/Ulthalam's (don't have Str rings for WS because, as pointed out Acc helps more)
Waist: Potent Belt (god damned crappy swift belt won't drop!)

Pretty much a lot of "free" gear (amir, potent, chiv, V sallet, Perdue, Storm, Ulths) and the rest is just basic War stuff. For regular mobs you can't get better then the Perdue Gaxe, but it's not exactly easy for someone just coming back to get. But it's certainly worth working towards. But at 71 I was using a 4th Toporak and seemed to do well with it, but that was just a "bridge" weapon if anything and not really needed. And as far as Rampage is concerned, Acc > all. Str gear for WS works on one hits (Steel Cyclone) but Multi-hits are best when all hits connect.

Martial Axe is okay as a cheap placeholder until you can get up there but try to get something better ASAP. The "TP Bonus" will only apply to the 1st hit of rampage, in which case you're better off with a retributor for the +6% critical.

Every melee needs to get an O-hat. I don't care what anyone says, but as sub nin, you will benefit a lot from using an O-hat, at least until you hit 75 and have decent merits on your melee job of interest.

People just need to get out of the mentality of "I'm gonna use sipahi until 75 turban!"

Gah! I forgot to mention I got Steel Cyclone not too long after I came back. So I have it now, that's partially why I was looking at the Martial Bhuj seeing how people talked about damage done with it as /THF SATA or as /SAM.

Yeah, looking at what you just said about it only working on the first hit, my theory wont work well lol. So I'll look into the Retributor.

It's not as hard as people say it is. All you really need is a healer, 2 tanks, and a reliable stunner. Just ask your friends if they can help. I believe I did my O-hat run with 5 people, me as black mage.

I am wondering, is that level 71 Axe from WotG Campaign AN points okay temporary, before Maneater? Well... I disliked WAR/NIN dual Axe until my WAR hit level 75... and finally believe WAR/NIN rocks... Orz. I /SAM, /THF, even /DNC and Great Axe my way, and now I am also looking for ways to cap my Axe and find gear for Axe.

                      /off-topic + hijack
With 2-handed weapon + Raging Rush adjustment, how is it compare to Axe, even if the WAR/NIN is using G.Axe?

There's a better (and mostly cheap-ish) Axe in Iron Ram Pick.

actually, after looking at the stats, it seems the IR pick is even better then the Woody. If that's true, I may be able to get some cash from trading in mine. Any opinions on if one is clearly better then the other, or should I just keep my wood?

I'm currently doing main hand Maneater, offhand IR Pick. Well, that's what I moved to but I've yet to actually dual wield the combo (I typically use GA even when /nin -- I think that does something to answer someone's previous question about GA's performance post updates).

The maneater is still the better of the 2, but not by much (DPS 10.65 with +18 attack/+5 acc vs DPS 10.52 with +10 attack). And a jugger offhand would probably be nifty, but what's the point? 30k vs 2 mil.
