I don't have much knowledge about war/mnk tanking, but on the flea thing...
I've heard that the big mammoth type mobs spawn fleas as you fight them, I've also heard that a blm using ~ga spells can either one shot kill the fleas, or get them in two spells. There was a thread about it on Allakhazam awhile ago, but basically they were saying that they the mammoth spawned about 6 fleas (which they killed) so by the time they finished the mammoth off they got chain 7 just from the fleas.

I don't remember the particulars, I suspect sleep was involved in some way, but I don't remember.
