  • Why do people be warriors if there not prepared to tank?

Was levelling my Theif from 11 in the dunes with mnk as sub. I joined a party which consisted of warrior, black mage, white mage, sam, red mage and myself as theif.

The warriror refused to tank even though he was a level above everyone else, he had all +1 gear and bee spatha+1. I ended up having to tank as a theif (I mean WTF) It was lucky we had some good mages who healed and conserved MP well. The mobs did start to go for the mages at points and the warior wouldn't cast provoke, everyone shouted and he jut ignored us! I had to do a ranged attack to try and pull hate from the mob to keep it away from the mages.

What is the point of being a warrior if you refuse to tank and don't protect mages by casting provoke? I think this could well have been a "brought"character as all gear was +1 and he had no clue he just wanted to swing his sword and ignore everything else. Instead myself and the sam had to go out and pull mobs for the party.

Has anyone had this before? Typically he got to his next level and imediately logged, so just summed him up. After that we aquired a very good warrior and all levelled up before I had to log due to being called out (if you look at my profile you'll know what I mean.

To quote Tsikuro about a similar thread about people not doing their jobs over on the RDM board...

So, he was using a 1h sword, not even an axe or great axe, and refused to even voke off of mages.
      Q. Why did he refuse to tank?
      A. Because he sucks, has no clue what he's doing and could possibly have bought his character (probably just a lowbie who buys gil since I doubt people who buy chars want to level low-level jobs).
Well done even attempting to tank with a thf/mnk. W/o voke I'm not even sure how you did it.

Sit back, relax, you'll run into these kind of players all the way to 75.
        good time to start meditating.

Re: Why do people be warriors if there not prepared to tank?

Very true Jei. The bad players aren't just low level my friend. In fact, one of the worst tanks I have ever pt with was level 66. This ninja was wearing full arhat's gear and even with SATA on him he couldn't keep hate off my normal punches. It got so bad I wouldn't even use focus, berserk or boost and he still couldn't keep hate. Eventually I ended up dying because our brilliant THF (who was nearly as bad as him) pulled a gobbue and the ninja basically ended up letting me tank the damn thing as mnk/war. I told him how I felt and he and his BLM g/f warped out with her whining about how she "felt like crying."

I honestly don't see how these ppl make it that far in the game with no skill whatsoever but they do. I think that I tend to only notice the tanks and mages that are this gimp as a gimp DD usually doesn't effect the pt so dramatically. Also, I think gimp DD are less likely to get future invites from pt members if they are seen as gimp.

              there are a lot that PT members can cover up @_@;
I met a similar ninja taru while I level my smn too.
I saw him casting ninjutsu and provoke all right.
But for some reason he couldn't hold hate at all. and I mean AT ALL.
I casted cure 2 and the mob ran straight to me. yikes.
At least he provoked so... dunno, didn't have much chance to monitor him lol but he got really well known about this.

Even so, with Blm stunning, war backup provoking, whm keeping ppl alive and etc the PT can still kinda hold togather.
              even tho at the end most people were so disappointed about the hate issue @@;

Eh, well now you're just talking about bad players in general.
There's always bound to be some of those.

The other side of this is the ignorant n00b.
Like a Tarutaru NIN at lv15 without Utsusemi that inssists on tanking.

I think later on the WARs prefer to be DD if I remeber correctly. Was it WAR/NIN with Rampage? or something like that?

I know he is referring to the lower levels, but I just happen to remeber NINs and PLDs were pretty much the only tanks later on. . .

                      Yeah, WAR is a DD.
I can't believe you have a 75 job and seem uncertain about that XD.

Two WARs can tank easy, though, especially at 74.
In fact, at 74, I'd say WAR is better than NIN, just because of their ability to keep hate easily. Put on that AF for all the Enmity+ and, on top of that, the ammount of hate you get just from (arguably) being the best DoT in FFXI... well, it makes for a pretty good tank. Too bad Utsusemi: Ni is slightly gimped on /NIN

I held up ok, because I had good healing support from a lvl 12 whm and blm had whm subed so could do backup healing with cures if needed, being a taru too she had a good amount of mp. I had the best gear I could get my hands on at that level thats not +1 (I ain't that rich!!) weapon was Bronze knuckles, had a H2h lvl of 48 from lvling mnk to 14 so that helped as I was max stat in this as well as guard. I also was eating Meat mithkabobs, and had a short bow with bone arrows to grab mobs with and also used a ranged attack to try pull hate off the mages if the mob went for them, didn't work all the time, but took some hate away from the mages. I also used steel every 5 minutes I could as this grabbed a bit of hate. I should be a lot stronger at lvl 14 as from my 26 war I have 2 courage rings which will help my attacks, also as mnk was subbed I used boost as often as possible and combod when I could. The reason he didn't get kicked was he was a member of the leaders Linkshell and as she said, she thought it was her duty to "help him out" I think she will, consider requests more closely now. He also had no sub job so oviously was a noob. Peed me off when he was shouting grab the next one, and we'd tell him were waiting for mages to heal mp, he was really impatient and was testing my patients!!!

On 3 occasions we had to zone due to mobs linking and he was the first to run away, I kept hate as best as possible and died twice to save the others (I am used to tanking with warrior and monk so is kinda second nature to be last to zone.)

Well see if hes lurking in the dunes tonight as I'll be hopefully levelling unless called out.

i know plenty of people who refuse to tank in dunes as war. this is because n00b mages and other members, and they dont want to die.

pretty stupid if you ask me, but then again, when i lvled any job through there with /war, i was asked to tank.. i hate dunes. dont go through there without a PL anymore

war is good tank until 40ish, expecially with defender. reason being pld dont get flash and nin get utsu: ni and elemental ni's until 37. ele ni's at 40

as for n00bs going to 75, gotta love those blms @50-75 who sub smn so they dont have to heal, when the only other mp in pt is rdm.

i had a taru nin that wouldnt let me fuidama onto him. he would stand just far enough away so that he could melee but if i got behind him, i would be out of range.

basically, people just dont want to die. if you are a war pre lv. 40, you are pretty much meant to do anything the pt needs you to do. people are just selfish, stupid, ignorant, or all of the above.
