  • Wannabe PLD

Hey I just started a warrior as my second character (my first being an 11 MNK ) and was wondering if I should keep using my axe/shield combo all the way to 37. I am currently lvl 12 and at Valkrum Dunes and what I was planning was gettng all my subjob quest items, raise WAR to 18, switch to MNK, lvl that to 15 as MNK/WAR, then switch to WAR/MNK all the way to 30, and FINALLY go to my desired PLD/WAR. One of my linkshell said to go axe/shield all the way because I have no skill shield whatsoever. I am doing all this because I know people frown upon the fact that I have no subjob and can't be at my full potential.

I was also wondering what your WS lvl cap is to your job lvl, so I can max my GAxe skill, and if you suggest going GAxe, how do I raise my skill up without my party suffering my poor WS.

I am Galka, and have read all the equip guides and have managed to scrounge up enough cash to have pretty much up to date equips (although no +1 because they are damn expensive) and was wondering what sort of food is best early in the dunes. I bought a stack of Meat Mithkabobs (omg that took a huge chuck out of my money @ 15k a stack), I'm lucky crystals gof or 8k a stack here ^^).

    Thanks guys

A-rank weapon caps from 1-50: [(Level - 1) * 3] + 6, or (Level * 3) + 3 (same thing.) To skill up anything, simply fight mobs appropriate for your skill (i.e. if your skill is 0, whack on level 0/1 mobs, and move up as your skill goes up.)

Yes, you can do it, it's by no means gimp. Shielding is very valuable for tanking, as it can neglect large ammounts of damage in the long run.

Sell back the Meat Mithkabobs, buy Meat Jerky (130g each from NPCs.) You won't need Kabobs for a while.

First of all, I would do the axe shield and keep g. axe leveled. You can skill up g. axe outside of party in low level areas on things like worms (my favorite for skill ups). Then kill worms in Konschtat Highlands to get your skill to around 25-30. Then swap between g axe and axe/shield everytime you level so you can keep both capped up to 30. As for food, I would save myself from paying for mithkabobs at low levels and buy Meat Jerky from NPCs. Run just under 2k a stack I believe.

This is the best Wannabe PLD thread I've ever read!

Just using axe and subbing MNK, you're better than 90% of other beginners. You plan on using food? INCREDIBLE! You're my hero!

You'll do fine, and have fun with paladin.

i agree, you will do fine going this way

axe + shiled is a strong tank, you will have boost and provoke after sub job quest is done and doing your way till 30 war/mnk

you will have 2 hate tools and will do a good tanking job!

if you have a pld or nin tank you can switch to GAXE to have it skilled

            Re: Wannabe PLD

Thank you so much for your support and great ideas!

I have read up ALOT in the years leading up to me finally purchasing the game a few days ago, so I know most of the does and don'ts ^^. It's a site like this that I have kept up to date with all this time, that have made me such a good noob (some guys in the party have sworn I have played for a long time )

I am still figuring out macros, but thankfully:

            a) They aren't too important at my low level
            b) I can just steal someone elses from this site when I want one Thanks to some people I have good provoke, weapon skill and skill chain macros, making me that little bit extra better than someone who doesn't use them.

All I can say is this game is everything I had expected and more, and I can't wait to do the missions and some of the high level boss fights. Everyone I have encountered so far have been so kind, one guy even gave me 100k on my very first day and there was a high level PLD who got me ALL of my sub job quest items (and I didn't even ask him, he approached me about it!). All my parties too have been very kind and helpful and have yet to have a bad dunes party I hear so much about

Thanks again guys! I'm on Siren by the way with a character called Tancred (lvl 14+ WAR) if you want to party with or something. This may seem corny but seeing the vets being so kind to the baby players like me makes me want to join your ranks and be able to help people who need it.

            Cheers guys and girls

Dunes parties aren't as bad as they used to be cause most of the time now they are made up of veteran players just leveling a new job or leveling mules.
