on the map issue make sure you bought the maps available to you, oh and make sure you are doing the quests in bastok as well, decent source of income to new players and fame can make a big difference later on when you want to do more complex quests.
A good way to level fame and low level is go into Zeruhn mines and level from 1-7ish. While doing so some mobs will be dropping Zeruhn soot which can be turned in 3 at a time for a repeatable quest to a Galka just outside the mines entrance. That's how I raised enough fame to get my warp scroll for free.

Another good way, all be it expensive, is to trade stacks of Boyahda Moss or La Theine Cabbage to the NPC in Selbina. This is good because it raises both Bastok and San d'Oria fame, thus adding to Jeuno fame as well.

This is to everyone: Do you guys know why I miss so much when I'm fighting in a team? Just in case my equipment has anything to do with it, I'll tell you everything I got equipped. First I got the full scale armor set on, then I have a Great Axe, I also have a dog collar, an empress band, and the starter ring on. I'm level 13 right now, and what I seem to miss hitting the most is Veteran, Onyx, and Greater Quadavs (sp?). Is there any way I can up my accuracy? And if so can you tell me where I can obtain the item that'll help?
First of all, is your G. Axe skill capped? A low skill in the weapon class you are using will make your accuracy low. Also, at level 14 you can get some dex rings to try and improve your accuracy. If memory serves me correctly, you should be able to by the NQ dex rings in either the goldsmithing guild or jewelry shop in Bastok Markets.
My great axe skills is level 40, and I just checked the goldsmithing guild house for that ring and couldn't find it; so that only leaves the possibility of the jewelry shop.
A new question just popped up in my head so I thought I'd post it. And here it is: I'm currently level 15 and I'm starting to feel as if though my Scale Mail isn't doing it's part, is there another armor I can use at my level that'll help a bit more? I got about 18,000 gil to spare right now, so don't worry about the price.
Mm...I don't feel DEX will improve your accuracy by a tangible ammount. I always go with STR rings. Plus, if he's using Shield Break, that's Evasion -40 for the mob right there...but to each his own ^^
Yes, Scale is starting to grow outdated. At 16 you can shift to the Bone Harness set, or wait 'til 17 and get Lizard armor. Lizard has a few more points of defense on the whole set.

PS. Lizard and Bone sets are crafted only. So in order to get your hands on them you either need to get someone to craft them for you or skill up crafting yourself.

Yeah, I had to realize that the hard way because no stores I went to sold them so I was stuck spending 4-6k for each piece at the AH. =/ Though I've spotted some better armors to buy, and rings, and earrings, and belts, and capes. It's insane thinking that someone at my level would have enough gil to buy one of those items, let alone all of them. Take the strength rings for example, they cost 15k each. How am I supposed to muster up all this gil?
Oh, and I cant get the Moth Axe because they're sold out at the ah, plus they were selling for 17k....
Edit: I've run into a new brick wall... I just realized that I'm going to have to choose a sub-job at the next level (18). Does that mean I'm going to have to sell all my armor and buy the armor appropriate for the sub-class? Will I still have my health and skills? Will I still use the same weapon as I am with my warrior? Oh and what sub-job should I choose? I'm planning on becoming a DRK as soon as I hit 30, so if you guys would recommend one that would benefit that class it'd help. (I know I asked the last question in my first post, but I personally didn’t understand your responses that well.)
