Well time to add my two cents. It's important for a WAR to keep most of their weapons leveled (save Staves/Clubs) for Experience point parties. Why do I say this? Cause parties change every time and your WAR may be asked to preform multiple duties. I've had parties where I was asked to use Great Sword because...in the party we had, there was no Distortion opener. NIN, WAR, THF, RDM, BLM, WHM. I had to open Distortion (sure the NIN coulda, but the NIN was really slow TP wise due to Ninjutsu casting). From level 10-60, most people expect Distortion. Neither Axe nor Great Axe can ever open Distortion, so if you are stuck in a PT with a THF and a PLD, as well as the standard 3 mage set up, expect to either have a pissy BLM or an angry thief. The more weapons you have leveled/available, the more appealing you are to the PT.
