I agree about using axe/shield combo or GA, I used as i lvled war to 30, then lvled pld with sword at lvl one on. I had np lvling my skill with it and now I'm at 31 pld and sword is capped just by pting. BUT, imo people should play their characters the way they want. I personally hate axes in any game. I prefer sword or GS over all others. Again, just my opinion.

lol i only leveld war as sup so this is not what i know most about, but one thing i have been thinking since i started the game. (And im totally not pointing this to anyone here so dont get me wrong) As a noob to FF there is ALOT to learn. Omg just easy stuff like using TP can be hard to understand. And when you come to dunes, you actually have no idea whats gonna happend- And i have heard people on my LS telling how angry they feel on the noobs how just mess up all the time. But why dont they send a /tell and say what dey should do? i know i wishd someone would explain stuff to me when i got to dunes first time. And its like all stuff in the game, why do so few people explain whats wrong or what you should do? And again this is not to be rude to the people starting this theard on any way. I just have been thinking alot about it. And i know some people just dont wanna listen to more experienced players, but hell i know id been glad if i got some help now and then^^

As a "n00b" warrior who uses a sword and shield, I have to say. Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe some people aren't interested in using the absolute best weaponry for leveling or hitting the highest possible DPS? Some of us might just be playing the game to have fun, rather than competing to have the highest stats. I like the way my character looks with a sword and a shield and I have fun playing. So give us "n00bs" a break.

If you arent at least trying to perform the best as you can in my party then why are you in my party? The only time i accept Sword is for Burning/Red Lotus blade because if you PT with MNKs, its easier to skillchain with them. You can have fun with a Sword, but seriously...i am not having fun if my WAR i expected to do awesome dmg with an Axe/GAxe came with a Sword and hit just above a PLD's power..>_>;

Its about the party too, not just yourself.

One thing that helped me tremendously was reading material about the game before I started to play. I know it sounds obvious, but reading alot of different sources can actually help you to understand once you do start playing. Also, the hell with people who complain about noobs in the Dunes. Everyone is just starting to learn their jobs so cut them some slack. After the Dunes however, there is no excuse for not knowing your job. Also, in parties I will always explain what someone needs to do if they are unsure or I will help outside of parties as well. It's just when they refuse to listen is what really irriatates me.

So? The sword is level 1 so why not just go out and kill 100 monsters while you bring up your WAR to level 3 or 4?

The reason why is that the delay on that damn sword is just hell. So a Lv.1 WAR could actually be killed by a decent due to how slow the damn thing is, and having a Lv.0 Skill. The key to this quest is to be able to pull 5 or 6 Too Weaks and keep the sword drawn. Because once you put it away, it could be 5 minutes before you can draw it again. (Man I hated this quest! And I hated upgrading the sword. I won't even go into it!)

But what gets me is you see Zeid with a Great Sword in all the cutscenes, you need one to unlock the job, yet our A+ weapon is Scythe, and our AF1 is Scythe. Then from Lv.66 to end game we use Great Sword nearly 95% of the time. Spinning Slash FTW!!

Actually the Chaos Bringer has the same damage output as an Onion Dagger but with the delay of 666, meaning your attacks take 3 times as long to make, (i forgot Onion Dagger's actual delay but this is assuming it's 222) ie you can kill crap 3x faster with a dagger than this Great Sword. if you think leveling thf with dagger is bad, try leveling war from 1 with the Chaos Bringer.

however i did level to 5 as war with the Chaos Bringer, having to pick on EP-- or die. i felt like tossing it right after i unlocked the job but i heard it can be "upgraded" but aparrently, that's about as fun.

plus it's not the "sword" skill it uses, it's Great Sword skill, which is as independent from each other as katana, great katana, throwing, dagger, marksmanship, archery, axe, great axe etc

you can, if you remember that if you use a weapon skill, the death doesn't count. doing this while leveling without a pl, will garuntee you won't be. ~.^

I just had to reply to this topic due to recent events while leveling ninja this weekend. In two pts out of three we ended up with a 50WAR/24SAM who was a 51WAR/24SAM in the 2nd pt. This WAR/SAM used a great sword when we were all expecting a war to come equipped with dual axes or great axe.

If you don't think the difference in weapon skill grade is noticable you are flat out wrong. This guy was geared VERY well and couldn't even keep hate long enough as first voke for the THF to get SATA off on me. That's right- NIN/WAR was ripping hate from him within 6 seconds of his voke with normal katana swings.....

Both PTs broke up shortly after he joined. Hell, in the second PT the JP RDM (who rocked btw) warped in the middle of a fight <Time for Lunch!> yeah right). We all knew why that RDM left. That WAR is now blisted by me and I will never pt with him again.

I understand that we all pay to play and we should be able to play how we like but if you are in a party working as a group you HAVE to be willing to do what is best for the group. If a warrior post-dunes joins my PT and refuses to use Axe or Great Axe he will soon find himself NOT in my party.....

axes and greataxes suck bad before 55 and i found myself using greatsword from a low lvl to like 55ish due to powerslash->viperbite
also, him losing hate is probably due to the fact that he wants to skill gsword in the PT :x

You cannot be more wrong, if i want GSword, i am getting a DRK over a WAR. Try getting a DRK and WAR team for Shadow of Death => Sturmwind, thats uber in damage. THFs are good and all, but you dont HAVE to party with them, DRKs and SAMs with Hobaku are WAR good friends at those levels. Dont forget Axes which can close Fusion with SAMs and RNGs as well as close distortion.

GAxe Sturmwind IMO outdamages almost all WS at those levels and puts WAR near the top around the lower levels no question.

does anyone notice that everyone on the thread is saying the samething but arguing lmao. I want this ws cuz of this sc but i hate that weapon even tho it does good sc. War is versitile people and if you havent noticed on your servers no to players play any job the same way so why is it a big deal if someone doesnt use the weapon YOU want you say its all about the party but its not the whole pt complaing or they would leave right? So you just think that your right and they are wrong. War can use almost any weapon so why tell them they are wrong for taking advantage if they werent suppose to use a weapon the it wouldnt be on the combat skills list for war. Just relax and worry about your job on the game people not someone else if they dding or tanking good then why change what they are good at so you can feel better.


and the big point was about taru plds which almost every person here missed. Taru plds rock they have the ability to keep hate alot better then most plds due to them taking slightly more damage and with the higher mp it saves ne one from getting hit tho in dunes they really dont show as well as they truely are, due to being a low level or not having proper gears.

oh and ghetto plds are one of the "only in the dunes" comments that you should enjoy and laugh about not freak out. And wouldnt a war/whm with a sword and shield basically be learning a bit more about pld, and then be better off as a pld down the road.

No dude, you dont' understand. It wasn't because he was skilling G-sword. He didn't have an axe or a great axe. His Power Slash was usually only hitting about 150-200 or so. Not very impressive when you consider his normal attacks coming once a century >.<

You use the weapon that you have the highest skill in. That way, you learn weaponskills earlier, and you also have a higher accuracy and damage rating with that weapon. The higher your skill is, the more damage you do, and the higher your attack is.

WAR/WHM sucks in the dunes because your defense and HP take a hit. Not to mention you don't have any base MP to start with. Not to mention that you tank as WAR in the dunes, which WAR/WHM gives you not as near as much VIT and DEF as WAR/MNK. Not to mention, it'll be harder for you to hold hate as WAR/WHM over WAR/MNK because your damage output won't be as high.

WAR/WHM, you might learn a bit about PLD/WAR as that, but you should be learning the job you will be playing, not the job you want to play. That's like a WHM only casting Banish because they're leveling their sub for BLM. Doesn't make much sense really.
