I used to b a level 37 war b4 i quited and now im level 15 war again and now there complaining that im useing a gs claymoree and i also have a buterfly axe they say i should use the axe but i hit alot harder with gs there skill is the exactly the same and the gs sumhows gives me extra def should i forget what they say and use Gs or wat

No duh your claymore does more damage, it's 5 levels above the butterfly axe. Upgrade your GA to Greataxe (http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/379) and you'll be doing much more than the Claymore.

and no, the Claymore does not give you extra defense.

Well no matter how it looks Great Sword won't give you extra defense. The reason why you're doing more damage with your Claymore is because the Claymore is a higher level weapon than your Butterfly Axe. If you look at the dmg, Claymore has a DMG of 22 and Butterfly Axe has a DMG of 19. If you upgrade your Great Axe to a Greataxe (level 12, 30 DMG) you'll see better results. Great Axes generally do better damage than great swords, and WAR have an A+ rating in them, meaning they will be more accurate and do more damage overall with Great Axe instead of Great Sword.

Having said that, play what you want. It doesn't matter much at that level. As long as you realize you're not doing the most damage you possibly can, if you can keep up the damage and play your role as a war as far as tanking and etc, then just don't worry about it. Keep in mind also you'll run into people who won't feel the same way and will criticize you for not using the best weapon for your job.

And they don't have same skill.

GS is a B I think, while G axe is A. It may not matter now, but the gap only gets wider as you go on, and being you just started again, you probably can't afford sushi yet to make up the difference.

As you start off Hardslash may seem like a good WS, over breaks...which is somewhat debatable, but all that changes when you get sturmwind. Though I'm a dual axe person myself.

kuu also has a good point. Though if you are just lvling WAR to 37, you won't see the skill differences that much.

no im leveling war to level 50 then i am going to bard then after taht im going to drk or bst so should i stay a gs person and btw i got power slash is that ne good

if you are taking WAR to 50, then I really, really recommend you ditch the greatsword and start using the greataxe + axe. there is nothing sadder than a WAR who doesn't have Axe+GA leveled.

I have a lvl 30 war and im currently lvling it and I've been using GS since I was lower lvl and havent touched a GA but Im considering switching to GA should I consider doing this or just stick with GS till 37?

if you are only doing it for sub (37 max), I'd say screw it and just finish off your levels with the GS. if you are remotely serious of going beyond 37, then yes, start leveling that GA.
