  • Skillchains for War Lv45

I am currently Lv45 and I dont really know which job is best suited for me to renkei. I prefer PTing with a THF but Axe or Gaxe cant start Distortion. I can use Polearm but it gimps my dmg/acc. So which ws and which other melee jobs did you usually PT with?

My WAR found it best to party with PLDs or SAMs. Anything that can make a Fire weapon skill or if you can, start distortion (but you said you party with THF so that's not an option). A SAM would compliment your tastes well (Tachi: Enpi -> Viper Bite for Thief, Tachi: Enpi -> Avalance Axe or Tachi: Kagero -> Shield break for you) and with proper Meditate usage, could actively keep both chains up.

Also Tachi: Kagero > Raging Axe = Fuison when you spend your times in Crawler's Nest fighting bugs.

But once you reach level 55 that changes, once you get Rampage you can end Distortion's with Rangers and Dragoons. =D

When I was partying with Warriors as Thief, they mainly Shield Break the mob solo. It helps a great deal when it lowers the mob's evasion in preparation for the skillchain + Magic Burst. To skillchain with a Thief however, you can if both of you are willing to play damage enhancers rather than Damage dealers since you won't be using the more powerful weaponskills available to you. Smash Axe > SATA Shadowstitch creates the often ignored Fragmentation but it does work very well on Bats as they are weak to both Dagger damage as well as Wind damage. And you can party in Garlaige Citadel for a bit. It also works decently on Crabs and fish type mobs too because it's also Thunder element. For the more popular Distortion skillchain, you can help form it around level 50. You can try the following if you have a third melee job... preferably a Ninja who can also get 100 TP about the same time as both of you: Keen Edge > Blade: Chi > SATA Viper Bite.

thx guys for your suggestions. I PT'd yesturday with a NIN THF and had them make distortion while i soloed raging axe. It worked out really nice, we were getting around 6k/hr i think ^^. I noticed a HUGE difference in dmg output compared to when i was using Polearm. dualwielding axe owns ;x.

Getting a Drk, Sam or another War will allow you to do massive Fragmentation SCs no problem. Smash Axe > Sturmwind, Freeze/Frostbite > Sturmwind, Shadow of Death > Sturmwind ect. Pretty much anything that can have SA+Sturmwind close for Frag will cause massive dmg.

Pre 50ish, unless you have the best of the best gear, War/Thf with a Gaxe will out dmg a War/nin. I know this because I semi staticed with a War/thf and I had to go War/nin to open for him and his Dmg was much better then mine. Even soloing WS he was doing more dmg, and it wasn't the gear as we had similar, if not the same exact equips at the time.

Though on some mobs, like flies and beetles, frag isn't the best choice to use. But on crawlers, dhamels and spiders it was very effective, especially with the Aero MBs.

I suggest these sites... Aden's Renkei Chart and FFXI Skill Capture. With just these two sites you can easily see what weapon skills go with what and at what levels each job attain a particular weapon skill (assuming ppl cap their weapons every level) respectively.

As a further treats, I present you with Weapon Skills Descriptions and The Art of War. "Weapon Skills Descriptions" is just that. It describes what each weapon skill does. "The Art of War" is an explanation of skillchains as taken from PlayOnline's Vana'diel Tribune (you can read that link too as a third treat). ^^

                    Re: Skillchains for War Lv45

ditto the /thf Fragmentation. It's not too late to start using it. Even though war/nin catches up @48/50(opinion pending) I don't think there's a clear victor 'til 55 with Rampage. the war/nin + war/thf party works very well all the way to 55 in fact because smash axe always equalled my Avalanche axe damage and Spinning/Raging weren't that much better.

Also, the sad thing about spinning axe > raging fists is that it gives you exactly 6 levels to be monk compatible. As of 55, most would rather solo Rampage. Of course, in my case I think that SC would be ideal all the way to 59 (as if you could find stuff weak to fire ><). I've always had crappy luck with WS even with equal/better gear than others my level. Rampage put up great numbers for anything EM or lower, but for exp... opening with Spinning for a monk would still be a great option since what damage you lose, the SC would make up for and the MB would surpass.

I will say, however, that when I put on my haub @59, my average damage on Rampage went through the roof. I didn't expect it to -- in fact I had myself convinced that it wouldn't change anything. But going from 200-400 average on Raptors to 400-600 average is a big leap. Oh well, I have more theory on this I'd like to talk about and ask about, but that's not what this thread's for.... I've gotten lost again...

I am now Lv57 and i'm static with a JP thf that i started PTing with since 43. We usually invite a ninja as tank and i let the nin + thf renkei and i solo rampage, it rox . I'm really starting to really enjoy playing war, kinda brings back memories of playing rng.
