    Re: War/Thf at lower levels

War/Thf HORRIBLE at low levels. You have no bonus. War/Mnk soo much better. Attack bonus, Boost. War/Nin after 24. You could go War/Thf for SA after 30. But, I don't really agree. I'd rather stay War/Nin 'till 75.

      Re: War/Thf at lower levels

War/nin kinda sucks from 30-43 cause the axes of those lvls and the WS aren't that good. You could be closing a Frag SC with SA Sturm for nearly 500 DMG each time with War/Thf. At 43 you get access to CC+2 Axes, so with those your DoT for the next few lvls would be astounding, but you'd also need all your other gear to be top of the toppest notch availabe to out dmg a War/Thf. At 48 where Vikings come in, 50 with dual wield II and 55 with Rampage War/nin rises steadily as the superior combo. But with Raging Rush at 60 and Full break and Steel Cyclone just a few lvls away Warrior starts getting a lot of versitility.

A good war wil have Nin, Mnk, Thf and Sam all lvled to 37 and will change subs depending on the situation. Need a tank? go War/Mnk. Need a back up tank/DD? go War/nin. Need a SC closer? can't get better then War/Thf. Want to spam WS like no tomorrow? No prob, you got sam fully lvled and ready to go.

War is a versitile job, and thus you need multiple subs that can fit in any role. There is no good reason not to lvl all your subs. If you want to be the best Warrior you can be you have to have all your options open.

        Re: War/Thf at lower levels

If you don't want to sub monk, then don't. I like watching a monk in action, but i can't stand playing as one. My first character was war/whm till 30, not a choice many people do, for obvious reasons. But in my experience, as an elvaan, I saved my pt many a time, when the healer didn't do their job right. Or when we got a link. I don't know how other races would do with this, haven't tried it. But i wouldn't really recommend it to anyone, unless you really know what you are doing.

With my new character I leveled war/thf to 15. I am mithra now, so I don't play as main tank, mostly puller/light tank. I might do war/thf to 24, then war/nin the rest of the way.

Don't worry too much about what sub you have pre 30. If you play well and make up for what you may lack in certain areas, you'll do fine. And for Altana's sake, keep your sub leveled up, don't go trying to get into pt's as lvl 24 war/ 6 thf ,or whatever.

Actually i wouldnt let a WAR/THF even go close to main tanking..their hate skills are not that great without Boost at those levels...more HP from sj too.

            Re: War/Thf at lower levels

If you want to be the most effective war, sub monk. Boost in between vokes keeps hate extremely well, there will be few times where the mob will go to someone else. But the sad and honest truth is most war/mnk either
            A) Dont tank often (powerlevelers or plds and nins)
            or
            B) They dont use boost effectively

Keep in mind this is before 30. You probably will miss out on a lot of invites, but eventually you will get an invite (although most likely from a bad party, Dunes/Quifim remember) So time/effort wise I would say just sub thief. You will have a couple of bad experiences but that goes without saying. From Quifim->Kazam you probably will get noticably less invites but just hunker down and hope for the best. Your skill will determine how well you tank/DD

Yeah mnk does give you more to play with. I was leveling mnk just for the fun of it and decided to use it as a sub. It sure was fun having boost and all the other stats. If you want to be the best at tanking go with mnk, if you have no desire to level a job you'll only use as a sub then just go as thf. You won't be main tank, you'll be a light tank a hybrid thief/whatever, lol.

                Re: War/Thf at lower levels

I took WAR 10-15 in the dunes using THF sub, I was able to tank. And that's as a Tarutaru. Stats just aren't that differentiated at this level, and as long as you have good gear and spam provoke correctly, you should be fine. (I'm still WAR15, I'm actually contemplating trying something more exotic like WAR/RNG or WAR/DRG for the next 5 levels, though I'm still not sure how far I'm going to take it. Depends on how far I take NIN, how far I take THF and what subs I decide to use from here on, and whether I decide to go with DRK/WAR to 30 or to 60.)

There was an interesting thread a bit back on pre-30 subs for WAR, perhaps I'll look it up and edit a link in.

                  Re: War/Thf at lower levels

You can tank anything at the Dunes, even subless, the point is that how much better are you compared to a subless WAR tanking with THF sub? Not that much difference besides more HP. Boost is where its at, seriously.

                    Re: War/Thf at lower levels

Boost is where it's at! I haven't tanked as WAR in a very long time. I've fortunate enough to be a pure DD WAR for a long time. With a Taru PLD, my damage, and Boost can pull hate. So imagine doing that and Provoking ever 30 seconds.

I rather enjoy MNK. The idea of just punching something in the head appeals to me. (lol) What doesn't appeal to me is not being able to get parties of any kind.
