  • Haste+% Equipment?

I've heard from many career WARs that you're able to equip enough Haste+ and Double Attack boosters to make you attack nearly consecutively. Is there any truth to this? I'm level 57 now, and I'm thinking that equipping enough Haste+, dual wield enhancements, then having a mage haste me would not only let me attack more but give me a shorter recast time for Utsusemi, which also happens to be a problem when I have to tank, PLDs and NINs aren't exactly plentiful, even during JP primetime (which is when I happen to play).

Any help in this regard will be appreciated greatly.

The only pieces of Haste equipment I use are Byakko's Haidate and Suppanomimi. I have use no Double Attack enhancing items and have no merit points into it either (yet...) and I attack almost non-stop with Joyeuse in offhand and a mage's Haste on me. Add another 5% onto Double Attack merits, another 1.6% from Fighters Calligae and +9-10% Haste from Speed/Sonic Belt and Dusk Gloves/+1 and I would say it's more than possible to attack non-stop all the time.

Warrior's Cuisses' were purposely ommited as I don't know if having another chance for Double Hit to kick in if you fail the first "roll" is worth losing Haste+5% for as I don't yet have them to test.

      Long answer:

Rune Chopper + Yagudo Drink / Refresh + MP gear (Death/Hades Earring or Kirin's Osode most likely) + Byakko's Haidate + Haste + 2x March = great axe swung at sword speed. Utsusemi recast timers cut in half.

Ridill/Joyeuse + Suppanomimi + Byakko's Haidate + Haste + 2x March = WAR Hundred Fists. Utsu recast greatly cut, not quite in half but close.

Speed/Sonic Belt and Dusk set are incredibly overrated IMO, the nicest thing about them is they lower your reliance on 2x March to do stuff like this, but you can be losing a lot in those slots also (Speed/Sonic means no Warwolf/Lifebelt, Dusk means no AF/god set, etc.). On the other hand, some mobs make keeping songs up very hard (wyvern HNMs, turtle HNMs), so arguments for/against run in circles.

      Anyway short answer: yes.

I'm going to get dusk hands and feet (hq maybe?) for my war when it's up there, but that's for utsusemi macroing... dunno about meleeing with it heh. I'd rather use other stuff.

There have been several different parse results on just what 1% haste means to War (usually the Sarashi tests). I've seen 1% haste to vary in 2-7% dmg increase for war/nin.

Thing that has me wondering is there a Haste softcap similar to Atk, Acc, and Str softcaps?

In terms of haste cap the only theoretical one I've heard is the framerate's limit. If that is true then with a mage casting haste with a few of the right +Haste items should be more then enough to reach that, leaving quite a few areas to stick in "Double Attack" boosts.

The limit is 50%, you cannot reduce delay or spell recasts by more than half. Haste spell is 15% haste, double march is 20%, various pieces of gear are whatever they say they are. Sarashi is 1% increase to dual wield but no change in spell recasts, and is of very questionable worth over many more useful belts (Warwolf, Speed, Life, Sword belts).

I think a lot of WAR results showing Sarashi doing well are placebo effect, WAR is inherently a sort of random job because it relies on spike damage from Rampage to drive averages upwards; you have a lucky day on Rampages and anything will seem good.
