Taru War [end game]

What would be more ideal as a Taru war at lvl 75 "end game"
Going +Str, +Dex, or +Vit.

I was thinking that Taru War would more than likely be a DD instead of an actual tank, or possibly a backup tank if needed, mainly due to /nin.

I know there are many different builds for War also. Equip really isnt such a big worry for me, as I am already a 75 DRK with almost everything almost full Adaman (cursed), and near full God Suit, missing osode and kotes (:mad: steamcleaner). I was thinking to actually go all Dex as I also already have merit boosts to Critical Hit rates.

I've thought about going mainly for DEX also, mostly because of the new Copycat axe, the Retributor. Some confirmation on whether the +crit latent can be made permanent would be nice, but it's a thought.

As for DD or tanking, it is less what race you are IMO and more what your LS needs and what they'll give you the chance to do. For example, many LSes never give WAR a chance to tank regardless of race, it's not about being Taru or not. On DD it barely matters, WAR/THF, especially with your gear, is going to do well no matter what. On tanking, I think your main deficiency would be on Byakko and Seiryu, nothing else can really kill you instantly. There's a shell on Bismarck that uses Taru WAR/NIN to tank gods and some HNMs so yeah.

Going +VIT for WAR is on the whole not the most useful gesture...I don't go for +VIT much (I get about +30 tanking on top of IIRC +65 base, so it's an OK amount but not Koenig PLD insane or anything) and our other WAR does (he probably has like +25ish more than me on gear and is a Galka, so +7 over me naked) and we get hit for basically the same. So I'd definitely say go for DEX and STR more overall.

I mainly switch to VIT gear for steel cylone only since its a VIT based attack.. Overall i'd go for +double attack STR +crit hit

I'm thinking of blinging out DEX. Should be able to get +50 or more at 75. Then with merits into DEX, crit rate, double attack. Crit hit % merits + Retributor + Dissector = +18% critical rate. Too bad Apple Pie is gone and I can't ask him about DEX > crit chance details. ; ;

It's been a while since I posted wondering about Retributor, I've since gotten one and tried out a DEX/crit build. Retributor and +30ish DEX (Warwolf, Osode, Haidate) did pretty much exactly the same as Retributor and +55ish DEX, and actually the +55ish DEX build did a little worse because I was dropping STR and ATK in places to add in more DEX hoping for increased crits. The +DEX you get from Haidate/Osode/Warwolf/Hauberk without much effort is plenty to max out your crit rate when coupled with crit merits.

The Retributor is a decent axe but I really don't like the pickaxe delay. With 312axe/288axe your TP gain is noticeably slower than 288axe/288axe or axe+sword. If you use a Joyeuse or Ridill, your ideal is to have a Juggernaut or Woodsville's, so while Retributor is nice there's just not much room for it IMO with only two hands. I have a Juggernaut so by default I am always going to use that, I tend to favor Joyeuse/Seiryu's depending, I bring out Retributor for longer fights like say Charybdis/Amikiri/whatever but in short fights (like EXP pts) it's not optimal.
