  • Mentality of FFXI community?

While back I played a War/Nin (thats why I'm posting here). FFXI was a really fun game except for the maturity level of the community. I played EQ for 4 years before FFXI and the over all community was great. People were considerate, helpful, more mature, and not too greedy. With my experiance, the community on FFXI was much different. I know that the combat lock system sort of promotes "first come first serve" but I encountered what would be considered KS'ing in other MMO's. There are many other factors too, this is just an example.

Playin EQ2 now, which has a combat lock system, and the maturity and respect level of the game is still much higher than when I was on FFXI.

Vetrans, has the maturity level of FFXI increased from the NA release? FFXI is a great game but I quite because of the community

    Thanks much

Mm... FFXI has a huge amount of elitist-wannabe still as far as I can see, those that talk race > equip, because they have no skill at all.

Depend really what you define 'good community' is, my friend hated the FFXI's elitism, stupid exp > friends, lvl > friends, items > friends community... but then again, once in a while, I get in party, the exp sucked, but the people are fun to be with: partied with a WAR/PLD at 52, I mean wtf, but hell, he is funny, even though the BLM spammed ancient, the tank wasn't that great, exp was slow with lots of AFK, it was a fun enjoying party... =3

So, if you mean the elitist-wannabe, they are still here, and will not disappear til FFXI server is closed(most likely, idiots don't have ears). If you mean people that are fun to be with regardless of exp/item/etc, they are always around, just depend if you find them or not.

Elitists... ugh, if that's what you want to call 'em. I believe they really ruin the experience. Fanatics tend to do that.
Like at concerts, you happen to get the seat in front of the fanaitcs that are screaming "SHAKIRA! SHAKIRS SHAKIRA!" the whole friggin' time.

Yes... the last concert i went to was a Shakira concert, lol.

This game is geared towards a younger crowd than that of EQ. That's all I can say. I'm on Asura and usually when I party and the people are "weed smokaz yaaaa" I just either leave the party or block them out. I've also seen a few RP-LS's open up on Asura lately and those usually are the most mature of the bunch.

I also saw that when I was playing EQ2.The people were more mature and helpfull. The FFXI community is a bit childdish, but not all the people in the community is like that.I still wish that some people in the community would less focus on being no1 all the time and just enjoy the game.

When i played EQ2 Release, there was a huge i steal your mob now, it's all my mob. I quitted EQ2 after 2 Weeks, getting the mob stolen while i try to level. Not only that but the Interface of EQ2 is horrible too.

Umn, on my Server the Players are helpfull, even to totaly noobs. I think we have on our Server a nice helpfull Comunity, even among the JP.

I also played Asura. I think the game setup is great. I loved to be able to switch jobs around and everything but the people (some of them) were real hard to deal with. Efficiency is great when it takes ya time to level but if you dont have the optimal job setup you wont even get a group. some are understandable like brd/pld or something but the best part of the game is that you could "customize" your toon with jobs and such. There were also many times where I was getting set up to pull a mob, weaps drawn and everything and someone comes up and locks it. That's the hardest part for me. Maybe its just the server and definatly geared to younger people. wish they would set up a mature server, I'de be back then.

Its still installed on my HD so I may be asking for a world pass to Pandemonium some time

                  Thanks much

                    Asura blows best

I'm not too high level but the people around my level seem to hate the idea of trying something new to do. Everyone does the same BCNM 40 for cash and everyone crowds into the same place to level. I really can't speak for other servers but it probably ain't too different. Due to the current Economy Crisis, I don't know that it's an ideal time to come back but I'd say Asura's as good as anywhere. Heck, I'm bitter but I'm a nice guy if ya need anything.
hmmm that wasn't very encouraging. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

I'd say it's more of a "wrong place at the wrong time" situation. I played EQ for a little while and I found the community I was around to be terrible, many of the players there had no consideration for others, and above all they never really wanted to communicate with me, outside of telling me how I should play.

Of course, that's obviously not what the entire Everquest community is like, just like what you mentioned is probably a small percentage of the FFXI community. Through import days, beta, and the last year or so in North American release, I've only met an extremely small number of jerk players (in-game, not through various forums ).

The only complaint I have about today's in-game community is the casino garbage going around. /randoms completely spam Jeuno at times, and even some of the more respectable players have no idea that spamming their 3-4 line advertisements every 2 seconds bothers other players. Of course, it will tide over, as nearly everything does.

What is with that?? On Leviathan we have the same sort of thing, roll over 570 and win twice the amount you offer, blah blah. Someone was advertising it in Crawler's Nest the other day. -_-

Yeah, I totally agree with paipai... it's a matter of untimely luck. you must have just always had that bad luck and ran into bad situations and so forth. I was on asura this whole summer and i found the community very helpful. (even though i think midgardsormr tends to be more helpful but it's just bad luck i guess. and yes ffxi tends to be more appealing to the younger kids. esp. me lol cuz i'm only 15. ; but that's besides the point. I try to spice up the pt and they love it; it's just the matter of getting with the right ppl. at the right time. unfortunately for you. lunakat- ffxi wasn't very friendly to you. lol but i hope u find the game more exciting. good luck

The problem here isn't the community, it's that EQ was probably your first serious MMO. As a result, you judge every game you play on that basis.

My first MMO was DAoC, which was a spectacular game until the Devs screwed it up really bad. I played SB after that, which was entertaining for a month... then tried EQ and couldn't get anyone to respond to me when talking to them... no one. So basically, I think you got into EQ early, when the community was still building, so you found it favorable- where I tried it late, and couldn't get my foot in the door at all.

I tried AC2, then FFXI. I got into a great LS, then merged with another great LS, and I absolutely think the community is great in FFXI. We actually have a couple shells we get together with to do HNMs and God stuff together. My group of close friends made rank 10 together, finished all the ZMs together, killed Kirin together, and are working on CoP now.

My *biggest* complaint about the FFXI community is that there are too many crybabies. "I can't get a group!" or "That PT leader expected me to have erase!" or "Why doesn't anyone want a melee!" or "This game is full of elitists!" After an entire year, people still don't realize that FFXI is MMO to the bone, with emphasis on MULTIPLAYER. Your social skills > job > equipment > race > skills. You don't have to be a kiss-ass... but you have to be a decent person and respect others to get anywhere.

My second biggest complaint are the culture orphins... but they are mostly entertaining.

As far as being geared to younger people, I don't buy that at all. Getting anywhere in this game such missions, high level BCNMs, HNMs, etc, requires strict teamwork and dependability. People that cant function in a team environment are culled from the herd quickly. Don't judge an MMO by what happens around the starter cities... most people there are either just starting too, can't find a PT with the job they'd rather play, or are speed farming with a job that can get crystals.

                              Just... my humble opinion ^^.
