I'm pretty confuzed on what to do in this situation...I've heard so many different things, some people say evasion is stupid cause WAR's have low evade to start with, some say otherwise. Regardless I'm extremely confuzed on what I should be using. First off I'll post my DD gears (won't include weapon cause I havn't been thinking much about end game weaponry as armory)

now for tanking gear...far as I can understand am I suposed to just take off everything detrimental to my evasion and defence and swap it with something that gives bonuses? Like this?

I'm just totally lost on what one would use while tanking as a WAR. Do I go for evasion, VIT, STR, acc, what stats do I want to make this work?

Well, about DD. It's all up to the person for EXP. Some like ACC, some like STR, some like ATK...almost every WAR will tell you something different. I think DD is more about the player then what actually helps the best. Some people are comfortable enough with 10 acc, others are unhappy even with 50 ACC.

I'm personally fond of STR...currently sitting on +39 STR when EXPing with +24 ACC, getting double Minuet (though also fighting VT mobs. When fighting IT mobs, I switch out to things like Life Belt and R.G. Collar).

As far as tanking equip goes:

I have 3 sets of equip. Offensive, Deffensive, and Evasion. Each set is exactly as it sounds, built for it's exact purpose. No "little bit of this and a little bit of that." I don't like restricting myself to only one set, when several sets can make me do my job a lot easier.

When EXPing, I use Offensive. I kept deffensive on me before I got Ni since some things would take shadows down fast like Spiders. Ever since I got :ni though, I just leave deffense in my mog for inv room. This set is basically as I described above, built for STR. Haubergeon, STR rings, Amemit mantle+1, ect.

I don't use only deffensive often. Only when fighting a NM that will completely kill shadows. However, I'm normally able to keep shadows up to use Offensive the majority of the time. Still a smart set to keep on you though when shit hits the fan. Built mainly of AF, Genbu's Kabuto, Jelly Ring, B.Q. Ring, ect. I only have one piece of Koeing (hands), but AF2 is better for that slot. I'd use it though if I had it...but I have other things to focus on at the moment.

Evasion gear is only used on EP or under mobs that I know I can evade and I don't want the -25 Evasion from my offensive set up. Mainly only used so I don't burn through shihei because I like having money. I have +26 evasion in this set up, and can dodge low mobs easily. Switch to offensive when doing WS, then switching back to evasion. As far as dodging EXP mobs....well, I'm lucky if I dodge a mob that's flashed. :sweat: Don't build for it.

This is speaking of 59+ tanking with a BRD. Prior to that, WAR isn't as effective, so I wouldn't suggest doing it.

Notes about your DD gear:

Earrings: At 55 get a Spike Earring, Fangs are for newbies

Arms: don't forget your AF mufflers, they really shine for DD.

Feet: you'll never toss your AF boots


Notes about your tanking gear:

Earrings: I used Drone (AGI+3)x2, because EVA is ridiculous on XP mobs.

Body: Scorp harness is not such a good thing for war, you'll use your AF body at 60, until 75.

Rings: I used +VIT rings, but Phalanx Rings are ok too. Forget the snipers, the -def hurts.

Back: I used +VIT back too. Gaia Mantle+1 is nice, Rank 6 CP back is good too.

Generally, forget about +eva unless you're farming. Focus on DEF and VIT. If you're /NIN, use meat food, fish food if you're /mnk.

And please, never pop Defender, you'd lose hate too fast.

50-60 mobs are mostly easier to tank, though. Crabs. Gobs in Gustav. Even raptors are not so bad. I tanked a lot during that period. Warriors don't necessarily require a bard to tank. It helps, though



Scorpion Harness, (|No, thanks.|) For tanking, WAR AF or Byrnie. Having tried both, I prefer Byrnie. The ATK+20 is very noticeable when you're eating fish kabobs. And you're getting 25 HP, 3 VIT, 3 STR. You've got enough +Enmity from the rest of your AF. Adding to your damage is critical to speed up experience.

I use Spike Earrings, then the 63 ones that are similiar. You will rarely evade. I wouldn't concern yourself about -Evade or +Evade. Go for ACC, ATK, etc.

Life Belt might seem like a good choice. However, Master's Belt is a better idea. It's got defense, and also, 5 ATK.

As far as weapons... I'd stick to Viking Axes probably all the way. No joke. The accuracy from these will make up from what you'll lose from not having Haubergeon, Life Belt, and Sniper Rings. You need to hit as often as you can to make your enmity work for you.

I use Anemit Mantle. Behemoth Mantle is better, though.

Tiger Rings are my pick. Those things are pretty sweet. Phalanx Rings are useful as well. Used +STR rings but IMO you want as much +ATK as possible to counteract the lack of +ATK from food.

Don't neglect WAR/MNK. For many situations it's superior. I always use Great Axe when subbing monk unless I need axe for the skillchain.

I'd get Spike Earrings but I don't like slapping down cash for HQ stuff that I'm gonna use for a very short time span If they go down in price some (midgardsormr is one of those super inflatuated servers) I'll snag em.

Thanks for the feedback on this...most every WAR I see 70+ uses a Scorp Harness and I have absolutley no idea why...from my understanding even if they whore evasion gear it won't help them the least bit. Now I at least know to build around high def/VIT/HP than around evasion >>;
