  • I missed WAR/THF and WAR/MNK

This post is sort of a rant.

I realy hate having come into this game after Ninja has been introduced. The reason is that I want to be a WAR/MNK or a WAR/THF, but it seems that WAR/NIN seems to be the more desirable alternative... and I am not that rich to start using Ninjitsu...

Where do WAR/MNK and WAR/THF fit into the party now?
    Modnar

    Melee:
    43 Monk; 25 Warrior; 20 Theif; 10 Dragoon; 11 Dark Knight; 7 Ninja.

    Mage:
55 Red Mage; 32 Black Mage; 27 White Mage.

You don't have to be WAR/NIN, where did you get that idea?

imo, WAR/NIN Is just for dual weild axes and Utsusemi to tank with. you dont NEED to be a WAR/NIN..its just more popular. and i dont think it will be that expensive.. woodworking skill and doing the quest for the utsu scroll might help ^^

WAR/MNK is best until level 30. Then WAR/MNK is still best for tanking until virtually level 74. WAR/THF is best for DD (damage dealer) until 48 (dual wield Viking Axes), 50 (dual wield II trait), or 55 (rampage) - that's your choice. Then WAR/ THF or SAM is good 60-66 for Raging Rush. After 66, WAR/NIN for Mistral Axe is good to open Light Renkei. WAR/ THF or SAM is still viable though for Raging Rush and the break series.

        Here's a simplified version:

        1-29 WAR/MNK
        30-48 WAR/MNK for tanking || WAR/THF for DD
        48-59 WAR/MNK for tanking || WAR/NIN for DD
60-65 WAR/ MNK or SAM for tanking || WAR/ THF or SAM for DD
66-73 WAR/ MNK or SAM for tanking || WAR/ THF or SAM or NIN for DD
74-75 WAR/ NIN or SAM for tanking || WAR/ THF or SAM or NIN for DD
        WAR 60, PLD 48, THF 36, SAM 33, NIN 30, DRK 24, MNK 20, RNG 10, BLM 8, WHM 1, RDM 1, BRD 1, DRG 1, BST 1, SMN 1

        San D'Oria Rank 6

        PLD AF 1/6
        WAR AF 6/6

A mithra war/thf can be stronger then an elvaan War/Thf due to RSE and stats.

War/Thf is awesomely strong. ~80 per swing, and 300+ Sturmwind. I'd go with War/Thf because it's just so fun.

That's what I think too, I only play WAR/NIN when I have to tank.. if I am the attacker, I will go back to my WAR/MNK for better damage, I mean.. I am gonna use G axe most likely, and to sub NIN, not tanking with Utsusemi, nor dual wielding... mm.. what's the point?

I keep all subjobs leveled, so I can sub depending on the party, if people read exp comment, my comment always says 'SJ:MNK THF NIN', which mean I can be anything they want... as WAR has the flexibility to choose its sub...

Yeah anyways most ppl are stupid and if they see a WAR/MNk and a WAR/NIN they will invite the WAR/NIN without seeing your search comment.

He has an advanced job as a sub he must be better!!! /sigh

Even las night while lvling my WHM at altep i heard a lvl 70 WHM say that no one should do WAR/MNk past the dunes....

When I say I can sub either mnk or nin (thf underleveled currently >.<), 80% respond "Ninja." Of course, they want me to tank and somehow think utsusemi makes me a tanking god*. maybe I should sub summoner 1 while lfg so they have to read my comment before making assumptions.
Also, people think war/nin deals better dmg right at 20 when they get dual wield. This even from monk haters.
I guess I'm just kinda adding my own rant. I'm getting tired of red mages and rangers telling me what to sub even if they've never tanked a damn day of their lives.

*of course everyone prefers the pld or nin. I'm just the guy they think of as a 'ghetto ninja' cuz all their 'real' tanks already have parties.
"And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?"

Nobody understands a warrior tank because of other games. They think a tank is a 'meatshield' and should take damage like it's nothing and need little healing.

In FFXI, all you need in a tank is some one who can keep hate. Warriors do just that with damage. The plus to warrior tank is they do more damage over time then a paladin thus shortening the span of the fight. Paladins just drag it out and depend on other players to get the job done.

War, War, Thf will do so much better then any Pld, Drk, Drk party. Superb damage, superb weapon skills, and superb skillchains.

All the paladins in my LS went Warrior for some odd reason that nobody can explain. They were showcased on Sci Fi because it was so wierd and nobody could explain it. They just blamed it on German WW2 technological efforts... whatever.

After stressing about it for a while, I've decided to stop leveling my warrior. I took monk to 75, so leveling war/nin just doesn't seem all that appealing to me. It's basically a monk that can blink and attacks slower. And a helluva lot more expensive to play (gear and shehei).

I really wanted to play a job with a heavy, slow, big hitting 2 handed weapon, but that leaves basically sam/war/drk/drg.

                    -drg gets no respect

                    -sam is misunderstood

-warrior is expected to sub nin and be a monk that tanks. Subbing anything else results in having to constantly explain yourself.

-dark is my eternal adversary and I can not switch over to the dark side.

So I said to myself, "Self," I said, "Why not just play ranger?" and that's what I'm doing. Leveling warrior to 57 was fun, and it's a powerful job... But I'm not grinding out another eleventy billion exp playing warrior just like I played my monk.

That's so true for random EXP pts. Misinformation holds so much sway in FFXI.

I was lucky to land a set PT from 52-62. I PT'd as War/Mnk and War/Thf and I was very appreciated.

How is warrior a monk that tanks. That's the worst comparison I've ever heard while playing FFXI. If you can't tell the differences between the two classes you need a lot of help. Warriors are much more powerful then monks, and will continue to be so. Just because you leeched EXP from parties until you started fighting bones doesn't make you important in any way. Being a tank, and being the one who takes hits is an important job in a party.

Thanks for creating our common misconceptions that make warrior so hard to level. You've done a disservice to your society and you will always be remember for being an ass.

You can sub THF and SA(TA)+GAxe WS, or create your own parties.

I don't think he meant a monk that tanks. I think he meant monk because monk attacks at least twice per round, war with 2 axes attacks twice per round. I think that's a fair comparision...

Personally I think people who over-react and whine like you are a "disservice to your society." I mean come on... could you come off sounding any more like a crybaby?

I'm not going to get into which job is more damaging. The comparison I was making was strictly in fighting style. One, I've leveled to 75 already and they just aren't different enough IN STYLE to piss with leveling the other.

Good job, call my a crybaby because you've got nothing else to say.

What the hell is style? Clothing style? Warriors wear heavier armor, and don't wear gis. Playing style? Monks are only used as DD, Warriors transit from tanks, to DD, to a bit in between. How many other styles are there?

Get a clue, seriously get a clue.
