hello from Valefor...and a question about /MNK

I'm stuck at school and have nothing better to do so I thought I'd drop by one of the many FFXI boards on the web :p

right now my character is a 46 Galka WAR on Valefor. And my question is this.. is MNK even worth lvling anymore as a sub???

the reson I ask is that my MNK is now lvl 20. I used it as a sub for tanking up to 35-36 or so then went to THF because I was asked for DMG most of the time. With THF sub I manage to do very good dmg (highest dmg Sturmwind on an IT is 534 so far..average 340-380 on most mobs)
I also have NIN lvled for sub and usually use that for tanking (beetles are stupidly easy to tank with /NIN) and trick partner duties. I havn't started to dual wield axes yet and don't plan to until at least 50-55 (for dualwield 2 and rampage) but utsusemi has proven VERY useful so far
People keep telling me that MNK is the sub to use for tanking (with so many abilities for hate) but I really am not to keen on playing MNK anymore ; ; (no offence to MNKs, Its a cool job, just not the one for me)
I do plan to lvl SAM as a sub when I get to 60, some people say its useless, but I'd like to try it myself...

hrm..thats a lot of rant :/ ...sry lol back to my question...

do any of you 55+ WARs find any use for /MNK at all? or is it good enough to have /THF /NIN and /SAM? school started recently and I have fewer hrs to play than before, so I don't want to spend tons of time lvling something that I will almost never use at all...

Haven't seen any post 55 using /MNK, /NIN would be better for axe and /THF for gaxe.

War/Mnk is just a stronger Pld/War that makes up for the lack of defense with damage.

You'll be using a great axe to help keep hate with average damage. Axe/Shield can't keep hate as well.

You'll have boost to turn hate your way real fast, but it's about 1/10th as strong as Provoke and is flimsy. It's more useful for powering up weapon skills for keeping more hate.

You'll have Focus and Agressor for Acc+. Focus won't drop your evasion either. This will help your accuracy with a great axe, greatly.

Dodge helps with a couple hits here and there, but would be cancelled out by Agressor.


War/Nin can keep hate with excellent damage because they use two axes, and they attack fairly quickly. With Utsusemi you dodge moves, and other then the diminish of hate over time you don't lose what you would from taking damage. Much better for tanking.
