Im actually considering taking taru war to end game, my main is only 51 PLD, but I wanted to see how war is past 30(I need it as a subjob anyway) Got cent gear, some atk+ and str and dex + and delt more dmg then the elvaan drk, he was one level higher and my sneak attack Sturmwind showed no mercy ~_^

(btw my weapon as Gaxe if you couldnt tell from the weaponskill -_-

also keep it a secret my Gaxe was 70(not capped) and I was still outdamaging the drk @_@ but I had berserk and food on at all times and SA every chance I got, plus I missed less then him)

WAR is arguably stronger than a DRK at those levels with just physical attacks, you have Double Attack, the DRK doesn't; you have a Great Axe which has roughly the same damage as a scythe, but stronger WS (Sturmwind > Slice.) If you're tanking, you also have Counter at your disposal, that's extra hits and faster TP gain (since you'll be getting hit a lot by the mob.) You can have Berserk without having to sacrifice Sneak Attack, they have to choose either one or the other. You have access to basically the same gear, you can use a Great Bow +1, DRKs don't even have archery skill (not that there's anything wrong with crossbows; Acid/Sleep/Bloody/Venom/Blind/Holy Bolts are extremely useful, but if the DRK has those then you may as well use the +1 bows, with their raw power.) ^^

Even as a WAR/MNK, I had a lot of fun lvling Taru to 10. I had a crossbow (holy shyte, the delay is nuts compared to similarly leveled bows) and due to my RDM, my most important skills were capped.

Erm, with capped 1h Sword, Parry, and Evasion, it was fairly painless being a Taru. And i was retarded either, so i didnt take on anything Even. I was using Axe for a while, but i got bored cause i knew i'd lvl faster to 10 if i used Sword.

Truth is, I leveled it to 10 so i can just sub WAR to RDM, but it was still insanely fun. The problem was going back to the Mog House to switch back to RDM. I finally gave up when i ran out of Crossbow Bolts ;

1-10 was cake. At 5 get yourself your first Gaxe and go one shot tons of EP ( once you get some skill).

10-20 was NO problem tanking OR DD in the dunes. If you have a good whm who uses barwatera, you will be fine. Make sure to have someone to pull the mob off of you if you get hit with a particularly nasty Screwdriver though. I never died from it though ( never even had to have it voked off of me).

After fighting a Gob that was too hard for us and it dropping like 4 bombs, we were all in the red. Whm had to use Bene. I held the hate from a 1000+ bene as a war. It turned but voke was up and it came right back without touching the whm.

My def and vit were higher than any other race i ran into. My HP was about 100 lower though. But lie I said it wasnt a big deal. Just watch out for pugs.

20-23 ( where i am now): Still have more def and vit. Still do more dmg even without meat kabobs ( eating fish while tanking). Fighting Goblins int eh tower I was averaging 50-60 a hit while the drk hit for 40-50 and the sam hit for 35 or so. I got several 110+ crit hits. Sturm wind even hit once for 208. Was very nice for lvl 23


Could I be better as another race? Yep

Am I better than the average player thats playing one of the optimal races? Yep

Its all about gear and skill .. not race.

You will do fine, if you havent already. Just dont skimp on anything. Always use a Gax or axe, and keep your armor up to date.
