War/nin can tank but not as well as a nin/war or pld/war. The other two classes just have more hate holding abilities. At lvl 50 in garilge I ran out of tools. A pt member had 500 tnl. The war/nin offered to tank and I ask the pt if they would mind, fully explaining to the pt the last 500 xp will be rough. Needless to say the war/nin could not hold hate at all, mages almost died every battle.
I have yet to have anyone besides a blm who goes nuke crazy or a ranger doing barrage to pull hate from me.
Unless you have pt with a good nin and see how much hate nin can create with ninjutsu, voke and damage from normal attacks+ ws your statement about nin not being able to tank is not valid.
A good nin will cast blind, hit 2 times , voke before any other melee even gets a hit on the mob, on top of that not taking damage and voking using the elemental wheel plus nin debuffs.
Casting Utsusemi: Ichi in mid battle is hard, no doubt about that but if you time it right, can be done. I speak this from experience as I have been main tank in all my pt's since lvl 12 nin about 95% of the time. Granted up to 37 I always had a 2nd voker but after that there will still be times when Ni will not be up and ichi is all there is.

I don't mean to sound offensive in anyway... but I was always told that ninja couldn't hold any hate, and that they didn't have enough hate holding abilities. Your above statment sounds a lot like BS... Maybe your really just a good ninja or that warrior was really crappy but he should of been holding the hate a lot better than you talked about.

Whoever told you that told you BS.
Ninja have tons upon tons have hate holding abilities. Unlike PLDs though, it's built up over time. Ninja's hold hate perfectly fine. Actually, let me rephrase that. Non-cheap Ninjas hold hate perfectly find. Cheap ninjas are a bane to the class.

He must have really sucked.

Why do all ninjas on message boards say this, and yet most of the ninja tanks I party with in-game are ineffectual without a thief?
Last ninja tank I had was JP, decently-equipped, and the monk and I ended up doing 60% of the tanking. Edit: more like 40, other 20% was the BLM
Nusayb, Galka, Fairy Server- 63WAR, 70NIN, 37THF, 66MNK, 25DRG, 18RNG, 16SAM, etc. WAR AF Complete. NIN AF Complete. MNK AF Complete.
i think the effectiveness of a nin tank has to do with how much they spend. If they spam ALL the ninjutsus (as it sounds like Guymelef does) and max out on EVA, then they hold hate pretty well. It's the cheap ones (that only use utsu and voke) that can't hold hate.
I tank with war/monk, probably not the best tank but with provoke, defender and boost every 15 seconds, i do an alright job. I use shield/ Axe to tank with, i like the fact i can block attacks and every little bit of extra D helps. But with a /nin sub i think it would be best to use 2 axes(since thats where a lot of your hate tends to come from, damage)
Now to the 4 page debate, starting playing whm lately and blink is sooooooooo, soooooo nice to have. Even if its just done at the beginning of the battle to stop 5-6 hits. This helps me in the beginning of the fight to get out my enfeebles without having to worry about the tanks health for a little while. Even if its not used during mid battle(which i think it should at least be tempted. If you are doing the god awful amount of damage you say you are, missing out on 1-2 rounds of attacks, you shouldnt lose hate) Every amount of MP saved by the healer means the less downtime you have, and the more exp an hour you can pull in, and in the end, thats all that matters =)
