  • WAR and Shields.

I am a WAR/NIN and I intend to Dual Wield. However is there ever a time when we should wield a Shield? I mean we CAN use shields but no one ever mentions them, they could be useful while tanking, no? Some also look quite cool and have cool effects.

I use the balance buckler, +3 acc.

But if I were /NIN I wouldn't bother with shields, parrying is your shield, Utsusemi is your armor.

Having a chance of shield blocking helps when recasting Utsusemi. That combined with parrying, you have 2 ways of randomly blocking an attack. And on the side, WAR's AF Gloves gives shield skill+10.

I use shields situationally, when leveling on robber crabs, I would do insignificant damage with dual axes (all def gear, def food +defender). So I just equip a shield and go all out tank. Other than that, I just dual axes. If your shield skill is at 0, you shouldnt bother trying to level it, go parry.

Shields are always very good to use

I have seen a few warrior/ninja's use shield. I personally do not, because my shield skill is so low. It is something I plan on skilling up, but as you prolly well know Shield and Parry skill are the hardest skills to raise in this game IMO.

            Uhhh, no?

If you're tanking as /NIN your going to take much harder hits than if you were subbing MNK, even with food and defender it hurts. He was talking about tanking not dealing damage.

I tank as /Nin and I don't use Utsusemi. I regret not selling it, because it's worthless.

Too many people think Utsusemi is some ultimate tanking spell that makes the user invincible and all parties roll smoothly with the best EXP ever. Wrong. You cast it before a fight and get to dodge 3 hits, then you try and recast it with one hit left, which is wasted before the casting animation is over.

War/Nin is basicaly for hitting faster, more often, and building up more TP. Not as fast as a samurai though.

Err....you should be dodging 6 hits at the start of the fight, then casting it in battle whenever it's back up (and if you can't cast it in mid-battle, you should go against some too-weak mobs and practice).

Trying to recast in between hits is a joke. Utsusemi takes a couple hours to cast, and wimps out on the slightest touch. The only way Ninjas do it is Utsu: Ni into an Utsu: Ichi. All I have is a ninja spell with the casting time of an ancient spell.

I don't even waste time casting it unless they want to try something a bit tougher. White mages have this spell called Cure which refills my health. It does wonders.

If you can't recast utsusemi in mid battle, you aren't tanking to your full potential.

learn how it works and how to time the hits so you can actually recast it in time. Just because you don't know how to use it doesn't mean it sucks, it means you're the one sucking and need to practice with it.

Thanks for help, good to hear it from an actual warrior/ninja.

Oh wait, nevermind. You have no idea what it's like trying to recast utsu while be attacked by an exoray or funnel bat.

You wouldn't know at all, yet you tell me I'm not tanking to my pull potential. My full potential is doing as much damage as possible during the figth, and wasting my time on utsu when I get healed faster and more efficiently means I'm not fighting to my full potential.

In fact, your dumbass shouldn't even be talking about full potential. Subbing ninja gives a ranger mucher better agi boosts then subbing warrior, AND you can dual wield weapons with +agi stats.

                              Thanks for your bullshit comment.
