Parser logs, 6/30/04 - Tanking.

Yes it's long, but if you're a Warrior enthusiast and interrested in our job, it's not boring.

New logs: I know I promised I would wait until 60, but 15 days later and I'm still only 1 level higher (58) because I'm farming for Haubergeon (200k gil away!).

First things first, overview:

I turned off PT misses and Alliance misses somewhere in the middle because it was lagging me too much.

Fights #1-3, and 14-18 trash mobs, deleted.

Fights #4-13 umm...Coffer Key hunting, yeah.

Fights #17-35 T to IT mobs, joined a Coffer Key hunting group in |Garliage Citadel|.
We were just all spamming WS whenever we could, mobs died too fast to wait for SC. Basically a damage dealer's dream. By the looks of it, the 61 DRK and I were alternating WS on mobs so whenever he used Guillotine, he would win, whenever I used Rampage, I would win. I know a few times we both did our WS on the same mobs, but I can't say exactly which fights they were.

*Fights #36-55 I was doing skillups with Great Axe

Fights #56-85 were an XP PT where I was tanking, casting Utsusemi, using Fish kabobs and Defender.

What's interresting to me is how many fights I was close to the DRK's damage output while I was tanking. Even without using any offensive abilities other than the occasional Warcry to grab agro back from the RNG.

Rampage did not perform well last night on the Orcs. The most it hit for all night was 200ish I believe...This could be because of Defender and using Fish food (sure I had 503 Def but no more than 200 ATK).

The rare critical hit or TP attack was in the mid 100's but most of the hits I was taking were in the 35-65 range.

The hardest thing to do was get agro back after the |Barrage| + |Sidewinder| > |Rampage|. I would complete the SC and Provoke, but he would pour all that damage into it all at once and there isn't much I can do to get agro back. That's where I would usually start throwing out Warcry and Berserk.

The party took the same amount of time to set up as it lasted ; ; "Unforseen issues" happened and people had to leave. Mages are very catty with eachother these days it seems ><

Now you have to parse when a PLD is tanking and see how much damage he does, then comapre it to you when you were tanking just now! Impressive though, but it fluctuated. I was impressed with how little you took! Some fights you'd only take 192, others a bit more but I don't think I ever saw 1000+ damage. I take more in a fight at my level than 192 per battle so WAR's can't be that bad as a tank! (I assume the 192 isn't your damage taken- damage healed)

We were killing those Ors so fast most times though. With a DMG heavy group (WAR, DRK, RNG, DRG, BLM, WHM) they barely lasted 3 provokes, some didn't even last that long.

Best advice I can give you is to ignore them. They are ignorant people and will never succeed in this game if they contnue their way of thinking.

I would say that the Warrior job is one of the longest, hardest roads you can take. It takes pride and total dedication to excel and prove the nay-sayers wrong.

You will need to level up multiple subjobs, weapons, and have pieces of gear to change in when tanking and pieces to change in when damage dealing. Some of which, but not all, cost millions of gil...Haubergeon (Hauberk), Sniper's Rings, Juggernaut, etc.

Not to mention Meat and Fish foods, Utsusemi tools and those always handy Warp Scrolls from your CP vendor.

What exactly are you trying to prove?

Fights 1-55 aren't exactly conclusive of anything ... and fights 56+ you've got mediocre damage (of course this is to be expected in a tanking role) ... so ... is there a conclusion to this, or are you just posting random logs :confused:

Off topic but how did you farm that 2mil? (2 mil in 2 weeks, takes me 2 weeks to get 200k, at my level atleast )

I am a Warrior. This is the Warrior forums the last time I checked. I do research and post results in various situations for the advancement of all Warriors.

Am I trying to prove something? Not that I know of...

I know if a level 75 War/Nin posted logs in various situations, I would be very interrested in reading and learning through his experiences.

There are a lot of younger Warriors here that constantly deal with unexperienced players who think they are know-it-alls, putting them down and saying Warriors are worthless and can't do this and can't do that, etc.

Everyone loves a Refresh...so you have the love of your server. It's kind of hard to argue anyone who can cast Refresh is not a good job, am I right?

I'm not sure why you responded, but again, this is information for Warriors...not little prissy finger wigglers :p

Got lucky on a Monster Signa and an Archer's Ring this week. 850k certainly helped my cause! Not to mention a Lust Dagger and some Painite waiting to sell

Nono, I was just wondering if you were posting it just for general interest/information, or whether you were trying to draw a specific conclusion, that's all.

I find it interesting that you always use defender. I usually avoid using defender unless my life is plummeting and the mages can't keep it up (usually not the case). Damage taken is more, but damage dealt is also more. Unfortunately, I haven't been called to tank often enough to draw many conclusions about what works and what doesn't. My train of thought would be to use defender on the long duration battles and no defender on the short battles. What is your take on this?

Rampage was very spotty for me when I was tanking: 100-300 dmg. The extra 200 ATK and 15 STR when in attack mode does wonders for that weapon skill ^^. Of course, my most recent tanking party was on IT+ mobs for lv58s when I was lv56. I love being the lowest level AND tanking.

Your damage received seems a little atypical. I think our Mithran PLD was taking 50-80 dmg and 120-150 on special attacks/criticals while I was probably taking 60-90 and 130-150 (also Mithran). Perhaps this is just the difference in mobs that we are fighting. Are you using a gluttony sword, perhaps? Go +VIT or +DEF? I sure hope race doesn't play that big of a part in effectiveness.

I would say the purpose of the logs is to allow for comparison between players and the avenue for sparking strategy discussion. As a side effect, it can also show doubfuls how the WAR class sits as we progress into the higher levels. Along with that, it can also show people our short-comings at verious points in our career. For example, whether due to bad parties or improper equipment choice, I'm feeling my tanking abilities to be ok, but not as effective as a PLD or NIN.

Ahhh, I'm jealous.

I've been looking for a way to make money for lots of shihei and a valk mask. Camping NMs has always been bad for me though lol.

Grab a 45+ THF friend and camp Archer Rings. I'm about to break 1 mil in 3 days.
