  • Should warrior use sniper rings?

Dont take in mind the cost factor...

Snipers rings have a -10 def , which will add to -20 def for the pair! Warriors are always tanking or back up tanking or even when we act as dmg dealers we will be ready to provoke!

Is it worth to get +10 accuracy while losing -20 defense? We have aggressor+life belt + axe +acc.

I tried to find better rings but nothing seems to be very good, when i examine high lvl JP warriors they are never using sniper rings though.

Just about all melee should be using sniper's rings (other than PLD of course)

As WAR, I'd assume you don't tank all the time past 40. Depending on what your party needs you for, it'd be a good idea to bring multiple gear, depending on what your role in a party is.

It'll do you no good to be wearing +VIT gear if your party invites you to play as damage dealer.

As far as Sniper's rings when tanking, the extra hits would help you gain wanted aggro, and of course you'd be taking more damage in the process.

Just keep in mind you're not limited to one role.
    Hope that helps. ^^

I'm using STR rings ATM, simply because I have enough acc as is (Viking Axes*2 until 55, then Darksteel Axe+Viking Axe+Lifebelt, +Aggressor). However, at 60 I plan on using Gaxe for Raging Rush/Spam break series with meditate, so I'll pick them up then.

ZQM, those are my plans as well. I hit so often right now, I see no reason to lose my STR. I also haven't seen the need to upgrade to the Royal Guards Coller yet, either.

As we level into the end-game, the level delta between us and them becomes great enough that it becomes mandatory for melee to juice up on all the ACC they can find. I think it starts when fighting coeurls. Right now we are finally able to chain IT/IT++ to #4 so it is beginning...

I have both. The problem is that when I'm not tanking I always end up grabbing hate in a SC. SA + Sturmwind does crazy dmg for me. So I have 2 macros to switch between my def/vit and acc/att gear. Though with berserk on, it tends to not make much of a difference.

              There's several schools of thought.

Personally I see alot of JP using

              snipers rings. +5 acc ea
str rings +4 or 3 depending on lvl
dex rings +3 or 4 depending on level
tiger rings (wtf) I see a crapload of warriors using these for some reason, I think they suck but whatever. 2 def, 2 agi, 2 atk
              phalanx rings +10 defense

on rare occasions I'll see the +50 or +75 hp rings used by these warriors. most of the offensive warriors I see use either DEX or STR or snipers. As far as their effectiveness goes, who is to say? The most important thing is that you have enough gil to buy them, that's what the game is really about, gil =p

I think it largely depends on your level. From level 40-50, Sniper's Rings are really nice because they're just about the only +ACC item available. From 50-60, they become a bit iffy, as you can sub MNK and get Focus and Aggressor (plus, you'll have a Life Belt), which together, will always keep an accuracy buff on you. Past level 60, there are so many items that will raise your accuracy that Snipers' become a waste of space. At level 60, you'll likely be using something like: R.G. Collar (+4 ACC), Assault Earring (+2 ACC), Haubergeon (+10 ACC), Life Belt (+10 ACC), and Fighter's Cuisses (+3 ACC). That's +29 ACC right there. That doesn't include the extra ACC from added DEX, or from Aggressor, or from other buffs. Or, if you're a /NIN, you'll probably be using a Viking Axe (another +10 ACC). At that point, adding most ACC would be pointless. You'd be better served using STR rings to raise your maximum damage output.

So, early on, Sniper's Rings are great. Later on, their effectiveness diminshes a lot.

i've had snipers forever as monk, and i beleive there an easy 10 acc for any melee who's hurting for it... 69 war from myls asked to borrow my snipers for an xp pt, he'd always used STR rings, and he was very impressed when he saw the benefits of the snipers

                    I use phalanx rings.

There are so many other things that give +dex/acc but not a lot that give +10 def.

I gues we should considering Saintly Rings because there isn't much that gives +mnd for a WAR?

Why would you go for tanking stats when in a damage dealing role? It's good to keep on you and switch when you get macro, but you're gimping yourself keeping them on all the time.

Actually, there's so much competition for damage dealer, I only get invites to tank. Phalanx rings were a good investment. My damage output is still up with the dark knights with haste.

The only other rings I'd consider wearing are Mermaid's Rings.

If you're in a static party as a damage dealer, then by all means use those snipers. I do what I need to make me more desirable for a party, and at the moment it's tanking.

Sorry for the confusion. However, I thought this thread would be strictly DD since only a fool would equip -10 def rings while tanking.

                            Oh, yea.

By the way, sniper rings jumped to 600k on Seraph.

                            OUCH.

I wouldn't have those even if I was DD.

Snipers are 510k on midgard, and I remember a lot of talk about them when they were 290k :spin:

I talked to some guy leveling THF who claimed to be a level 36 DRK saying he would buy the HQ version of the rings, which go for a cheap 2mil
