Elvaan vs Humes - which do I want?

I'm going for a Drk/Paladin, but I'll play as a warrior first probably, so figured this would be the forum.

It seems like the elvaan would be a bit better, but is the difference significant once you gain a few levels, or would the elvaan warior be significantly better throughout the game.

I know I can get items and stuff to make the human just as good, but I'd rather not have to use magic items to compensate when I could use them to get better instead :-)

I'd normally just pick the elvann, but I'm not the biggest fan of their appearance. Those huge ears get to me a bit...


Oh, and is there a statwise difference between genders, or does that only effect the charachters appearance?

Gender makes no difference. And I'll take Hume over Elvaan anyday, but Tarus are still the best. ^^

If you're planning on eventually going DRK or PLD, go Elvaan. I don't like the look but on either path (and with WAR) Elvaan is the stronger choice.

Yeah, I'm new at this so forgot that when I typed dark knight/paladin, you'd think I meant dark knight sub job paladin. Sorry.

No, I'm just going for either dark knight OR paladin, with subjob warrior (leaning towards dark knight, but I have some time untill I have to decide).

So you think I should take the Elvaan? How big is the difference? The instruction book that came with the game does a really poor job of helping me out in this area - it's pretty skimpy discussing the races, and it seems like elvaan is a compromise between galka and human, but its not clear how much better they are at fighting than humans. If its just a bit better, or if it starts out much better but than evens out towards later levels, I'd probably go with the human just because of looks.

The impression I got was that the race just altered your base stats, so that the elvan would be significantly better than the hume at low levels (ie - 14 strength instead of 8, or something like that), but at high levels, the 6 s points would be meaningless (ie- 86 strength vs 80 strength). I guess I'm wrong about this?

Oh, last question. Is there any drawback to starting in a different kingdom than that which is "meant" for your race (ie: starting human warrior in san d'oria, instead of bastok).

I do the same damage as Elvaans, I am hume.

The impression I had was that the different characteristics of the racces become more exaggerated as you get higher in level.

For DRK, it's significant IMO. More strength (7 points at level 59) and higher HP (about 100 at 59) for Soul Eater. To me, that'd be too good to pass up, if I were only picking between those two races.

If you want to go for the gold, though, Galka DRK.

I'd go for Elvaan, simply because you have more HP. More HP means easier at earlier levels.

You have less MP but that doesn't matter much if you are a good player.

I'd go for Galka only if I take warrior and/or mnk as side jobs later on. Galka is great but not worth your time and effort (money too) compare to Elvaan if you don't go mnk or war later on.

see, elvaan has crap mp, crap agi, more chances of monster criting you, good dmg but as a pld you want to tank, less mp means less cures and less flashes, aggro holding would be abit harder compare to humes.

hume has balanced hp and mp, mp is very important, but not too much as you must keep in mind that some monster abilities can directly damage yer hp. I've seen a taru pld got one shotted by sickle slash just becoz he doesnt had the hp to withstand it (690 hp 700 sickle slash -_-; )

and since hume has balanced stats you can either go all vit or all mp or mixed, it's sorta dynamic

elvaan for drk, elvaan has fairly high hp (rank2 on HP) so since you have such high hp chances are yer soul eater effect would be stronger (exchange hp for dmg) plus they have high strength, means each swing will be hard, low acc can be fixed with all those acc gears (but ya need to sorta farm for em for a while) With fairly low mp you might wanna do some food crafting and make yer own juices, but you'll probably be using 1 absorb spell at a time anywayz, i like drks coz their stuns are just too good, yer power comes mostly from yer melee dmg anyway.

edit: forgot to mention mithra, i'm not so sure honestly, i think their better for an offensive class, their low vit is too much of a penalty for a tanker. They can go both ways, since their states are similar to hume. Drk & War mithra hits often and can do massive dmg with good equipments, once i partied with a JP mithran with nagan she was doing 800-1000 spinings on bones

sidenote: if you are choosing elvaan & going drk, plsssss dont choose female, their stances are just... arg... dont even let me get into it, you will regret it. If you choose yer nation you get a rare/ex ring at start, ie: Elvaan choose san do ria, you get the sandoria ring +1 str +1 mnd

No... seriously... DRK/PLD won't work.

Oh, and whenever I get to fighting... (I am Hume) I wish I were Elvaan or Galka, then agian, I'm a WAR, and you're asking questions about DRK... so this should be on the DRK forum maybe? :sweat:

Stat wise beside hp/mp pool, race choice doesn't change really much.

Personnaly i'd say that elvaan looks gay, humes are too bland and taru too annoying. So this leave us with galka and mithra...

With the job system in this game, you are going to be starring at your char for a long time so pick a model you like.
