Or are you just calling NINs useless because you're very biased?
First of all, I'm a level 37 ninja myself, and I had planned to go with that job all the way to cap... until I realized that I didn't want to tank 100% of the time. Since 37 I've partied with more NIN tanks than PLD... last party I made had a NIN tank. I'll level NIN to 50 or so once I get WAR to 70 for more experience blink-tanking.

I'm not biased against Ninja. I'm realistic about the job. They offer very efficient tanking, but nothing else that another job can't do better.

Your argument about shuriken is so silly that I can't believe I keep responding to it. There are new iterations of shuriken at 18, 28, 48, and 60. Check the prices for a stack sometime, and figure in the delay. Ninja is expensive, I spent well over a million on equipment getting to 37, but what you're talking about is beyond stupid.

      hmm

Great finally something I can comment on well. I have taken ninja to lvl 54 and this is what I think. Ninja will be a very effective tank no so much better than a warrior but on the same level in heir own way. Let me explain.. Aninja will tank and that is about it. They can tank very well and even at 74 are good at what they do. A warrior will have Utsusemi: Ni also but without evading as much the shadows wont last as long and you have to time it right on Ichi due to long cast time. Tanking in this manner a ninja is superior. The thing is a warrior will have better armor can take the hits for a good while as well as hold better hate. A paladin (throwing this into the picture) can take hits very well but wont have the blink time and will need MP (not a problem due to rdm and brd) and also deal the least damage. That is like a transition from one extreme to the other with war being the medium of the 2. All are good there is no denying that unless you are just really biased or blind. So as far as I can tell there is really nothing to argue...

I guess it's just prefrence or availability. I prefer having a paladin, dunno why, it's just what we've always had.

actually this is false, NIN post 60 attack insanly fast (with dual wield 3) and can match the dmg of a WAR or SAM and out dmg a BLM, but nothing as insane as a RNG, MNK or DRK

Ugh, War/NIN is only good at lvl 74..unless you wanna blow ur money away and blink just to gain exp...I have thief sub and do my fair share of damage. But just let ninjas and plds tank in exp pts...once you get to lvl 65+ and you try to take those bones and tigers, your gonna get pwned really bad.And you wont stand a chance holding agro against a monk.

                personally I wouldn't use /NIN to tank with...I'd use it for dealing dmg...really TC, I've seen those WAR/NIN's with two axes in action and they are really sickening >.>;

                  hrm....

can I be a Mithra and still be an effective TANK?

If I do want to be a tank, I keep hearing conflicting msgs... some people say WAR/PLD? others WAR/NIN? What is most effective...? (or does it depend on how one enjoys various sides of either one?)

Today in my pt, there were 2 WARs, the other WAR was /NIN and it was pretty cool to watch them use 2 axes. Also, on 1 raging axe they did 311 damage @_@

They would do the same damage with 2 axes as great axe, but it seemed like the missed a lot with 2 axes.

They could also pull with blink, and would use the debuffing ninjutsu to lower the defense of whatever skillchain we were doing (Shield Break - Raging Axe, forgot the mb).

It made me want to be /NIN @_@

                          Out damage a BLM?

                          Yeah...

                          All the time... >_>

Dude, if you think a NIN can outdamage a BLM... and you think DRK has more damage potential than BLM, and then you say WARs damage is inferior to NIN? You're mistaken. BLM is extremely powerful.

WARs damage is awesome, I hit for about 10-15 less than a DRK, and at Lv. 75 (via talking to my friend, how I found the info) WARs only do 20-25 less. No abilities. Of course you guys use your abilities WARs will do 100's less.

Anyway, about the shuirken (sp?) spammage, it's decent damage. But if you have 1,000,000g... you will lose that money within a matter of Lv's being you need your shuirkens (sp?) upgraded to your Lv. No one will be able to keep up w/the cost of shuirkens (sp?). The damage isn't something to wail over, it's decent.

And no... 2-3 shurikens (sp?) a fight won't add up to much, you will need the constant throwing, and who has the money for that?

Saying that you do not need to have your shurikens (sp?) upgraded to the latest ones is like saying, "I know the 45 RNG is using a Lv. 30 bow, and Lv. 18 arrows, but it's all good."

EDIT: Shuirken (sp?) damage is better than I expected, still, nothing to wail over.

CG is doing some crazy BCNM40 event on friday (we have almost 20 orbs) so I was hoping I could get money from that to level NIN (although there is something where certain people get to be in all the fights and others only get to be in for their orbs...)

I was also going to camp an NM or do what I learned from you when you were doing snipers (the dhamel thing).

Oh and hisdon, I get to wear IM stuff in 2 levels ;O

I love war/nin. Often i get asked to tank when there isn't a tank around, which fine.

I would use more defense accessories: drone earring, eat fish or boiled crab, use warriors belt for vit+.

But if i had a pld or nin in the pty, this is where I have my fun =). Beetle earring+1, meat kabob, sword belt, I choose to use dex+ ring over str+ ring. Because overall if u can't hit, it won't matter how much dmg you can deal.

I finally found "Mighty Strike" to be useful. With "Dual Wield" and over 12+dex (can't wait for lvl 48 with life belt or viking axe) I critical lots. Sometimes with "Double Attack" I deal 4 critical hits back to back.

A lot of people wants war/thf to be the dmg dealer, but I believe overall dmg wise, war/nin does just as much if not more dmg than war/thf. I keep my great axe and axe max. But I choose dual axe over great axe b/c of the delay and possiblity of a miss.
