Question about WAR weapons

I'm really asking this for a friend I PT with all the time. He's a level 12 WAR and I wanted to ask what type of weapon he should use. Right now he uses a sword, and it's been doing fine (I guess). He bought a GAxe but his attack dropped waaaaay down, so he sold it again. I'm not experienced with WAR so I don't know what type of weapon he should use. Is a regular sword okay up until a certain level? Any help would be appreciated.

The reason why his attack dropped so dramatically is because he had yet to raise his skill in wielding that type of weapon. Axes and Great Axes are WAR's best weapons. I suggest that you tell your friend to repurchase that Great Axe and an Axe and level it's skill. He can easily do this by killing monsters in the first zones near the 3 cities.

Well the thing with switching a new weapon after using the same type for so long (e.g. sword to GAxe) is that your weapon skills have to level as well. What I did was equipped the Light Axe I got in a Port Sandi quest and then just went around fighting much weaker enemies to build up the combat skill of the Axe family of weapons. I did the same thing when I went on to the GAxe and it's worked really well. I still prefer to use the Axe/Shield combo at this early of a level though since my armor rating is only @ 82 with the shield.

I personally like gs because they look cool. I also just got to lvl 10 so my attack also dropped way down because my gs skill is at 0.
