  • lvl 63 WAR...SJ:SAM,MNK,THF....Weapons:1 handed Sword and....

THATS IT.Now yesterday I was trying to create a decent party and since there was no PLD ro NINs around I decided to invite a WAR that I saw to party along with so the THF could SATA between us.We meet up by the Telepoint and decide to go up to Onzozo to level. We get there and all I see the WAR has is a shield and sword.

I ask him if he brought his Great Axe with him(I would naturally think he would have it)He responds with no.Ok he doesnt have Great Axe,so then I asked if he had a 1 handed Axe(of course he couldnt have gone all the way to 60 and not have an Axe).Suprisingly he responds with no....Then I ask if he had a Great Sword or Polearm.................no and NO. Now am not the one to name names but I swear this was the crappiest excuse for a WAR I have ever seen while playing. Now am just wondering how the hell did he get to lvl 63 and only having a 1 handed Sword and nothing more :dead:

Very simply. As a RDM in my linkshell once said. "Any fool can become a high level in this game."

It's very evident as well. Some spend millions of gil on the best equipment and can't get pts. Some don't do jack, and are 60+ Wacky eh?

There was once a guy in my ls who said, "If I could solo easys for 18 exp to 75, I would" (he is 75 now too)

This guy played all the time and was said to be crappy and didn't try to do his best. He just played all the time, could have had a pt that only got 500 exp an hour but he was in it all day.

This probably applies to your level 63 WAR.

I refuse to level more until I get enough money for Haubergeon...smart or stupid? (only 1 mil to go! ><)

I have Sword and Axe skill maxed as I play /NIN most of the time in PTs. My GS (130) and GA (150) are lagging behind because of this. I also have Polearm and Scythe up to 100 (plan on maxing all weapons eventually).

I've been using the time farming for Haubergeon to skillup GA mostly, but I've been asked before by PTs to use GS to start Distortion level 2 Renkei but it's been too low and I feel like I'm doing something wrong by not having every weapon leveled up.

Should I stop leveling entirely until I have all my weapons skilled up to max?

                wow

It's like he wants to take the generic noob war/mnk with shield and sword only all the way...

I've only skilled up axes and great axes as a war, and boy do I love them. All the other weapons are sissy. Why bother with puny metal pokers when u can gouge new ones with that bigazz slate of cold metal...

hehe... actually swords are useful if u plan on HNM with spirits within, and dual wield for stats. Great Sword or Polearm are good for distortion starters with a thf, the only thing lacking in axes.

But Axe and Great Axe are a must for war. Rampage and Raging Rush are awesome.

honestly, whether u have a geon (i tend to call it this way, sounds like John, hah? lol) or not, that may not change ur chance of getting invites even at all. but i can tell u this; i'm w/ u on that.

some ppl, if not many, tend to give themselves an excuse of "hey, i got full AF, it's gotta be godly that i won't need to buy anything else even at 75, so i could save some of my money." but it's well known that some AF pieces r really worthless that some even throw away, or don't even bother to get.

as for WAR, every AF piece is useful, but the body piece makes an exception when u r not tanking. the Enmity+8 bonus somewhat makes it harder for a tank, especially NIN, to control the hate, and it doesn't have an offensive bonus. it indeed makes a good gear when it comes to tanking, but when playing as a melee dmg dealer, even RK body piece makes a better choice.

Haubergeon clearly is the best dmg dealing WAR's choice until maybe the Assault Jerkin, and obvisouly Hauberk, w/ the only exception being Byrnie which i personally don't like (especially because i'm an Elvaan i can't live w/ the -3 on DEX). and whenever the WAR brings his/her geon to the party, though the difference might be small, the "benefits" ur party gets over time is definitely worth farming for another million.

i know it's tough, especially that amount at ur level, but good luck.

it's always better to max all the weapons, but in reality, u should first concentrate on the mainstream weapons, and then, if the time permits, train others.

                  here's a weapon-by-weapon details among those u mentioned;

Great Axe; obvisouly, one of ur best partners. no reason to leave its skills left behind. i understand that parties while subbing NIN almost automatically make u use ur 1h weapons, but Great Axe skills will be vital once u reach 60, for Raging Rush. such need will become somewhat low when u reach 66, when u start using Mistral Axe, and WAR's tend to use 1h Axe most of the time after that, but Steel Cyclone of Great Axe that u'll learn at skill 250 (must be quested for though) is really strong that u won't wanna miss, though in normal levelling parties u will still be asked for NIN sub and 1h Axe. but whenever the occasion grants u, u should be ready to use it. so, "mainstream weapon."

1h Axe; another one of ur best partners, obvisouly. it seems that ur keeping up well w/ the 1h Axe skills, but once u get 60, u r likely to use ur Great Axe often, and depending on the party setup and the mobs u fight, tha chance to use 1h Axe could decrease drastically that won't let u max ur 1h Axe skill. so, from 60-65, u might have to undergo some skil-up parties, but once u reach 66, like i said above, that's won't be a worry any more. obviously, "mainstream weapon."

1h Sword; as a 57 WAR, the need for 1h Sword is mostly gone, w/ the Spinning Axe which can start or "toss" the Fusion renkei in place of Red Lotus Blade. however, in an unlikely even u might need Spirits Within from time to time, especially for HNM battles, but in the normal levelling parties, it won't be needed. Dual Wielding 1h Axes will be a better option, both dmg wise and accuracy wise. so the 1h Sword now is only a "secondary weapon."

Great Sword; i understand that u used GS in that party because u didn't have enough skills in Polearm, but the only usage for GS is Power Slash for Distortion, really. and Polearm's Double Thrust makes a better WS to use than Power Slash. some might argue that u'll need Freezebite to start Fragmentation, but u r more likely to be the one who finishes it, w/ Raging Rush, or Sturmwind before 60. still need to start it? Smash Axe of 1h Axe is all u need, or u can use Raging Rush to start Fragmentation after 60. i must say GS for WAR is "not really needed, but if ur time permits."

Polearm; used to be the only weapon WAR would ever need back when lvl 60 was the cap, believe or not. Pentathrust used to have the Transfixion attribute, thus was able to use it in place of Double Thrust or Power Slash. well, all the history aside, w/ recent TP nerf, it must be right to say that Polearm itself was nerfed. however, Double Thrust still is the strongest Transfixion attributed WS that WAR can use (unless of course, u sub RNG lol)
, w/ the exception being the Dagger's Evisceration, which u can quest for at lvl 73 as a WAR... at 73, the need for this kinda WS' will be gone, so it's really out of talk here. Distortion renkei is clearly the mainstream renkei used, and when u r in a place to start it, then the Polearm is ur friend. not so strong as compared to Dual Wielding 1h Axes or Great Axe, but still, one of the things WAR should be able to use until 65, when lvl 3 renkei becomes available. so it's "mainstream weapon," but after u reach 65, or 66 to be on the safe side, this becomes "not really needed, but if ur time permits." (note that current in-game trait tells us that weapons that we have B-rated efficiency on should not be used after lvl 60. because of this, some may even forget about WAR using Polearm. nevertheless, it's a WAR's job to be able to "supply" more choice, and the Polearm is the key weapon when it comes to the Distortion renkei, while many might consider MNK's Howling Fists or DRG's Skewer in the first place.)

Scythe; honestly, don't spend ur time on this unless u got some serious time to kill. no strong WS' that WAR can use, other weapons have the same attributes of WS' and they r stronger. Guillotine and Cross Reaper r DRK's SP WS', Spiral Hell (one that's quested for) has the same lvl 2 attribute as Steel Cyclone, and good Scythes (like Vassago) r "reserved" for DRK's... thus, like GS, "not really needed, but if ur time permits."

remember, it's always better to max all, but try working on the mainstream ones first, and then, and only then, if ur time permits, go w/ others.
