  • Taking a look at WAR/DRK 60+

Okay, first off I'd like to say my Warrior level is extremely low (level 5) and my Dark Knight level is non-existant. (Haven't bothered to finish the quest.) This is because I play mage classes 99% of the time....

but! (always one of these. )

I was looking at other jobs and thier abilities today out of curiosity...and I came upon something I thought was intresting...

While playing this game I have NEVER ONCE seen a WAR/DRK...not once....so I always just figured it was a gimped job combo unconsciously. (One of those weird ones you don't even waste time thinking about...ie SAM/SMN)

but the thing that blows my mind is...once you hit 60WAR/30DRK....you really get alot of great abilities that sound incredibly helpful for an attacker WAR.

Let's take a look here at these bonuses you get at 60..

Berserk, War Cry, Aggresor, Defender (Not as important for a non-tanking WAR....but still nice to have for emergencies.) Last Resort, Weapon Bash (Great Axe), and Souleater...Not to mention 3 Attack bonuses (1 from WAR, 2 from DRK.)

There must be some unseen downside I'm not noticing, because on paper this sounds like a combo that can do extremely well....especially with G Axe WS.

What am I missing here?

at 60+, a war's primary purpose in a pt is to use g.axe breaks. that's why you see alot of wars subbing sam past 60. mnk and thief are also popular for sneak (breaks don't miss) and focus/boost.

one thing to note about drk sub, you will have very low drk magic skill, so drain/aspir will be weak, and you won't really have much mp for nuking. plus, I believe (and i may be wrong, but i know this is how it works with pld and war def+) that the first atk+ from war and drk don't stack. so in reality you only get 1 atk+ from drk sub. Also as far as last resort goes, boost will add more atk at high lvls, and can be used every 15 secs. and also stacked between battles to add a ton of dmg to breaks if you have tp for the start of a battle.

drk sub probably won't be horrible, but it won't turn you into a pure dmg dealing class that's for sure.

Last Resort is no where near good. The built in provoke is the main thing. Would be good when tanking, but we're talking about a DD here. Also, Soul Eater > Berserk > Last Resort, so it'd only be used as a......last resort.

Soul Eater is gimped as a sub, and I'd much rather have Meditate/Focus/Sneak+Trick.

Also, I don't know if the ATK trait don't stack. I believe the DEF traits don't, so I don't see why they'd let ATK ones stack. ;x

        The passive traits don't stack..

        so bonuses from DRK:
        -1 Physical ATK up Trait
-a 5% per hit HP added to your damage Soul Eater
-Very weak spells due to lack of skills, and virtually no MP to use 'em
        -weapon bash
-last resort (weak, very short berserk)

As War is primarily a tank/damage dealer hybrid, this isn't too good.

I'd say Focus,Boost and Counter from MNK, as well as the increased HP pool are more useful.

Or, if your main role will be doing breaks, SAM blows both jobs away.

Why would you be a WAR/DRK when you could a be a DRK/WAR?

            TokeN:

Because you'd still get War Cry and Agressor with your main(You'd get War Cry at 70 with DRK/WAR....but having it from 35-75 is more beneficial than having it from 70-75 in my opinion.) and beacuse I like WAR more than I do DRK. (Blame the DRK's who always spammed Soul Eater at the worst times while I was white mage.)

Thanks for the info everyone. I wasn't aware passives didn't stack for melee. ; ; which really....was the reason that I thought this combo would do well...when I figured it got 3 attack passives.

oh well...was more a curious question about the combo than anything else. I'll be sticking to my mage classes anyway.
