Bone Set vs Lizard Set

Bone Set: Looks badass, can be used at lvl 16, more expensive.
Lizard Set: Looks fruity, can be used at lvl 17, slightly better DEF.

I'm currently getting the Bone set at lvl 16 cause I dont wanna look fruity and dun wanna run back to town later, or carry 5 extra items, so will I be gimped a little later on (before I get Chainmail)?

When I played as a warrior I had the bone set, I didn't notice any difference in the tanking capabilities of people with the lizard set. BUT....if the lizard armor is cheaper then go for that and use the rest of the money for chainmail/tiger stole/etc. The chainmail is expensive as hell.

I'll use whats cheaper (Lizard) and looking pretty doesn't matter at low lvls, also they both have the same def stats in total just that bone can be worn eariler than lizard.

I jes bought all the bone set last night, guess ill use it while i solo in Ghelsba to get lvl 17 (1500tnl), then trade it in for Lizard, then head back out to the Dunes.

I currently have a set of Bone armor for my lvl 18 war and I am doing just fine. I think the 3 def loss is not that much IMO. But my war is a Galka and I use food to increase my vit and def when I am tanking.

I just think the lizard helm is funny looking imo and you can still gain the 3 def if you wear the bone headgear in place of the lizard helm cuz they have the same def stat.

I think either one would be good and can help you til beetle at 21. I actually used scale +1 until lizard, ppl didn't seem to mind.

Well ima use bone while go gain 2 levels in dunes and unlock subjob, then i may sell it for lizard set and a warrior's belt while i raise MNK/WAR.

I think it's important to always buy the best armor for your level. Don't forget that when you buy expensive armor, you're not throwing away that money. Its important in this game to earn alot of money between levelling to buy gear. This necessity becomes even more apparent at higher levels, so get used to it, and start investing now .

I personally went for all lizard except the head and hands. For hands, I went with Ryl. Ftm. Gloves for the +ATK, and for the head I went with Bone Helm. Bone Helm and Lizard Helm have the same DEF, but lizard looks like a condom hat (just like the WHM AF) and I'd never wear it

Also if you have the gil, look into the "Fine" set of equipment that no one mentioned here.

Fine Jerkin, Fine Trousers, Fine Gloves, etc. Its even better than Lizard. Thats what I used.

Its also awhole lot more expensive and won't be used for more than a few days... I can see buying +1 gear and stuff at higher lvls, when its much harder to lvl, but not when i can get one in a couple hours.

Not only that, but if you're going to buy HQ anything, don't do it for a measly +1 DEF. Consider something like Spike Necklace--the STR+1 and DEX+1 from it (over Fang Necklace) means a lot when both of those attributes are under 30. If I'd chosen to spend that money on a Fine Jerkin, I'd have 107 DEF instead of 106--whoopee.

Short answer: Wait til Beetle-Chainmail. The DEF isn't that much better on the Lizzard stuff-- at those low levels, you could have a THF/RDM tank.

I like to be up to date on my gear. I went Leather > Scale > Lizard > Beetle > Chain

Now, I normally go for the best looking gear, it's pretty much all about the look, and the Lizard set makes you look like a doofus...lol, I didn't go bone, cause I thought the subligar showed the legs...

hmm, i actually liked the lizard set minus the helm. The bone (or most all harnesses for that matter) made my char look like he had an SM/bondage fetish.
