  • war boring?

this post is mostly for those lvl'ing war to 30 to get advanced jobs. anyway, when lvl'ing war to 30, subbing monk, i noticed something war was really boring. i just wanted to hit 30 then go nin or pld. after playing pld for a while (lvl 41) i thought it was time to try nin. i lvl'd nin for a little bit and then started trying to decide which job i'm going to play for the long haul. somewhere along the line i was thinking about war/nin. i remembered how boring war/mnk was but started thinking, as war/mnk i didnt have a single monk ability that i actually used. i mean counter attack is great but it activated automatically, its not some cool ability you use. so few abilities makes for a boring fight. i realized though that by subbing nin i can no make things interesting by using ninjitsu's and looking much cooler by duel wielding and not just that duel wielding is cool but duel wielding with double strike.

i think war tends to be looked down upon because some many people just use it to open advanced jobs and dont realize it becomes much better when subbing advanced jobs like sam or nin. so, i think i'm going to get my nin to 37 and start playing war again, i dont know whether i'll learn utsusemi ni once i get to 37 or save it til my war is 74 because who know's if i'll even play war that long.

Yes dude. I'm going war/nin myself. I played paladin to 54 and it just got too boring for me(hitting a monster for 0 dmg gets to you...). Anyways duel wielding appeals to me and have ninjitsu also does so yea man, rock on.

You should have had Boost as a monk sub at least. It's almost as good as provoke for holding hate on you... you can get 2 boosts off between provokes. Also if you levelled monk to 15, at 30 you'd have Dodge (Evasion up ability), not to mention Max HP Boost trait.

yes, i realize you have boost and yes i used it...but, its boost...WHOOPEE LET THE GOOD TIME ROLL!! thats like having my pld say using sentinel is fun. and about dodge, you get that at 15, if you are playing war til 30 you will never use it since you dont lvl once you hit 30, you just get there.

I know WAR received a very, VERY VERY bad reputation when the NA PC version launched last November.

*Everybody* and their kid sister was going WAR. That means there was a ludicrously high supply of WARs, and consquently, a very VERY difficult time finding parties.

WARs were, quite literally, a dime a dozen.

So when all these NA WARs hit 30, they were relieved to ditch the job that gave them such horrible nightmares sitting in Valkurm and Quifim LFG. I wouldn't be surprised if some people originally intended to take WAR all the way switched to advanced jobs because of this bad experience.

I see NA PLDs, DRKs, DRGs, RNG, NIN, RDM, WHM, BLM, heck, even at least one SMN in full AF. I have yet to see a NA WAR in even partial AF. High level NA MNKs are up there in rarity too, it seems. I know MNKs had a hellish time back in late 2003 LFG as well; MNKs were probably the second most numerous job amongst NAs right after WAR.

However, the situation has gotten a lot better. Going through Valkurm and Quifim again recently, I experienced something that would have been unheard of a few months back - a shortage of warriors!

Now, the question is if history will repeat itself, and all the new NA PS2 players will go WAR. If so, the supply of warriors will skyrocket once more, and with it, the demand for warriors (and low level PLDs too, I would assume) will plummet to bottom.

Or maybe it's because WAR AF is ass-ugly. :p
Retired for good this time; been a fun ride everybody.
