  • WAR/MNK vs. WAR/SAM as end game combo

Right now i love war/monk im a great tank, only lose hate in bad situations,do good damagehave counter for that occassional extra damage (counter double attack counter makes me feel special when it goes off )dodge is nice and focus/ aggressor will be a good combo when i get it. And boost rocks and gives me something to do between fights.

Yet all I hear is Sam is the best end game sub for a warrior and thats what ive seen as well. Why? Meditate vs All i just listed doesnt seem that good of a deal.Would no one want a WAR/Monk late game? Discuss Please

-on a side note anyone else think warcry should be stronger? 3 minute wait or a large attack boost. Something. It is a good hate gain though

Cause you won't be tanking much end-game.
    WHM 75 | BLM 37 | RDM 63 | WAR 75 | MNK 44 | NIN 37 | RNG 20
    Windurst Rank 10 | Bastok Rank 10 | Sandoria Rank 3
No more permanent stats on "In areas outside own nation's control" items.
    Combat Caster's Boomberang +1 | Master Caster's Bracelets
    Sandoria is gay.

I'm a warrior and I kill stuff! RAWR!

The best defensive sub for endgame WAR is NIN because of Utsusemi Ichi and Ni. It's just too good to pass up. The full power of NIN comes into play at lvl 74(Blink2) tho so MNK sub will do great all the way to 75. SAM is also good for tanking because keeping hate through all the extra TP you get is pretty easy. The Meditate ability itself creates some hate and Third Eye(blocks next hit) is a useful ability. I have it macroed along with provoke so i always use it once it's up(1 min timer). SAM is the sub I used on my way to 75 and I was main tank of my set PT.

Obviously SAM is the best offensive sub if you're using great axe, but NIN is just as good if you're planning on using dual axes since you get an extra hit in WS which means more TP return and damage. The reduced overall weapon delay with Dual Wield is also nice. You get two dual wield passives with the current lvl cap. The lvl 10 and 25 ones.

As for which is the best overall I have to go with NIN. You can't deny the incredible usefulness of Utsusemi, Tonko(invisible) and Dual Wield. I find myself using 1h Axe more than GAxe because you can setup 2-step Light renkeis(Decimation > Shark Bite for example) with 1h Axe so dual wielding axes appeals a lot to me. Besides, the dual wield pose looks badass.

I can see how ninja would be fun and useful but isnt our real job at very high levels to break stuff? That what i was alway lead to believe. And if thats true who would invite a WAR/NIN with no G. Axe

You would probably be using /sam more than /mnk. If you do happen to be tanking /nin and/mnk are both fine choices. /nin is slightly better tho.

Breaks are useful, but if you have a BRD(Madrigal) and good ACC gear they're not needed at all. Sure they help a bit in addition to Madrigal, but you would be better off using that TP to deal extra damage. Lucky me I always had a BRD in my set PT.

And using great axe with NIN isn't a total waste, you still get the best part which is blink. Even if you're not main tank it's great when you're doing stuff like setting up Fuidama so you don't get hurt while THF is doing his thing behind main tank. It can save your ass if you have Berserk up too.

As a WAR the best thing you can do is to be ready for any situation. This means having both axe types capped or near it to achieve maximum renkei potential. Also you need to have a couple of subjobs ready to adapt better to the current situation. I have 38 SAM and 30 MNK plus I'm currently working on NIN. But if you ask me for exp purposes SAM is overall the most useful.

For endgame utility I'll stick with NIN tho. I end up tanking a lot tho so I'm a bit biased.

keep your mnk sub until lvl 60. The most painful stuff for playing war is you had to keep change your sub at certain range of lvl.

and sam sub will only do good after your main lvl 60 for meditate.

                mnk sub = get hate
sam sub = you will most likely able to do twice ws in a fight
later on.... will require nin sub

you will find that war life will always waste on lvling sub
                ?

Monk is not the only option to 60. Thief wants to be loved too.

Yeah mnk > thf in tanking. But thf > mnk when you arent tanking.
