I am a WAR heading for DRG. I love polearm and skil chains are easy, they do much more damage than my crappy sword and I ahrdly miss. However people in these formus say use Axes. I just dont like them , i prefer pole and I hardly miss either and its strong. Does it really matter what I use? No one in-game has ever complained, if not compelmented.

At your level it doesnt really matter. You probably may never touch WAR after 30 so use polearm if you wish. Personally I hated Gaxes when i first started. Then i used it and with shield break the PT was grateful for actually landing hits. The PT was 15% faster. ITs not such a big difference but it is a difference.

spears are sweet. no doubt about that. but if you train it up now, what does your DRG have to look forward to when you lvl him?
If you don't plan on making a career of WAR, you can probably skip G Axe. It'll still be a good idea to lvl 1H Axe though cause that's the WAR's rank A weapon. The damage is comparable to spear (little less) and much better than 1H sword.

I agree with the above posters, if you're only going to 30 or even 40, you'll be fine with spear with little difference.ANYWAY BIG BEN THINK LIKE THIS ITS LIKE HEY GUYS WHY BE RACIST?? RACISM HURTS EVERYBODY ON INSIDE MAKE BIG BEN SADFACE ITS ALL ABOUT SKILLS CUZ WHEN BIG BEN HAD TO WORK ON FARM AS CHILD BEN HAD TO MAKE FARMING PT MADE OF ASIAN MAN BLACK MAN(THATS ME) MEXICAN MAN CHECHOSLOVAKIAN MAN AND IT WAS BEST FARMING PT EVER CAUSE ALL MEN HAD HQ SHOVELS AND TRACTORS AND KNOW HOW TO PLAY SO FARMING WAS QUITE GOOD

I agree with you all. I love the spear myself, I couldn't see myself using an unwieldy Great Axe. I bought one played for a few minutes and then immediately sold it and got a spear. I'm planning to be a Drg, but that's beside the point, I juts love polearms. If someone complains about it when you're on FFXI, don't worry about it. I play more for fun than just leveling all the time.
So, I don't party with people that complain that I should use a greataxe. I am lvling my axe though. And club too, just becuase when you hit a monster it makes a satisfying thunk sound. Hehe.
neighbortaru has a point, you won't have any challenge leveling your spear, becuase you won't have to. Until you get passed what level you were as a War. But, the weaponskills are capped at a certain level for each level your Drg levels.
Anyway, just do whatever you want, as long as you have fun, who cares? Just my two cents ^_^Peace is a dream flying on gossamer wings. You can surely attain peace. But, the only way is through the grave.

I am doing the same thing you are Aries, I like the spear but the rogue with a sword is out damaging me so just last night I started working on my AXE skill. I also love the polearms but for right now its a bit slow for me.
A question though.. Where can I find a chart for Class weap Ranks? I know rogues are best with daggers and DRG are best with polearm... And what is the difference with rank; damage, accuracy?
Anyway, I'de keep with the spear if that is what you like. Its all about having fun. Sometimes I read these forums and see that people are too concerned with end game stats and how to make the ubertoon. Personally, I might go for a Drg/Nin and dual wield 1h axes (cuz you cant dual wield a lance), just to see what people sayIf this dont make your booty move, your booty must be dead!

As a LV32 WAR/MNK, I loved my LV30 Royal Squire's Halberd. It looked awesome and did very nice damage. Can't beat Double Thrust. It's a 2-hit WS so you get back some decent TP from using it, and it does great damage. Thunder Thrust and Raiden Thrust just don't do much damage unless the mob is weak to those elements (thunder, light).Kurgan @ Ramuh
