  • War/Mnk post 30

I've had a rough time getting into parties pre 30, and I want to know if a 32/16 war/mnk is actually desired post 30. I can tank very well and use a great axe to hold aggro/deal damage. Pre 30 was absolute hell because everyone who wanted to get up to 30 to be a dragoon, drk, etc had a war to level them up. Just wanted to see if (hopefully) pure warriors are liked in the higher levels.

    Thanks in advance!

Solid tanks become very rare 30+ as like you said, most become Sam's,Drg's,Drk's etc... I gave up my Drk simply for the fact of having waaaaay too many other dmg dealer's around. IT was becoming ever so difficult to find a pt. I'm now leveling up my War/mnk and I can't run around without a group asking for me to join as tank.

My playing partner also switched from Drg to Bard, and now we basically get people lining up to join us.

Warriors are below Pld's and Blink Ninja's for tanking, but noone else. Plus their versatility is what makes me take Warrior over a Pld. I may not beable to tank as well as a Pld, but I can still crank out some descent dmg. Granted not as much as my drk or a blm/rng, but good enough that no group turns me down when they need a dmg dealer.

Plus the ONE major advantage I like about warrior is diversity. Because Warrior is such a solid class by itself, you can basically have any sub you want. Unlike pld and Ninja of whom almost Have to sub warrior for provoke, I can sub nin/mnk/sam to my warrior and it won't weight me down at all.

I chose monk as a sub for a couple reasons, one so I have two methods of boost my defence *Dodge and Defender*, 2nd counter, and third, 2 methods of increasing my accuracy by level 50 *Aggressor and Focus*. Plus I enjoy using h2h once in awhile, although I usually stick with my axes.

However to answer your question yes, solid tanks seem to become rare after level 30 and so hence you should find your time finding a group become more enjoyable.

That's exactly what i wanted to hear

Do you use both 1h axe and great axe? or just concentrate on one?

I agree that post 30, and especially post 40, finding a good tank becomes a good deal harder to do. I've spent a lot of time sitting in Jeuno waiting for the group to find a tank. So many warriors became one of the damage dealing jobs that there are only so many warriors and paladins to go around.

There is a 48 Warrior on Fairy running around with only a level 8 Monk subjob because he keeps getting groups and doesn't feel the need to level his sub. Its a shame really, but people get so desperate for a tank sometimes they'll take someone like that.

Yes I use both. It really depends what we are fighting and who is in the group. Although shield is a nice little defence boost *not as much as pld/drk shields though*, sometimes the little extra dmg of using a Greataxe and its extra aggro control is worth the little loss of defence.

Quite often what I find myself doing is using Greataxe with defender, and then dodge in Defender's downtime.

If the monster hits exceptionally hard though, I'll use shield and have my bard friend use a defence up song.
