Mini Subjob...

Soon, I will hopefully get my sub job quest done... (If I can find a freakin skull in dunes... *ahem*) Anyhow when I was playing I was with a char who was lvl 17 war but had a lvl 5 monk sub... I thought to myself; Thats a great idea, you get some of the stat bonuses and get Boost... Anyhow I am trying to do the Lvl 30 rush to get Paly and was wondering if Having the little lvl5 sub would help me to get to 30 or am I just wasting my time?

I asked a similar question in the Paladin forum, and the advice I was given was to level up monk to 15 or so, and take that as your subjob up to 30. Reason being it will make you a bit more powerful, and it will be difficult to find a PT in your 20s as a single class warrior.

Take it for what it's worth, I have no first hand exp just yet with it.

I used to sub MNK and I decided to level up WHM and sub it, so now Im WAR/WHM. Its a very nice combo at this level but I wouldn't use this past lv 29. The reason is because before level 30, theres not many that are very usefull. You see, subbing MNK over WHM only give me 30 HP and some shitty abilities like Boost and Counter which seems nice but hardly ever work. Theres also theif but since Im an Elvaan and I have the worst DEX, Sneak attack damage is also low and you cannot use this when tanking. I wouldn't use the WAR/WHM combo past lv 29 like I said but before that, I find that being able to heal is very nice for two purpose. First, healing give you alot of hate so its really nice when tanking, monster aggro will stick on you like glue. Its also nice because I can use it when Im not tanking, healing my teamates. It help much more than Sneak attack, Boost and Counter. Im also Elvaan so my high MND give me a huge advantage when it come to using White Magic because its power is based on that stat. Now like I said, this combo is not good past level 30 but before that, I think its great and alot of warrior are not doing this because of what random joe at GameFaqs says about subbing warrior job with mage job.

One last thing. You shouldn't sub a job because of its stats, mostly for the abilities it gives you since stats are only 50% of what the subjob really has. If you have a lv10 MNK, you take his stats and you divide them in half. While abilities power stay 100%. On a sidenote, lv 22 WAR/WHM give me 56MP with mp boosting equipment, allowing me to heal for 210 HP total, I think that this really make up for the 30HP I lose from not subbing MNK :D

you never want to sub a mage for a melee unless yoru soloing for two reasons:

1) why the hell would you take time away from attacking just to cast a crappy cure or cure2?

2) why the hell would your party want you to take time away from attacking just to cast a crappy cure or cure2?

EDIT: by the time your 20, if you take time to cure yoruself, you will almost always lose more than the health you regained from the cure. So happy curing and don't screw up
